Yup, breaking the rules in a "not a big deal" way for a good cause.

THAT'S WHAT I SAID when I got pulled over for speeding one time, way back when !!!  I was just trying to get something good done faster than it would have taken me if I had followed that silly speed limit sign.

It was only a sign, after all.  How did so many of us get to be people who do only what some silly stupid sign tells us to do ???

I still don't totally get it, I guess.

The ends justify the means.

A consideration the student writers at The Daily Universe were apparently keen on keeping from the counter-protesters.

The spirit of the law over the letter of the law.

I admit it, I have been known to jaywalk an empty street and defy mid-level management when their rules violated the health code. Radical, I know. 😇

Yes.  Rebel.  Divergent.  Insurgent.  Is there anything you are Allegiant to?

How does that apply?  Inasmuch as ye have done it unto...rebelled against... the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto...rebelled against... me?

Oh, I hate it when people rebel against me while thinking they somehow love me.  It doesn't make good sense and the people who think it don't seem to understand why they are rebelling.

You asked about my allegiance, and I answered with principled ideas. I believe in them based on their merit, not because of who may have said them.

Furthermore, even as a believing member and BYU student, I did not equate BYU rules or public misdemeanour law with Jesus Christ.

I will get on board anytime a group of students is willing to sacrifice to show love for others.

I wish BYU would take opportunities to focus on the people that need to be loved sometimes rather than the problem that needs to be solved.  They could have said something like "While we don't agree with homosexual behavior and did not sanction the rainbow lights, we want our lgbtq students to feel loved and supported on our campus and understand the good intentions of the people involved.  Hopefully next time they will come to us first. to get permission."

I really like your statement so please don't take this as a criticism. The statement as you wrote it would be a nice improvement.

They could have just said the part in bold. That seems like a very simple and true statement. The church's position is very clear. We know they don't approve of the behavior so no need to continually bludgeon us with the "but" part of the statement.

As far as getting permission, BYU needs to earn some trust that they would allow such things before expecting people to seek its blessing on something so basic.

I would have joined the group if I'd been there.    Just a really peaceful way to say, "we want all of Heavenly Father's children to feel safe at BYU".

Considering that this came from some who thought they could show the behavior and then the church came out and said it was still against the honor code and what the March 4th date signified I'm not sure it would be clear to everyone.

Drama is to be expected in the LGBTQ crowd.  I think they even have pageants where they appoint drama queens and drama kings.

The more witnesses, the better, is the general rule.

In the mouth of two or three witnesses....

In my opinion, sitting at the Y with colorful lights to show love and support to LGBTQ students is hardly dramatic.  Keep working on that tact though.

Seems like about as peaceful a way to protest as I’ve ever seen. Good for them.

That's a fair point.

I didn't care as much for the combative online messaging with accusations that people who may not fall in line with their views "hate" LGBT folks.  That sort of risible rhetoric seems calculate to bully or shame, but is more likely to actually offend and alienate.

Thanks,

I can see your point. I read a lot of your posts and I don’t think you hate LGBT people. You seem to come at things logically and also from a doctrinal POV, but you seem open to some things changing. I hope I am not speaking out of turn because I don’t know you. Their rhetoric is probably meant to wake people up, and help us see things from a different POV. Also, to them it may feel like “hate.” I think that is when we show more love.

Awesome! I saw pictures of it and thought it looked 100% better than normal, but I do like rainbows just for the colors.

While I guess legally it was a tresspass, but if "tresspass" claims seem highly slective. I remember as a teenager climbing to the Y, but do not recall any fenceing or no tresspassing signs.; I was with a group of adults when I went.

Are you comfortable with that confession, Provoman?  I mean, what if the statute of limitations hasn't run on your egregious, heinous crime?:unknw:

Observation: When you are reduced to hand-wringing posts pointing out the technicalities of trespassing ordinances, you've already lost the larger argument.
