Just another example of "I don't like the rules of my Church but I still want to be a member so the rules should be changed for me."

When did we all become so entitled that we feel like rules shouldn't apply to us?

Though she mentions being a member of a non-sanctioned group called the Young Mormon Feminists,

That explains everything, including her accusation that BYU (and by that she means the Church as well intentionally or not) is "slut-shaming".

She can have all the sex she and her husband want ... after they get married. ;)

P.S.: And if she has a problem with the "no-sex-outside-of-marriage" edict in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and at BYU, there are hundreds of  and a institutions of higher learning at which she could enroll.

On the other hand: why?

My guess is that she doesn't much like living the law of chastity.

Some quotes:

I'm a sexual person. My mom found my vibrator when I was 15.

But if you want sex, or a hookup, at BYU, you can find it. I have met guys on Tinder (Yes, we use Tinder!), and since we can't have men in our dorms, we'd drive to Squaw Peak, a makeout spot, and do everything but. I would definitely be considered a slut by Mormon standards.

I'm a sexual woman and a proud feminist, and I don't feel bad about it.

I agree with JLHPROF, this annoying sense of entitlement of this generation (I am an "age-ist" also) can get over the top so easily.  This drivel about, I a a proud, sexual feminazi (I am also a sexist), I mean "feminist" is only a cover for I want it and because I want it I should have it.  She is no more a feminist than my big toe.

There are so many choices to make; if you don't want to accept the Church's stance then just go away; attend another "wholesome" university where your urges can run wild.

Why is shame such a negative thing.  I wish we had more of it in society.  I would prefer that when you dishonored your parents you felt shame; when you dishonored yourself that you felt shame; when you dishonored children that you felt shame.  I am not an advocate of shame for living a principled, disciplined lifestyle or for having healthy (sexual desires are healthy) desires.

Message to twit, "you know nothing, John Snow"; you are but a child parading in an adult body.

She can have all the sex she wants without marriage.  Just not as a member in good standing.

I wonder if she feels the chastity requirement for men should be changed too.

That was my first thought. This feminism stuff is starting to get annoying.

After this, I don't think she's going to be a BYU student for much longer.

You think maybe?  And for no apparent reason.

Why is a whole generation being maligned here because of this? The same types of complaints from the old folks complained similarly about my generation and generations before that.

She made and signed a contract with BYU. Now she wants to violate the terms of that contract, and still enjoy the benefits of that contract. She's acting like a spoiled little brat that desperately needs to grow up and smell the coffee.

I'd like to know if she was one to begin with.

And I'd like to know how she became so if she is being open about certain equipment her mom found.

But not in her BYU dorm room.

You know what's sexually repressive?  Herpes.

Byers was suspended from church for being sexually assaulted by an older Mormon missionary—a nonconsensual trauma that rendered her "unchaste" in the eyes of church elders.

This is the report from the link.

If it is true, then shame on whomever did it.

Sometimes positions that seem outlandish come from experiences that should never have happened.

The previous generation always complains about the rising generation....generally ignoring that their parenting created the rising generation and the rising generation is usually an exaggeration of whatever values they held. It is also usually the elderly looking back at their past (usually their childhood and teen years) and imagining it without the flaws they have forgotten as some kind of golden age.

I have too good of a memory to want to go back to being a child or a teenager. I am convinced I had more stress in a day back then than I do as an adult in a month.

The "Membership without Covenants", "Grace without Discipleship" and "Forgiveness without Repentance" attitude reminds me of this quote by Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

“Cheap grace means grace sold on the market like cheapjacks' wares. The sacraments, the forgiveness of sin, and the consolations of religion are thrown away at cut prices. Grace is represented as the Church's inexhaustible treasury, from which she showers blessings with generous hands, without asking questions or fixing limits. Grace without price; grace without cost! The essence of grace, we suppose, is that the account has been paid in advance; and, because it has been paid, everything can be had for nothing. Since the cost was infinite, the possibilities of using and spending it are infinite. What would grace be if it were not cheap?...

Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession, absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.

Costly grace is the treasure hidden in the field; for the sake of it a man will go and sell all that he has. It is the pearl of great price to buy which the merchant will sell all his goods. It is the kingly rule of Christ, for whose sake a man will pluck out the eye which causes him to stumble; it is the call of Jesus Christ at which the disciple leaves his nets and follows him.

Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again, the gift which must be asked for, the door at which a man must knock.

Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin, and grace because it justifies the sinner. Above all, it is costly because it cost God the life of his Son: "ye were bought at a price," and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us. Above all, it is grace because God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life, but delivered him up for us. Costly grace is the Incarnation of God.”
