VideoGameJunkie Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 I've loved this thread... and the opportunity to see the various callings everyone has at this time. We can serve in many callings through the years... GGI agree. I love hearing all the ways members can serve.
Tacenda Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 In some non LDS churches, or most I should say, people volunteer for something. Not saying this is ideal, since callings help people grow. Just wondering what calling people feel they would contribute the best to. IOW, where their talents would be used best. If someone feels like starting a thread so as to not derail that would be interesting to see, imo.
rongo Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I teach Sunday School to the 12-year-olds.Me, too. I like the freedom and autonomy of the new curriculum, while not caring for the "helps" that the curriculum provides.
Peppermint Patty Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I've actually been "callingless" for the last couple of weeks. I have an appointment with the Bishop on Sunday morning. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be back in primary.

Kenngo1969 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I've actually been "callingless" for the last couple of weeks. I have an appointment with the Bishop on Sunday morning. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be back in primary. Keep us updated! You might feel ambivalent (at best) about serving in Primary, but we need good people there, Sister Patty. If that's the call, I guarantee you your Bishopric will rise up and bless you if you say yes. (In many ways, as Primary goes, so goes the Ward.)
Tacenda Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Peppermint Patty and Kenngo, I've heard many times, that the Primary auxiliary is the most important because it is teaching at the most impressionable age. 1
cdowis Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 When the counselor in the Stake Presidency was released, he was called as the music director for the ward Primary. Now that is a great calling!
EllenMaksoud Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 My current ward calling: ward "project."You said that you were not a believer.
EllenMaksoud Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I am Humanitarian Services, and have just been called to be a Technical and Computer Services Missionary (New Calling).
Tacenda Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Ellen, a ward project to me is when in each ward they discuss the needs of members in a ward council meeting each month, newly unemployed members that need jobs, along with discussing what is going on in some of the auxiliaries. Usually the president of the RS, HP, EQ, along with the bishopric and Ward Mission Leader meet. And people that are inactive, for whatever reason are sometimes discussed and therefore they become a "project" to help get them reactivated, but the phrase "ward project" was coined by inactives I believe, when they discuss, usually on message boards like NOM, things the ward is doing, whether it is getting HT/VT'er visits by strong members, visits from the Ward Mission Leader and even the bishop sometimes. Some say the only good thing about it are the treats left on the doorstep, and sometimes the attention that comes with it, but most wish they weren't a project or on the radar to become one. I remember being in a meeting as a RS secretary for a time, the bishop or RS president wanted the whole presidency in there, and I remember the WML asked every auxillary to come up with 5 people to help reactivate, check on or see what can be done for them. I hear there is a strong push to do missionary work to reactivate members right now, beside the missionary work for non members. And distinctly remember being asked to contact one of the five to see how she was doing, but personally thought, in my TBM days even, that she'd feel like a project or felt it kind of strange for me to be calling out of the blue. So instead I asked her if she wanted some watermelon from my garden. Edited November 11, 2013 by Tacenda
Duncan Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I hope this isn't inapporpriate to share but the day before I was called to be a Ward mission leader I was siting my sisters back yard and thinking if I became the ward mission leader what would I do? Next day I got called. The only spiritual impression that I have had in terms of this calling is that I was to help with the missionaries themselves and this was all before lowering the age thing. I don't know if that has happened or not but let me tellya some missionaries need help, i.e. we have a sister missionary in our ward who cuts herself. I have come to just love all the ones who have come here to the frozen north to help us and I am just so grateful and want to help them out!!!! 1

I wonder if the message just hasn't reached the top, even if you've been told it has. I know you need advertising for the missionaries, hopefully you get some $ soon. The gal that's cutting herself might just need some vitamin D, if she's depressed. I read the other day that people that don't get enough sun, are probably deficient in that vitamin, it might make all the difference. 2
