Congrats. You do realize that whenever you say something, you get a calling, right?

I remember being in the singles ward. I was on a date and we were talking about the ward and I mentioned how i liked the fact that I could sleep in on sundays since we had afternoon church. The next sunday I was called to be the Assistant exec secretary. So no more sleeping in. I love how the Lord works sometimes.

Ward choir director. It's a new experience for me, and it's really stretching me.

I'm having fun doing stuff I didn't think I could do, like arranging music.

But parts of it I'm really struggling with, like the suspense of wondering if enough people will show up to practices for there to be a critical mass. I hate that part of it, frankly.

Never again will I be casual about ward choir participation.

So, on this fast Sunday, I made our ward choir a matter of fervent prayer and "fasting with a purpose," imploring the Lord to grant a small miracle in inspiring more people to come to our choir practice and in magnifying their skills and efforts. I did this, conscious of the fact that people may not be inclined to remain after church for choir practice on fast Sunday when they are likely very hungry.

During fast-and-testimony meeting, I bore witness of the Lord's guiding and strengthening hand, giving my recent calling as an example of being strengthened in something I had thought beyond my capability. I said we needed more choir members and suggested that, for those feeling reticent, the Lord might have blessings for them as well in magnifying their efforts to sing in the choir. I referred to the scripture that the song of the righteous is a prayer unto God and will be answered with a blessing upon their heads.

After Church, I was gratified that we had a respectable turnout for choir practice. There were a couple of new members and some folks who haven't been to choir practice in quite some time. The choir was the best it has sounded in weeks, and it strengthened my confidence in our ability to perform the selections I have chosen for the upcoming Christmas program in sacrament meeting.

I don't know what, if any, effect my appeal from the pulpit had. Some will say this is not empirical proof, either for the existence of God or for the efficacy of prayer. For me, it brought a renewal of my faith and a deepening of my gratitude to God for His tender mercies.

My current ward calling: ward "project."

This causes me to recollect that there was a "project" in the ward where I grew up. His wife was my mom's stake relief society counselor. But he never came to Church. I think he had served a mission when he was young. He had somewhat of an intellectual bent. Was a bit cynical. Would help out every once in a while for Scout campouts and things of that nature, things that didn't require a doctrinal or theological commitment.

I don't know exactly what happened, but he eventually returned to activity. In their twilight years, he and his wife served as temple ordinance workers.

GG, a couple from my Branch went every Friday also - John and Verlene Cooper. He recently passed, Oct 15. Did you know them?

It depends on the shift they were on, and I do think I remember some Coopers... I was on the mid-Morning shift, which started at 11:00 a.m. prayer mtg and ended at 5:00 PM

Hubby and I have only been a member of our ward for a couple of weeks, but at my last ward I was the RS president.

This go round I'm hoping for something along the lines of Sunday school teacher.....

I teach Sunday School to the 12-year-olds.

This almost has some humor to it.

Me? I am a lowly executive secretary.

Ward Mission Leader, & "constantly" a substitute Sunday School teacher (i like this part because whether i'm going to teach, or not, i must prepare for the class).

Just kidding with you Tacenda... in JWilliams post #25 he said that he was currently the ward "project" and you in your post #28 said that you hadn't reached that calling yet... maybe later...

GG, if they hadn't given me my current calling, I might be on that inactive (project) list looked over by the bishop.  (I had turned down a calling as a Primary teacher previous to this.)  Though I would still attend Sacrament meeting for my son and husband, and for my hold out that the church might be true.  Whoever thought to give me the calling,  was possibly inspired.

Well then, I'm glad you have the calling... I hope you won't close any doors so to speak...

I've had a choir calling for over 11 years and that has been the pain of every choir director in our ward.  I always encourage new directors to pick simple music because people come and go so much, we'll spend every rehearsal pounding out parts, which drives me nuts!  I just joined a professional choir, which is now my sanity.  :D

RCIA catechesist.  :)

I appreciate the gentle humor here, saemo. RCIA is a pretty deep commitment ... good for you! I'm a bishop (Mormon variety). These days I'm pretty short on time and so don't allow myself to get much involved with discussions here, but I check you all out every day, so watch it! :) (Smiley Face meant to discourage rejoinder citations of D&C 121:39).

Catechesists is someone who teaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are those who teach children and those who teach adults, in various scenarios. I'm on our parish RCIA team, where I teach adult coverts who are entering the RCC., preparing them for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist and what it means to live as a disciple of Christ after their entrance into the Church.

It is a deep commitment but we have a good director and strong support from our Priest and Bishop. It is rewarding and a lot of work, but we work as a good group and spread the load. It seems to be the place God wants me to be.

My brother is a bishop (Mormon variety). You have my admiration. :)

Gospel Principles teacher in the Spanish ward. :)

Núnca he tenido la oportunidad a enseñar el evangélio en español.  Me gustaría a hacerlo.  Yo era misionero ingléshablante, aúnque serví en San Diego.  (Pensé en cambiar a misionero españolhablante, pero era demasiado tarde en la misión.)

I never had the opportunity to teach the gospel in Spanish.  I would like to do so.  I was an English-speaking missionary even though I served in San Diego.  (I thought about switching over to Spanish-speaking, but it was too late in my mission.)

Good on you, Mate!   Teaching the Gospel in any language rocks!  Teaching it in Spanish would totally rock! :)

I've loved this thread... and the opportunity to see the various callings everyone has at this time.  We can serve in many callings through the years...
