10THAmendment Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Apparently a major announcement/revelation of some sort coming tomorrow big enough to require a full on solemn assembly. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/solemn-assembly-hosanna-shout-april-2020 1

I think it is mainly to emphasize the significance of the First Vision and the Hosanna Shout is a part of the celebration of that event. 1
rongo Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) I think it's just in connection with the 200th anniversary of the First Vision (1838 account). Nothing more than that. President Nelson's method has been to do major changes in the week prior to conference (or in letters, such as with witnesses to ordinances), but Corona and the missions being closed took up all the oxygen with that (if big changes were in the offing at all). I expect the rest of conference to be like this first session: lots of commemorating of the First Vision and Restoration. I don't anticipate any major changes. I think the "major" changes this time around have been the quiet updating of the handbook regarding primary: no more youth teaching classes (I used to do that all the time for 5th Sundays so all adults could be present), primary program in the last couple of months of the year, etc. Edited April 4, 2020 by rongo 2

Not exclusively. Home Teaching to Ministering, High Priests joining Elder's Quorums if not in a High Priest calling, and restructuring Young Women and Young Mens all came in Conference.

There have been many changes in conference, too, under President Nelson. I think the changes to disciplinary councils was pretty earth-shaking. Given that the D&C still contains instructions for disciplinary councils (yes, Scott, I'm choosing to use the old term), including now-defunct instructions for high councils, I think that a codified revelation would have been better than a policy change, but that's me. I do think the high council's reason for existing is now sharply diminished.

The Stake President still has the option of using the full Ward Council if they feel it is needed. The High Council still has to present stake calling changes so we have to keep them around for that.

It is rumored that the 3 Nephites attended or showed up at a RLDS World Conference a couple decades ago. If they did show up, I'm sure they had a wonderful time. 1

As keepers and protectors of the restored gospel, the RLDS isn't such a bad place for the 3 to visit. Other branches of the restoration? Not so much.

That, to me, is significant enough all by itself to merit a solemn assembly. Edited April 5, 2020 by Scott Lloyd 3

"We pray that this conference will be memorable and unforgettable because of the messages you will hear, the unique announcements which will be made, and the experiences in which you will be invited to participate,” There may be one more bombshell yet to come. Wheaties for breakfast everyone. Experiences likely referencing the Solemn Assembly. Unique announcements TBD. 3

Wheaties for breakfast everyone. Experiences likely referencing the Solemn Assembly. Unique announcements TBD. “Unique announcements”: new visual symbol for the Church and a special fast on a day other than normally scheduled. That’s two “unique announcements,” enough to make the noun plural. But perhaps, on the occasion of the First Vision bicentennial, there will be a proclamation to the world issued, similar to the one that came forth in the April 1980 general conference, when the sesquicentennial of the organization of the Church was observed. That would make three “unique announcements.” I think there will be nothing about ordination of women, acceptance of gay marriage, repeal of the Word of Wisdom or any portion thereof, or the other sensational stuff the rumor mill churns out twice a year. 2
Tacenda Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Two of my not so active sons, they resigned, are telling me that for the hosana shout tomorrow they want people to do it outside. I just don't believe it, am I wrong or right?
