Avatar4321 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I was just wondering. How was the meeting btw?
Storm Rider Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 It would be interesting to find out exactly how many of them did attend or listen. It is similar to others who are impatient for events to occur and complain about not enough meat or the mysteries and yet we cannot even magnify that which we have been given. Why would Lord gives us more? Why give anyone more until there is a demonstration of preparedness? We too quickly build the golden calf and lose focus on our first Love. 2
Buckeye Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 We will have to wait until the church auditor's report in the Saturday afternoon session to have official numbers, but prelimary reports from the newsroom are that 78% of active members who support OW also participated in women's conference. 2
Tacenda Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 http://ordainwomen.org/thank-you-president-oscarson/ Apparently they did, funny that.
mercyngrace Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Some of them posted comments and pictures on facebook showing their purple outfits as they were entering church buildings. All you have to do is view their fb page or search for hashtag #purpleforpriesthood to see what kind of participation there was. I only know a couple of the women personally and they all went. I watched in my purple pjs from my home computer. The purple, in this case, was incidental.

Were they protesting their having not personally been called to Relief Society presidencies? Or, were they protesting men not being called to Relief Society Presidencies? The notion of consistency makes it hard to know what-all authority grab they were and are advocating. Thanks, -Wade Englund-

Thanks, -Wade Englund- I'm surprised you haven't see the videos. First OW parachuted onto the roof of the conference center. Then they broke through the skylights, rappelled onto the stage, took over the podium, and sustained themselves Queens of Nauvoo. Having done that, they immediately left the conference center because, as everyone knows, they had no interested in listening to anything said there anyway. On their way out they purple-glitter-bombed a few beehives. I can't wait for the priesthood session. 10
Storm Rider Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 It is unfortunate that I have become so jaded in their tactics that I have developed a visceral reaction to their message. Even attempting to read their website is an unpleasant experience for me. I am so completely against their methods that I am incapable of listening to their voices. That old saying about "I can't hear you because your actions speak so loudly" comes to mind. When I read their site and all they could say is how gratified that one post apologized to them - it had never happened before - and some of their charitable, god-fearing sisters also had members apologize to them. Yes, these saintly sisters have been so abused by those bad ol' LDS members. Nope, it is better that I not attempt to listen to these people. It makes me want to choke things. Wear purple...really?!? Puhlezz. 1

If you're going to the priesthood session I recommend you take your seat early. You should be able to avoid OW if you're there by, say, 5:15. As for purple, I agree that it was really selfish of OW to take over that color. In my ward the chorister refuses to sing "He is Risen!" because the song mentions "the purple east." Thanks a lot OW! You ruined easter too! 1

For example, when the saints in Kirtland and Missouri were given the Book of Abraham, were they fully living all that is taught in the Book of Mormon? There might be a lot of good reasons for the Lord not revealing additional scripture or revelations like He did with the Doctrine and Covenants, but blaming the Church members is pretty weak. It also sounds like something a Protestant or Catholic would say to explain why their canon hasn't been expanded ("Why does the world need the Book of Mormon when we're not doing everything the Bible tells us to do?"). It's almost ironic to have LDS using the same explanations. And a little worrisome. Edited March 31, 2014 by cinepro 3

You ruined easter too! This can be counteracted by starting a movement of wearing purple to show you sustain the Prophet (purple-prophet…starts the same). That way either side can declare great success by pointing to all those wearing purple.

Oscarson is the runaway hit. It really gave me a needed boost after all of the negativity and made me feel part of something powerful. I do look forward to the time, and I think it will come, where women can have a conference with all women speakers as is done for men having all male speakers. 2

Popular Post MiserereNobis Posted April 1, 2014 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2014 Wear purple...really?!? Puhlezz. Man! All of Lent I've been going to Mass and seeing purple vestments, and here my traditional Catholic priest has been advocating the ordination of women to the LDS priesthood... Just wait until Passiontide, when all statues and crosses are veiled in purple! 5

It's almost ironic to have LDS using the same explanations. And a little worrisome. Just to clarify on my Catholic side of things, there are three legs of the Church: Scripture (the Bible), Tradition, and the Magisterium (ecclesiastical authority, vested in the Pope and the college of Bishops in communion with him). We have not expanded the Bible, because it is by definition canonical. Tradition passes on the truth. The Magisterium develops the doctrine in explanation to us, which could be seen in some ways as an expansion. It would be a very weak Catholic argument to say that we have the Bible as our only canonical scripture simply because we haven't lived up to what the Bible has said. Perhaps protestants make such arguments, since they do not believe in Tradition or the Magisterium, but those other two legs work really well for us Catholics and should be remembered by non-Catholics, because we are not sola scriptura, not at all Edited April 1, 2014 by MiserereNobis 1
toon Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 This can be counteracted by starting a movement of wearing purple to show you sustain the Prophet (purple-prophet…starts the same). That way either side can declare great success by pointing to all those wearing purple. When in the MTC, I once mixed colors with whites when doing laundry, hoping to have more free time on P-Day. I ended up with purple shirts and garments, at least for a week until I could bleach them back white again. Years later, I finally realize I was making a statement. 1

Not so sure about Abraham. I personally figure that if the Church is not ready for new revelation I will just have to get it on my own.

It's almost ironic to have LDS using the same explanations. And a little worrisome. It sounds like scripture- "For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have." "...And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full." "...That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day." 2

Puhlezz. This should be no surprise. They are a social action group and we have not yet seen the worst of it. They will continue to agitate and market their message in mormon imaging. However, their actions may just betray their ultimate goal and it has much more to do than females holding the priesthood. As with any social action group it is to sow contention inside the organization through propaganda and action. Whether it is wearing pants, using the color purple or any other technique to get the message across and to get the support from the exmembers and from the members. Edited April 1, 2014 by why me

Buckeye Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 How did they get this information? Ward clerks are now assigned to track all attendance by members of OW. Ask your clerk to show you in MLS next Sunday. There is now a special box marked for anyone is part of the organization. ... I hope you know I'm kidding. My point was that there is no way to answer the question in the OP. All we have is conjecture. So this is a pretty meaningless topic.
