VideoGameJunkie Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 A question I have is what are some benefits in the Celestial Kingdom of having multiple wives that you couldn't get from 1 wife in the Celestial Kingdom. What are the Celestial benefits of plural marriage in the eternities?

Shouldn't that promise apply to single men too and then the single women and men can pair off? That sounds like a more logical solution. Who's going to marry all those boys who died before they turned 8?

I think even Brian Hales has mentioned the same thing. But when you put it the way you have, it does make one wonder.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I still want someone to tell me what the benefits of having more than 1 wife in the Celestial Kingdom than having just 1 wife in the Celestial Kingdom. With that 1 wife can't you still have an eternal increase in children and world's without end to populate? What's the benefit of having more wives in heaven over having just 1? Or is there no benefit. The only reason I can think of got my polygamy thread locked and that reason is to have more female companions to have spirit children with, but that wouldn't make sense since you have eternity to have a continuation of the seeds forever with 1 companion. Again it's all about having more women to have babies with. What other need for polygamy in the afterlife is there?

Well if you're right, then the early church leaders or JS got it wrong, and thought he needed to restore the doctrine like was lived in the Bible. IMO, it doesn't need to be lived. I imagine a different heaven. And if it helps you I advise you to imagine heaven the same way, I don't think anyone really knows for sure. Or why aren't they telling us?
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 No one has yet to answer of the benefits that you can't get with monogamy in the Celestial Kingdom.
halconero Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Eternal lives, and the opportunity to enact the Plan of Salvation across times, spaces, and eternities. But that's an understanding I've come to myself, and don't hold that as authoratative. It's also another of those, along with my feelings on the mission of the Holy Ghost, that I won't elaborate on a public thread. Feel free to PM me if you want.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 All the benefits I can think of for polygamy are temporal and not eternal. What am I missing?

There's no benefit having more than 1 wife in the Celestial Kingdom gets you than having only 1 wife. What can more wives do that an exalted wife and an eternity of endless time can't do? Again it's just another partner to share intimacy with.

If this does prove to be the case, will you still find it distasteful if some men are eternally married to more than one woman? What if the main reason God has made an allowance for there to be polygyny in heaven is to make it possible for worthy women to enjoy the full blessings of a celestial glory they otherwise wouldn't be able to enjoy if only strict marital monogamy was allowed? Bobbieaware Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 You can't be serious. I think you must be joking. Perfect celestial beings who have supposedly completely overcome sin, the flesh, the devil, and the fallen nature will still be filled with childish jealousies, as if they are still just silly fallen mortals. If you're not joking, do you have any idea what it means to become spiritually perfect and holy, or do you think perfect celestial beings, like God and Christ, continue to think, feel and act as if they are still carnal sexual and devilish? 1

I can't speak for VGJ but I know I would find that distasteful. I would like to believe that God thinks more highly of worthy single women than to devise a plan where the only way they can receive a fullness of celestial glory is to become a polygamous wife for eternity. 4

Exaltation requires marriage. Period.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I think I'm against polygamy a lot because my dad has had an ongoing 7 year affair on my mom and it's ruining our family. My mom is so hurt by my dad seeing another woman while married to my mom. It causes deep hurt and I see the fruits of polygamy in it.

Both (or all) women would have to agree to the union without complaints and ideally all would love and support each other unconditionally; otherwise I can't see them all ending up in the CK together.

That's not what I heard about how Joseph Smith was hurting Emma Smith and going behind her back.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I would think modern women would find LDS men who are pro polygamy quite odd and not husband material.

My greatest challenge would be loving them all equally and wholly. You could break your heart spreading yourself out so much, methinks. And secondly, it would be a huge challenge, difficult to meet, for me to love another woman at the same time as I love my wife now. She has said that if called upon to participate, that she would steel herself to it. And I'd say that it might be easier for her to tolerate it than it would be for me to split myself into two -- which is pretty much what it would require. And to heck with the sexual part. That would be easy. It's the emotional part that would be hardest. I am not sure I could handle that. I say that because I already love two women, my departed wife and my new wife -- I love both of them, it seems, beyond my current strength to bear. I can only manage it because my Waltraut has gone on before. If I had both of them at the same time -- oh, my, gosh. What would I sacrifice? Myself. What would I share? Everything that I am. 1

Comparing the sexual infidelities and exploits of a fallen carnal man, who possesses little or no faith in Christ, with the unselfish and holy beings who live lives of perfect divine love in heaven is absurd. The reason why heavenly plural marriage seems impure and unholy to you is because you too are looking at that heavenly institution with the distorted perspective of carnal eyes.
