I doubt it, no other proclamation has ever been canonized, does anyone even know what the 1865 proclamation even said?!

You're welcome. ;):D

Here's a list of the previous five proclamations:

Proclamation of the First Presidency to the Saints Scattered Abroad, issued on Jan. 15, 1841, in Nauvoo, Illinois — Signed by Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon and Hyrum Smith, the proclamation details the progress of the Church despite hardships and persecutions.

Proclamation of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, issued on April 6, 1845, in New York City, New York, and on Oct. 22, 1845, in Liverpool, England — Issued by the Twelve since the martyrdom dissolved the First Presidency, the proclamation was printed and distributed on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. It proclaimed that God had spoken from the heavens and restored the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth and included a voice of warning as well as an invitation.

Proclamation of the First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles, issued on Oct. 21, 1865, in Salt Lake City — This proclamation was sent to Church members to correct certain theories about the nature of God and established the order that new doctrine is to be announced only by the First Presidency.

Proclamation from the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, issued on April 6, 1980, from Fayette, New York — President Spencer W. Kimball announced the proclamation during the Sunday morning session of the April 1980 general conference and the 150th anniversary of the organization of the Church. He and then-Elder Gordon B. Hinckley joined conference proceedings from the restored Peter Whitmer Sr. farmhouse, with Elder Hinckley reading the proclamation, which detailed the Church’s restoration, progress, doctrine, mission and message.

The Family: A Proclamation to the World, issued Sept. 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City — Read by President Gordon B. Hinckley at the General Relief Society Meeting leading into October 1995 general conference, with the proclamation’s purpose to “warn and forewarn” the world and offering an official Church statement on family, marriage, gender roles and human sexuality.

no, I get that but previous to this day has anyone of us even heard that there was a 1865 one? They play no real role in the Church, other than something cool to talk about for awhile then it's onto the next thing

I’ve attended quite a few temple dedications now. At the first one, I could not contain my tears during the shout and the anthem. That happened to me on each occasion for several dedications thereafter, even though I knew what was coming.

That was my first time hearing the anthem! How cool that I got to hear it with my whole family. Well, except for our son who won't come out of his room. :(

I doubt many have heard of some of the really old ones but people have heard of and have been taught the information contained in them.

I agree plus the other statements, epistles, messages etc. If we hear the information already would you say issuing a proclamation is a waste of time? I.E. if you are told in your PB that you need to read the scriptures, is that such an insight every week we hear at church that you need to read the scriptures? Like, what is the insight or new information we don't hear?- Shouldn't issuing  the proclamation be some new information we don't hear?

I think the prescient issuance of “The Family: a Proclamation to the World” followed by subsequent events relative to the redefinition of marriage is a dramatic illustration of the value of such proclamations, even if they might only reaffirm doctrine and knowledge already had among the Latter-day Saints.

I think calling them proclamations emphasizes the importance of the messages contained within them. They are also intended to be an official message to the world about what the Church believes is important for the whole world to hear, which for most people of the world will be new information that they might refer to when talking about the Church. Such things are picked up by the news media which makes them known to the rest of the world.

so what I hear at Church isn't important? Do you think the world knows about these? or care? We constantly berate "the world" why would they listen? I have never heard the POF, let's say, mentioned on the News

If you want family breakdown, they should have come out with this in 1970 when Canada re wrote it's marriage laws, or literally any other Country worldwide but some reason the Church waited until the US was going through problems, them and only them-everyone else well....

I am going to ignore your first sentence.  A proclamation is the church making an official statement about something to the world. The POF was in the news when it first came out and I have seen portions of it quoted several times in other news media throughout the years when the position of the Church on the family is discussed.

It was handy that they sang the “Hosannah Anthem” during the dedication of the Conference Center in 2000. That gave them an archival recording they could use for this bicentennial conference with the limitations imposed by the pandemic.

I also saw President Hinckley. That was nice.

I saw my sister who sang in the choir back then.  😊

Just another spanking from Brigham Young to Orson Pratt. 😂

Not even on occasions when the Church has been subjected to criticism for its views pertaining to marriage? I have. Many times. I’ve seen the proclamation itself criticized or marginalized by those who resent its implications. But it reflects the mind and will of God and thus should be part of the public discourse.

this may be hard to hear but people don't care about the church here

I was fine during the shout.  But the song...at the end you can see one of the choir members have to stop singing because she gets too choked up—exactly when I was struggling to keep the tears back myself.

Haven’t felt that way in a very long time.  If you were prepared and in tune, this conference was unforgettable.

Yeah, I sob cried from the end of the temple announcement through the blessing that had a phrase that the Spirit could make a promise to me with all the way to the end of the closing hymn where I only choked out a few words of the end of the song.

Promise delivered and I did not think I did a particularly good job of preparing. Thanks to everyone who made it happen from the apostles on down to the whoever set up the room and ran the camera and more thanks to the chief architect.
