rodheadlee Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I think this post by MB is an excellent post and goes a long way towards explaining why polygamy is a part of the Celestial Kingdom, even though polygamy is not addressed directly. Polygamy is about sharing and sacrifice to further God's purpose, to increase God's glory. 3

thesometimesaint Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 We don't. It is all at Gods' command. If and when God commands me to be polygamous. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

The only modern apostle to give an opinion on the issue was Bruce R McConkie and he said it's coming back during the MIllennium. No prophet or apostle since has touched the subject leading many members, myself including to be confused and wonder.
RevTestament Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 VGJ I wish I could settle your heart on this matter. You simply don't need to worry about it. There is no commandment nor revelation in the standard works saying it is necessary to enter into temporal polygamy to be exalted. That is an interpretation. I understand why JS believed it was important, but it just is not necessary temporally. 1

Obviously, He can do either or both again. The matter is quite settled. It was not 'man created'. 4

The point that it increases God's glory is true which it does by having more women married to men and thence more children from each married unit but all it takes is one woman for each man to have children and there is no rush to have children with all of eternity to do it. Plus there is the matter that if there were no polygamy in heaven what are the odds that there would be exactly the same number of exalted men as women without any women left over? I am guessing God knew there would be more women than men there in the Celestial Kingdom. They would have to be sealed to someone. 1
rodheadlee Posted April 24, 2016 Author Posted April 24, 2016 A parable by rodheadlee. If a man plants 1 seed in a vineyard every year at the the end of 10 years he will have 10 plants, if he plants 5 seeds every year in his vineyard he will, at the end of 10 years, have 50 plants. Thus increasing his glory which also increases the glory of his father.

Do you think Jacob who became Israel would have had 12 sons if he only had one wife? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob If there are no current words of the prophets on a subject then we must fall back to those who spoke of it in past times. This need not become a stumbling block it will require prayer, study and patience on your part.Sometimes we don't need the answer right now, we just want it right now. For us, now in these times it is not required of us. In past times it was required for several reasons such as 1) an increase in righteous seed 2) a show of faithfulness in following God's commands. There may be more reasons but I can't think of them right now. 1

I think sacred polygamy done right, is just what you say, but in my experience no one will get that here and it will just degenerate into our usual profane polygamy threads. I just don't feel like getting into that anymore. We obviously aren't ready for it yet and so it was taken away. Think Moses and the 10 commandments. We are now living the "schoolmaster" edition right now of Exaltation 101. 2

There are reasons we don't even know much about heavenly Mother and I think this is in that category. If and when we are ready we will know what we need to know.

So the increases in that case are from the additional Celestial spouses that otherwise wouldn't be spouses if each family unit had only 1 spouse of each sex, plus the additional children from additional women. I'm sure God could foresee a Celestial Kingdom where an even number of men and women are exalted while the leftovers can fill the 2 lower levels of the Celestial Kingdom, terrestrial Kingdom, and Telestial Kingdom. I'm sure God could foresee a future where the numbers of exalted even out.

In your analogy, each wife would be a different garden, so the man would increase his glory (and his father's glory) by having more gardens, but the glory of each individual garden is the same. So polygamy would be a system to increase the glory of the men, but not the women. Edited April 24, 2016 by cinepro 1
