Calm Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) I would have funeral limited to close family and friends. And then an online memorial service. Edited March 15, 2020 by Calm 2
Rain Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 I have heard of facebook streaming or something like that a couple of months ago where one of the close relatives couldn't travel the distance to the funeral. 1

We will see what happens. The number of people that would come would fill the entire stake center.
Bernard Gui Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Our state has closed all schools, but our district is thinking about offering day care in the empty schools for kids with two working parents.

Though some stores offer deliver now. One of the younger guys at our church posted an offer, free of charge, on our ward Facebook page. He will pick up groceries or take-out for any of the older folks that need it. I thought it was a very sweet gesture:) 2

Are you trying to say that God doesn't want students graduating in "the robes of a false priesthood"? Is Hugh Nibley participating in the Divine Council now?

I work for a city in Oregon and we are in the process of getting everyone ready for working from home, if they can perform their duties remotely. I work on a floor of a building with 100+ people in an open environment. Computer work, mostly, so at least I'll be able to do most of my work from home if and when I need to. I would rather not though unless there is no other workable option. Oregon is not Utah. The restrictions vary by state, as well as the decision to have sacrament or not. The restrictions are very much higher in California.

It might be tough for a bit but we need to slow this down. Italian doctors have said don't wait until it is too late. We are about where China was mid January...it exploded and now is receding. Italy got hit mid February. No disagreement, but the principle is still valid. I note that it does seem like church leaders are asking the Saints to follow what the government is saying to do -- and in the UK this means to follow what Boris Johnson and his administration says. I do note that in our recent stake presidency and stake council meetings our local leaders are talking about conforming to what the Johnson administration is saying, as well as what the church is saying to do - these are not mutually exclusive measures by the way. And there are times when it doesn't matter how severe one treats an issue concerning public health. Things will go the way they go. You just do the best you can. Edited March 18, 2020 by Stargazer
Calm Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 An interesting to me and informative article on laws that could and should be applied in a health crisis. Stays away from making obvious political statements for the most part. If you feel like responding in a political way, please don't. I just thought it would be useful for an informed opinion on what could be done, don't want to break board rules. https://lawandcrime.com/opinion/the-trump-admin-should-be-talking-loudly-about-these-health-laws-right-now/ A taste... Quote This law requires cooperation between the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secreatries of Veterans Affairs, Transportation, Defense, Homeland Security, and other federal agencies. It puts HHS “in control of emergency public health and medical response assets” in a “public health emergency.” It requires a National Health Security Strategy, which is a “plan for public health emergency preparedness and response.” It requires a plan for an adequately-trained “effective and prepared public health workforce.” It requires studying “surge capacity,” and it authorizes the acquisition and operation of “mobile medical assets.” Or two... Quote This law requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to coordinate with the Homeland Security Secretary and other officials to “maintain a stockpile or stockpiles of drugs, vaccines and other biological products, medical devices, and other supplies in such numbers, types, and amounts … to be appropriate and practicable … to provide for and optimize the emergency health security of the United States, including the emergency health security of children and other vulnerable populations, in the event of a bioterrorist attack or other public health emergency.” The law, which is lengthy, contains clear procedures for emergency procurement and replenishiment of these supplies.
Tacenda Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 I'm watching the press conference right now, I wish Pres. Trump wouldn't call it the Chinese virus, but he does seem to handle the back and forth with the press pretty well. I'm sure this isn't what he was expecting when taking the helm. Yesterday I went and got take-out at a favorite restaurant, just to get out and feel somewhat normal. In my mind I talked myself into feeling like it's all going to be okay. And today I'm not so sure again. Hoping these feelings don't last.

He just dissembled about how quickly this will get better and went on about his quick reaction to the crisis and how it was widely admired. Spoilers: It was neither quick or widely admired.

Though I agree about the Chinese virus stuff. That's just dumb.
