Church in Utah is effectively cancelled. Will post a link when I find it. I work for a city in Oregon and we are in the process of getting everyone ready for working from home, if they can perform their duties remotely. I work on a floor of a building with 100+ people in an open environment. Computer work, mostly, so at least I'll be able to do most of my work from home if and when I need to. I would rather not though unless there is no other workable option. 1

Meanwhile , 300 people go to Costco to store up on toilet paper. 3

I hate to say it, but this seems more like a "I don't want to be know as the governor who..." kind of move rather than a rational decision. It's one thing to be proactive. It's another to go overboard. Unless there is more to it than the WHO or the CDC are telling us.

I came home with three tubs of Blue Bell ice cream yesterday, along with a handful of Kit Kat bars just to be safe. I told my wife that it looked like they were running out, and I wouldn't want to end up quarantined without the essentials. She didn't think it was nearly as funny as I did. 6

I'm wondering how this will play out and what will happen next. If 100 people is the limit for ward Sacrament meetings in the chapels then as soon as that number is reached then anyone else who came for the meeting would be told, politely I'm sure: Sorry, but we have reached our maximum occupancy in here. Please go down to Relief Society room and you will be served the symbols of sacrament there and you will be able to hear what is said in the chapel through the telecoms we have provided. And then once that room fills up to 100 people, if it does, others who come would be directed to yet another room. We can make this work. We have the technology. For every 4 cases reported there are probably around 30 cases unreported, because we aren't testing for mild-moderate cases (only around 15% are severe according to WHO). I don't know if you have heard the news about what this does once it gets inside nursing homes, but there doesn't need to be more than what the WHO and CDC are telling us - it is good to be proactive. we need to take every precaution to protect the vulnerable in our communities. We still have Stake Conference this weekend according to my Stake President. The quicker we cancel these events, the more effective this tool is for slowing the spread of the disease. It makes no sense to me to have church this weekend and implement this policy on Monday. Every day counts at this point! I'm very confused about the point of implementing this starting next week. 1

You too will have the same thing that is happening in other states, other countries. Slow things down by putting limits, so that you can handle it when it does hit.
Calm Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 (edited) I just got a notice our stake will be holding ours, but it will be available online for those not feeling well (or concerned, I suspect). My mother's assisted living place just canceled all visiting for meals (I have two family members who have lunch with her twice a week, it works well because some residents have trouble making small talk including my mom these days and having visitors at the table makes that easier). They were also having a meeting for residents and family members over plans for virus control, but have switched it to just residents. Visitors still welcomed. No quarantine yet, that will likely happen with first case or if it gets common enough before their first case hits. They have quarantined twice already, food isn't as appealing, but Mom seems to handle it find as staff visits several times during the day. Edited March 12, 2020 by Calm
