Scott Lloyd Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I'll only point out that it's not always an existing General Authority. Elders Bednar, Oaks and Nelson are examples. And selections are often made from former presidents of Church universities; examples are Elders Oaks, Holland, Eyring and Bednar.

Maybe from Africa (some really wonderful "salt of the earth" types) but South America has a far greater population to choose from. What if there is a candidate from the "Lost Ten Tribes" of the north? 3

It would be wonderful to see the first non-white apostle!This actually was mentioned by someone in the discussion regarding the essay on Race and the Priesthood in our ward yesterday. Someone asked when we thought there would be a black apostle and several answered that would be wonderful. I'm thinking it will be one of the current members of the First Quorum of the Seventy. Heck I don't see anything that says he can't choose an unworthy male. 1

Yes it would be great if someone of non-European descent were chosen, of course this would just perpetuate the idea that one's race is relevant to anything. I mean do we want to get into "Affirmative Action" in church?? An apostle should be chosen based on race?? (ie: "non-white") But secondarily where does the assumption that the "Lost Ten Tribes" are non- white originate?? Did I miss some memo? 6

It would be nice if it were a surprise and not one of the usual suspects, but in the end the prophet doing the calling receives the instruction as to who to call. We actually have some of those revelations on the record, although many are not.(D&C118:6, 1882 Revelation.)
