Covid impacts on membership and activity rates?

Any guesses about the impacts of the coronavirus lockdown on LDS membership and activity rates? We often hear that people turn to religion in times of trouble (“there are no atheists in foxholes”) but, with coronavirus, I’ve heard the concern that some people won’t return to their previous levels of church activity, even after things get back to normal.

It certainly could be a sifting.

Our ward is split into two groups, we have about 150 ish people. On Sunday we have about 30 people in person with about 46 watching on zoom, so I don't know what the other week is like. I suspect we may lose some but time will tell I guess

I think the days when most people resorted to religious faith in a crisis are gone. I think fewer members will come back. Mostly social Mormons will not see the need to return. It’s easy to get out of the habit. Just my opinion.

Can I apply for the ward greater position?  I have an engaging smile and a warm demeanor, and I am very well acquainted with the ward foyer, as I spend most of Sunday school there.

I was going to say, "can I trade with Bill?"

How do you measure "activity rates" when church is shut down and you can't do your calling?

Elon Musk tweeted this:

Something extremely bogus is going on. Was tested for covid four times today. Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse. Rapid antigen test from BD.

I'm starting to really distrust the dang covid tests. What to do, what to do.

Dang, would it kill 'ya to link to the actual tweet, rather than some unformatted weirdly-boxed text of dubious parentage?  Here - allow me:

That's worrisome, if it's indeed true.  The FDA has this to say: https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/letters-health-care-providers/potential-false-positive-results-antigen-tests-rapid-detection-sars-cov-2-letter-clinical-laboratory

Antigen tests are notably unreliable. Elon Musk is wrong to say there is something “bogus” going on though. We know the problem. He is an engineer. In that situation different results like that would be unacceptable. When dealing with biology....medicine is not an exact science.

At least not yet. I remember an old commercial for Star Trek reruns that talked about the future being filled with heroism and adventure with clips showing that and ending with “and where medicine is an exact science” and they play multiple clips of Bones saying “He’s dead Jim.”

Whatever does not make a difference within an operating system has become irrelevant. And for some that is what happened after nearly a year of inactivity. Just about all the recent converts in my ward have faded away without support and fellowship.
