I’ve heard that they don’t usually call a new prophet until the funeral is over for the last one. Perhaps that would cause a delay?

I could see the funeral happening relatively quickly this week, since the general authorities are gathered for conference. Will it happen? I don’t know.

With such a large personal family, there could be logistics to consider that we aren't aware of.  But it will happen as soon as it can, I would guess.

Apparently his family had been visiting with him over the last week. I think they knew time was short- so they might already be in town and had made advanced preparations.

They could be. With over 57 grand kids and great grandchildren over a hundred, it would be unusual for everyone to have been able to be there. But it’s very possible.

I want Pres Oaks called this week because I want to hear what a prophet has to say next week.

I'm in no hurry for Pres Oaks to be called because the mantle changes leaders and that's who I want to hear from. And IDK how much transformation we're going to get in a week.

And maybe Pres Nelson recorded something. His eyesight had failed which makes live speaking tough at 101. Are there customs for prerecorded conference talks? IDK.

It does wonderful things for me to remember this coming joy for us all (even if there are some less than joyful moments for us in the process of refinement), so thank you.

It would be awesome if he recorded a final, parting talk from which we could take counsel.

The apostles are all prophets though.

I do agree the mantle of President of the Church with all that entails both temporally and spiritually changes a person.  I remember a talk from one president talking how they felt the transformation pretty quickly, though I can’t remember who and if it was mentioned shortly after he became president.  I am very much looking forward to hearing from Pres. Oaks so soon after he receives it.  I find the process very interesting.  :)

I doubt it happens enough that there are any set in stone rules.  That kind of stuff….seems like they would adjust on a case by case basis.  Even with another reading a prepared talk for someone who isn’t up to speaking in person.

Oh my. Expecting, but not expecting. Thanks for letting us know.

I am much more emotional than I thought I would be.

He was a good man.

We sang "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet" for one of the hymns in our sacrament meeting this morning, and it was emotional for everyone.  I feel bad for the people giving talks this morning as they were struggling with emotion too.  One of the talks, coincidently, had several quotes from President Nelson about the blessings of the temple.  I'll miss President Nelson.

I'd love it if the church has something prerecorded of Pres Nelson for conference this weekend.

I have not  been able to post since around the 16th of September. My wife had been in coronary ICU almost all of that time. Last night she was transferred to a hospital in a suburb of Phoenix from El Paso to have a greater likelihood of experiencing an open heart surgery at a bigger hospital. So here I am in Phoenix with her waiting for the doctors to make up their minds about her surgery since she has infections in both her heart and spine, and has experienced a number of strokes from the no-longer-functioning mitral valve.  I mention this for two reasons- to explain my sudden absence and to offer my best wishes to all My LDS friends in their loss of their prophet, a pioneering open heart surgery physician. My heart is tender because of the proximity of the loss of my dear wife of 55 years. I offer my condolences and heart felt grief for each of you who lost he who was a leader and the thee leader of your church.  Also, I am in grief with you over those who lost so much today in Michigan. I am uncertain of the details, but it is a terrible to thing to have happen. Best to all.

I wish I was still living in the Phoenix area, I'd come over to offer you support.  My prayers are with you.

Indeed.  A couple of scriptures come to mind, for whatever they're worth:

Quote

Ether 12:4

4 Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.

Quote

1 Corinthians 2:9

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

I hope things go well for her.

I currently have a cold with a nasty cough so obviously you don't want me around, but if you want information about the area I can do my best to help you. I'll message you my email.

I told my wife many times that he would live to be 120 because he would be the prophet until there wasn't anything left to change in the church. Did I know what else could be changed in the church? No. But I believed there was still a lot more to change. Turns out I was wrong. The church is now 100% a different church than it was before President Nelson. He's the only general authority that God has revealed to me was called of Him, and that was a very special experience. He was so full of vigor and enthusiasm. Any time I saw him it looked like if he wanted to he could fly because of how excited he was about the future. May he rest in peace.

Expressions of sympathy can be posted on President Nelson’s Facebook and Instagram pages or emailed to sendcondolences@ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Humanitarian Aid Fund, which assists people in times of need, or the Church’s General Missionary Fund.

Good idea to mention the Humanitarian Aid Fund as well as the Missionary Fund for those who respond to times like these with a greater desire to help share the gospel as well as God’s love…since it seems those are likely the only ways we will every truly move past our self centered ways.
