Are natural disasters on the rise, and a sign of the time?

It seems more and more that natural disasters are on the rise, or maybe it is the 24 news cycle that just may iseem so. Some of the worst hurricanes ever are causing horrible consequences. Even now there are people (members of our Church and others) who are without power in Puerto Rico (I hope I spelled that correctly). In fact the entire Island's infrastructure was whipped out in that hurricane,  Orher natural disasters where the seas and oceans are (due to under water earthquakes) are killing thousands at a time, sorry I could not spell the term for that in a thousand years. The worst of them killed, I believe nearly 20,000 people in Indonesia , if memory serves. President Hinckley spoke of it in General Conference, citing scripture, but was carefulb not to say it was  to say it was a sign of the times, BTW,  I miss him so much. Even now, one of the worst hurricanes is about to hit the to hit the "Pan Handel" if Florida, in decades, and lower Georgia, my State. .

Are these the sings on the times of coming Christ, do they, or are they ushering in the (again) coming of Christ, as more the Nations are threatening the destruction of Israel? Not to mention that most of the members of the UN, vote on resolutions (continually) , that Israel is a terrorist State, only the the U. S., Great Britain and maybe a handful of others, vote against this. That is not conjecture, as Israel is surrounded by Nations who want and threaten, often,  them of destruction. In fact, there stated goal is to drive every man, woman and child into the sea. Their closet neighbor, often writes on their wall, "we will knock on the walls of heaven with the skulls  of the Jews". Now Styria, is threatening war, their "Civil War",  must being going bad,  as nothing uniits the rest of the Middle East, like their hated of the Jews. Oh, I forgot, Iran has also threaded to attack Israel, amid their own unrest, thankfully the many protests are against these threats, saying they want a democratic gov't and to live in peace with Israe,  despite many being murdered . Also  Russia is  offering assistant.and all of  this is foretold in scripture , and saying this will happen before , or the sign of coming of Christ. I do not fear the.coming of Christ, in fact I welcome it. But I do wish your comments.

As always, please for give any misspelling, errors in grammar, and punctuation.

No because you are no longer a believer? Or just no?

The number of hurricanes has risen and fallen over the past decades but we are in the last days.
The past 170 years is just a blink of time to God so we have not recorded enough hurricanes to really notice a difference since the scriptures were written.
They are nevertheless signs of the times, we just don't know how often they happened back then compared to now.

There has been an increase in hurricane intensity due to the slow warming of the oceans (oversimplified: warm water is what powers a hurricane). If the oceans continue to warm even by a few degrees we can expect, on average, more powerful tropical storms and hurricanes.

I have some relatives who are not LDS that do quite a lot of research on Israel -

some of their stuff: http://www.biblestudents.com/IsraelProphecy.html

Global warming definitely contributes to the number of weather-based disasters. But it's within our power yet (maybe) to reverse that.

I do think that the never ending news cycle makes it seem like there is a lot of hurricanes compared to earlier decades, but i don't think the evidence really supports it. The last two hurricanes that hit the U.S. were also termed "the worst hurricanes in decades".....just like this one. They are natural phenomenon that have been hitting the U.S. since the beginning. Placing blame for a hurricane on a slight increase in CO2 is purely political.

Turn that graph sideways and you will notice that there seems to be a cyclical pattern. This holds for hurricanes and earthquakes.

That chart is cyclical, but the cycles seem to be increasing as a whole. While the lows go back and forth, the highs rise each time.

I first saw this post in the '80's, before computers.  We were also seeing the illuminati in the trilateral commission.  The end was near.  New ice age.

I next saw this post in the '90's, when the USSR fell and everyone was telling me the commies were moving into the UN and the environmental movement.  The end was near.  Global Warming.

Then I saw it in the '00's, when everyone just pretended they weren't as worked up about Y2K as they were, and Obama made it impossible for me to buy 9mm ammo at Walmart.  The end was near.  Human-caused climate change.

Now it's the '10's, and we might as well be blaming the hurricanes on all of Trump's spurned women or whatever.  The end is near.  All news is lies - as everything is both hotter and colder and more severe and not enough all at the same time.

Just one of a bunch of sites about US hurricanes. Note how many of the worst ones happened before 1950 . There is a tendency today in the media to hype any hurricane as the 'worst' in order to fill the ' global warming ' narrative. Even Wikipedia will show that there have been worse storms and worse years than now. One year had 7 major storms hit the US. Guess when ??

I'd like it to be the case that we could control the weather -- I remember sciency films for the classroom back when I was in middle school that predicted this.  What I recall was the prediction that oncoming hurricanes would be made more mild by launch missiles containing chemical substances into them.  At the time I thought that was plausible, but I'm pretty sure now that this is not how it would work.

I'm also pretty sure we're not going to be able to do nothing to influence global warming, either.

In a word, No.

Look at the list of the ten deadliest natural disasters: Ten deadliest natural disasters.  The worst ones happened rather distantly in the past -- there have been fewer recently.

Then think of the human-caused disasters.  We think that WW2 killed a lot of people, and everyone knows about it now, but in the 1600s the Qing conquest of China killed 25,000,000 people!  Which is comparatively worse, since that represented a significantly higher fraction of humans living at the time, but outside of China few people knew about it.

But at the time of the prophecies referenced, news of far-off lands and their disasters was slow to travel, and never made it further than a few hundred miles in most cases.  In this time of instant communications, however, if a bus runs off a cliff in Southeast Asia and kills 50 people, it's worldwide news in just a few hours.  In 1931 one to four million people died in floods in China, but that news didn't get reported very widely in the West.

What is different is that we are hearing more about all these things.  "Wars and rumors of wars".  I think the ubiquity of news of these things is the fulfillment of prophecy, not necessarily the absolute number of disastrous events.

In all the ways. Every way. The most important ways. The bigliest and the smalliest ways.  Let's not make the thread about science vs anti-science though.

We don't need to make this as "science vs anti-science" (especially since I am far and away not anti-science), but if you're going to make a remark like it's "You vs Science", and then when I ask "in what way" you give me "Every way" --- you're just being mean.

All I said was (paraphrasing myself) "I don't think we're going to get weather control very soon, and I doubt that we're going to get a significant handle on global warming."  Those are opinions based on what I have seen, not some anti-science screed.  I'd like to know how you feel that that is anti-science.  If I said I don't think we're going to get flying cars very soon, would you characterize that as anti-technology?

Or did you read what I wrote not very carefully and misunderstand what I was saying?
