What is the most difficult thing about being Mormon?

Most difficult thing for me back in the day was when I "graduated" from the "Young Single Adult" to the "Single Adult" program.  I've heard hell described by some LDS as eternal life without the possibility of progression.  I don't know if that would be the consensus view, but to me the SA program felt like early start.

Harsh but fair.

We half-jokingly suggested to Priesthood leaders in my stake that we should send those with struggling marriages to visit a SA activity so they know what they are prepping for. Hopefully scare them into making it work. ;)

The hardest thing about any religion - faith.

Second hardest - dealing with the same old anti-complaints and the liberals who feel offended.

The conservatives that are offensive. :P

Depends.

When I was a teen I would probably have said early-morning seminary. ;) More seriously I would have said anything to do with eternal families.

Now, I'm trying to define hard. The LoC has had it's moments for me, even though fundamentally I very much agree with it.  I also find it hard at times to decide if something I decide for myself is me justifying behaviors, me not convinced by common understandings, or me feeling guided by God. Usually it feels more like the last 2. I don't lie to myself too often that I'm aware of.

Oh, I guess it's sometimes hard when some of my beliefs or opinions diverge. But I'm used to not fitting entirely in any circle I meander into, so I don't think that's hard. Unless someone  is saying something super off the wall. Or mistaking political views as gospel truth. That's annoying....but annoying isn't necessarily hard.

I think it's hard at times with others misconceptions about me based on mormon stereotypes. Or having people rattle complaints about the mormons (rigid, cliquish, backwards, naiive, judgmental, ignorant, etc). when I am one and a believing one. I've got the practiced tight smile going for that followed by gentle prods. I usually get the comment that I somehow don't count because I'm different. That's annoying.

It's definitely painful to see others I'm close to, take paths that often limits the conversation about the things I hold dearest. I don't really get the idea of cutting off though just because of belief changes (intentionally or unintentionally). I just wish I could share the things I love more fully.

Sometimes it's hard to listen to God. I have had many a wrestle with Him, but I don't know if that's mormon specific.

But honestly, I'm still scratching my head. Most of the things I find "hard" Just don't outweigh the many positive experiences I've had being mormon. Even early morning seminary.

With luv,

I have at certain times felt hurt by the church or its leaders, or have seen people close to me be hurt. That has been the hardest thing for me. The Gospel is perfect, but we do not always follow it completely.

There are other things that are hard for me: feeling like I don't have enough faith, that I don't fit in, etc. But I think that ultimately it is a choice to either accept the Gospel or not, and that I am going to have personal problems to work through whether I'm a Mormon or not.

You sound just fine to me.

Excuse me!!!!  Did you, Cal, actually just make a pun??!!!  :P

I am in the 9th month of a busted tailbone...the pews are what do me in every time even with my gel pad.

But yeah, I will admit it.  I gave into the dark side.

YIKES!  Sorry, I probably should have known that.  I hope you heal up soon, Cal.

By the way, I'm putting everyone out of their collective misery and letting the Pun thread die.

The crushing boredom of the three-hour block?

Keeping your mouth shut so you don't go off-manual into more interesting doctrines.

But how else could I have learned last Sunday that the spirit world is here with us, just in a different dimension?

Sounds like a great lesson.
What did you learn the week before?

Is that akin to how the Nehor is here with us, just in a different dimension?

But in answer to the OP, I find that I am the biggest problem with being a Mormon. My own stubborn, hard headed nature too often conflicts with the way I sgould be thinking about things and doing things.

I don't think it's hard to live Mormonism, when you are on the fence. ;)

Have you ever sat on a fence? If not, give it a try and let us know how it feels! It is not easy being on the fence. :hi:

The difficult part of mormonism is the feeling that one is a salmon contantly swimming up stream. Also, the negativity of critics and exmembers do not help. Not easy to escape the bear's mouth.

It's not hard when you don't have to cross all the t's and dot all the i's to feel worthy. Anyway, the fence is hard too, don't get me wrong. But the pressure is relieved somewhat, I guess I was too hard on myself before.

The last 15 minutes on a hard (even if cushioned) bench...is a bummer....(no pun intended):P

If dealing with three hours of boredom, even extreme boredom, once a week is the most difficult aspect of being a Mormon for you, I hope you feel very grateful for that.

The thing that was the hardest for me was being in positions where I was obligated to ask or assign people to do things they didn't want to do and realistically didn't have time to do, and then following up with a phone call or "interview" and (whether intentionally or not) guilt-tripping them if those things were not done.  I don't enjoy adding to people's burdens.

That being said, it took me several days to come up with something to post in this thread.  Imo there are far more good things than bad things that come from being an active Mormon.

You make one simple mistake in a demon binding ritual and suddenly you end up on the astral plane. Anyone know how I can get back?
