re polygamy

A quote from Cinepro to Rodheadlee's parable: "In your analogy, each wife would be a different garden, so the man would increase his glory (and his father's glory) by having more gardens, but the glory of each individual garden is the same.  So polygamy would be a system to increase the glory of the men, but not the women."

Whoa...

See?

There we go.  Once again cinepro protects us from having a spiritual discussion.

It's food for thought though.

Just so I'm clear, in what ways do the men specifically "share" and "sacrifice" in polygamy?

Seriously? What do you bring to your relationship with your wife? Now multiply that by 5 or whatever.# That would be 5 households to keep running and financed.Time would be the most valuable commodity sacrificed.

I have to agree with you here.  Ever watch "Sister Wives" ?  Poor Cody!  I mean Kody.  And there are rumours galore of this family not being quite what they seem on air.  I believe it's a very difficult way to spend eternity.

I hate this software. Never the less it was a simple analogy. How do you think Heavenly Mother increases her Glory?

Junk food.

But yes I know some people like or have cravings for junk food.

Well, of course He could foresee it but the odds are heavily against it happening without messing with agency.

I'd say downright impossible.

The same way Heavenly Father does - by increasing their eternal posterity and family kingdoms.

No, we don't have cable TV. But I'm doing dishes right now, between posts, it would be a long night to do 5 sets.

I agree, I wanted to hear Cinepro's answer. They would have a sisterhood among themselves and an increase in children, kingdoms and earths to nurture.

But in the Celestial Kingdom you'll have all power to deal with 5 or even hundreds of wives.

And has any apostle since Bruce R McConkie trumped what he said about polygamy coming back during the Millennium. I haven't heard any apostle or prophet since denounce his words. If you have please link it here. That would help.

If you think "power" is the way to deal with wives....yeah, about that.

By power I meant capability as an exalted being to multi task to perfection like Heavenly Father does with all His billions of children at once. He has the "power".

Sorry, I thought we were talking about polygamy in the eternal realms.

Is JLHPROF the only one here that thinks polygamy is coming back?

Probably.

When I did talk with my Bishop about polygamy he said that it's a sin and a problem to want to live polygamy. Basically it's wrong to hope to live it one day.

If your Bishop meant that wanting to do something against the will of God is a sin, then he's right.

He meant wanting something other than monogamy unless commanded by God.

Polygamy might come back in the Millennium but usually this notion comes from an interpretation of the (Isaiah 4:1-2) verses.
1. AND in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
2. In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.

However,  in the original Hebrew text, verse one in Isaiah 4 is actually placed at the end of Chapter three as seen in Joseph Smith's translation of the Bible. http://www.centerplace.org/hs/iv/iv-isa.htm
If taken in that context it doesn't seem to be talking about the Millennium, but about the women whose men have fallen in war by the sword and now they are all fighting over what few men are left.

That implies something inherently sinful in polygamy unless God makes an exception.  This puts the morals of polygamy in flux.

I don't agree.  The only sin would be in the violating the law of God.  Polygamy itself is not inherently sinful or God would never allow it.

The problem with this correct explanation is the idea that it changes the meaning of that verse.  It doesn't.
The same link you provide explains that the events starting in Chapter 2 are "The coming of Christ's kingdom".

Chapter 4 is about "The glory of Zion and Jerusalem."

My point is, this verse concerning polygamy still places the resumption of the practice after Christ's Kingdom is established and as a result of the tribulation period.  Changing which chapter it goes with doesn't remove the prophecy of the practice being resumed in the end times.

I understand, but still would not presume to base a belief of polygamy during the millennium on this one scripture. It just isn't clear enough for me.

I can think of one way it would be a problem for me... a married man with my wife still living... to be daydreaming about wanting to have another woman as my wife.

Can't you?

It's just not something I should be thinking about, unless maybe later God commanded me to take another woman as my wife.

For right now one is enough and I feel blessed to have the one that I have.
