What Is Your Current Calling In Your Church

Cubmaster. It's not as bad as you are imagining.

I LOVED that calling!  But it helped that I had a son in cub scouts.

When I was 13 I had a YM Leader say "If there is any justice in the universe, you will spend your entire adult life as a Young Men's Leader, to atone for what you put us through!" I have been:

Den Leader

Cubmaster

11-year-old Scoutmaster

Asst Scoutmaster

Scoutmaster

Asst Varsity Leader

Explorer and Venturing Crew Advisor

Counselor and Ward YM President

Bishopric 2nd Counselor

Stake YM 2nd Counselor

Deacon's Teacher's and Priest's Advisor

and am currently Ward Scout Committee Chairman.

I have of course had other callings, but for the most part the curse has held. Life is good!

Have you tracked down that YM leader from your past to let him know that there is, in fact, justice in the universe?

My current ward calling: ward "project."

My current calling is a Primary Worker helping a special needs boy. So far I haven't held the "project" calling. Maybe later. ;)

Elder's Quorum Instructor

Counselor in the Ward Sunday School Presidency

Cubmaster and Asst. Scoutmaster have been my favorite callings.   My favorite activity ever was when a fashion design museum in downtown Los Angeles had an exhibit of (authentic) Star Wars costumes with a life-size (but not to scale) X-wing in the lobby.  I was able to organize a great tour, ending with each Cub Scout getting to sit in the cockpit and get their picture taken.

I think you mean Brenda, perhaps confused because both of our avatars have a lot of green leaves in them?

Might as well add my own...

I'm pretty sure I'm munch-and-mingle set up or something. I asked for a very very easy calling so that I could keep up with my other one and starting grad school. They delivered.

My other calling is ordinance worker at the provo temple. I LOVE my calling and will stick with it for as long as possible. Even if it does cut out half of my Saturday.

I too loved being an ordinance worker... in the Portland OR temple... I had to give it up because of some health issues, and I miss it so very much.  But I did manage to serve every Friday for six years.

GG Story:  As most of you know, I live on the Oregon coast... the temple is about 90 miles inland.  From time to time when I was a worker, the price of gasoline here would spike to $4.00+/gal and it was verrry difficult for me even though I got decent mileage...   I was driving about 780 miles/month just to the temple. So I cut out every extra expense I could from my budget so I could continue to serve... eventually it became so difficult I was considering stopping or drastically reducing my service, which of course I didn't want to do...

So, one morning I was praying and asking Heavenly Father to help me know what else I could do... that I had done all I could, but it still wasn't enough.... it wasn't more that 20 mins after I finished my prayer that the phone rang and it was my Rel Soc president (who was also a widowed, alone woman... there were 3 of us that were temple workers) called and told me the Bishop had advised her that an anonymous donor in the ward was donating a set amount every month for each of us toward gas, and every month he would give us a new gas card.  I nearly wept because it was just enough if I continued to be careful, so that I was able to continue my weekly schedule as a worker.  Bless that dear ward member who recognized our plight and acted to help us...

Thanks for sharing ... I love hearing stories of people who are "in tune" enough to act as God's hands here on earth.  And, of course, your sacrifice to serve is worthy of many blessings.  Thank you.

I've served as a veil worker at the Seattle temple for a number of years, and we have veil assignments once per quarter. It is one of my favorite things -- actually THE favorite -- to do in the temple.

Mine is initiatories. I love initiatories. I try to ponder the words carefully each time and share a silent testimony about it as I give the blessing. It's taught me much about the spirit, various truths, etc from it and I find myself often pondering what I've learned from it that day.

But yesterday, one of my favorites was actually sitting to check that names had been properly recorded from the Name-issue booth. It's usually a pretty dry job. But something about the couples coming back from endowments, one after another just made me smile. One older couple were the oddest little pair. He was tall and well overweight. She was short and petite with a flourish of freckles. Neither were outwardly astounding...just had one of those very different looks and sizes thing going on, there youth passed them and just on the verge of starting their twilight years. But they walked down the flight, middle-aged and obviously still in love. He leaned over and kissed her cheek and her foot kicked back behind her in joy. It made me smile so hard I started chuckling for their mutual love and joy for each other. It's just a beautiful and peaceful place. There is truly no place like it on Earth.

I am the Branch Librarian.

As Garden Girl knows (she has helped me tremendously), the library was in total chaos. For some never-to-be-known reason, the Branch Presidency of the last 9 years didn't think the library was more than a repository of 11" X 17" pictures and a large closet for lost and found and *don't know what to do with it* items. It seldom was kept locked, wouldn't have mattered - everyone with a calling had a key to the door. Nothing was discarded. Filled the recycling bin twice with outdated Handbooks, lesson manuals and incomplete VCRs of the General Conferences. Not to mention the boxes of church magazines & church newsletters that had been 'donated' to the library.

I love my calling - the library is in order and little by little the members are utilizing the treasures that are there. I have an Assistant, and she is a jewel - she is just as eager about helping the members as I am. We read each weeks lessons from all of the departments (?) - Primary to PH. If we are aware of the content of the lessons, then we can suggest more than just a single picture, or VCR/DVD.

GG, a couple from my Branch went every Friday also - John and Verlene Cooper. He recently passed, Oct 15. Did you know them?

What's that supposed to mean? :)

Just kidding with you Tacenda... in JWilliams post #25 he said that he was currently the ward "project" and you in your post #28 said that you hadn't reached that calling yet... maybe later...
