What are the chances of her Bishop having a chat with her?  Trying not to judge but wow, she struck me as someone with an axe to grind.

Unlikely. If I were the Bishop I would stay out of it unless she started spewing this nonsense in Church.

I am guessing she has some kind of trauma or is justifying something. Or she fancies herself a philosopher and thinks she is being deep. I feel bad for the kids.

That's what gets me, doesn't strike me as someone who has the well being of children in mind.  Just another person who wants to use the internet to bash people she disagrees with and cause trouble.  No wonder people are slowly leaving social media.  Disconnecting from the matrix *Social media lol* was one of the better decisions I made this year, facebook is poison.

I think she's just trying to get people to think about the men's responsibility for unwanted pregnancies rather than heaping all the blame on the women. I think its semi-satirical and I don't think she is encouraging abortion.

That's the flip side of it too, there's a lot of male scoundrels out there, had to grow up with a real fiend so I know it takes 2.  I dunno, maybe something along the lines of limiting abortion and having mandated paternity tests, shame the crap out of anyone trying to get out of supporting their kids.   The whole abortion/child blame game always makes me a bit sick to my stomach, would rather see people try to come together to find solutions, is what it is I guess.

I don't think so. I think she's quite clever.

If she is she is terrible at it. She goes for shock value but I think that is more to end up noticed (and we fell for it) rather then provoking a conversation. She is no Jonathan Swift. Also, the call for mandatory vasectomies as a matter of course and castration as punishments? Basically she is taking the idea of bodily autonomy used to justify an abortion and suggesting that bodily autonomy should not exist for either gender. Her ejaculation comparison is......dumb. I mean, she sounds like she is saying if men would just master the pull out method of birth control things would be fine. Yeah......okay....

Jonathan Swift was never on the female side of American gender bias. :) Seriously Nehor, a person with your wit is reading her piece literally? That's uncharacteristic. Did you read the end where she stated:

“Don’t like my ideas? That’s fine. I’m sure there are better ones,” she tweeted. “Go ahead and suggest your own ideas. My point is that its nonsense to focus on the women if you want to get rid of abortions"

And she's advocating responsible condom use--not coitus interruptus.

No, I do not buy it. The stuff just does not seem well written enough. While she clearly does not think any of it is going to happen the logic is just off. Good satire has to be rooted in truth.

Condoms are not 100% effective either. They do admitted ly probably have a higher success then coitus interruptus.

How about the paradox of Roman Catholic doctrine being both anti-abortion and anti-contraceptive?

She needs to get her facts straight:

  • Quote

Following a long period of minimal change, the overall unintended pregnancy rate (the number of unintended pregnancies per 1,000 women aged 15–44) decreased substantially from 54 in 2008 to 45 in 2011, a decline of 18%. This is the lowest rate since at least 1981 and is likely due to an overall increase in contraceptive use and the use of highly effective methods.[8]

Between 1981 and 2008, unintended pregnancy rates among poor women were on the rise, while the rate among higher-income women declined steadily. Between 2008 and 2011, however, the rate among women with incomes below the federal poverty level dropped from 137 per 1,000 women aged 15–44 to 112 per 1,000—an 18% decline in just three years. The rate among higher-income women decreased 20% between 2008 and 2011.[8,12]

The unintended pregnancy rate among teens has been declining since the late 1980s. Between 2008 and 2011, the unintended pregnancy rate among women aged 18–19 declined 20%, and the unintended birth rate declined 21%. Among women aged 15–17, the unintended pregnancy rate declined 44% during the same period, and the unintended birth rate declined 47%.[8]  https://www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/unintended-pregnancy-united-states .

The introduction and widespread use of the contraceptive pill and IUD in the 60s led to a great deal of unprotected sex, which in turn led to the vast increase in STDs, including Chlamydia and viral ovarian cancer, etc.  Free love turned out not to be so "free."  Then, in the 80s, unprotected sex became very deadly -- with the introduction of HIV and AIDs.  As in most other matters, responsibility is shared.  No one is free from blame.

She does have a point, if only to point out the inherent disparity between the results of the action (pregnancy) and then the dictations of men about what the options are or should be, in many cases without taking responsibility for the act that caused the pregnancy itself.  I can say that the article resonated with my wife, who is LDS and a feminist.  I am waiting for a teleconference, so I only skimmed the article, but I recognized it from something my wife was talking to our daughter about this evening.

She isn't the first woman tired of men talking to and about what women should do with their bodies, instead of accepting their own ownership.

I am sorry to say that you just relapsed and lost your sobriety from social media with that post...

Some snippets:

Quote

In her Twitter thread, which led to debate and discussion on who is blame, Blair said it does take two people for intentional pregnancies, but that unwanted pregnancies are only caused by one person — the man.

She said men are to blame because “unwanted pregnancies can only happen when men orgasm irresponsibly,” whereas women can orgasm as many times as they would like without ever getting pregnant.

“Women enjoying sex does not equal unwanted pregnancy and abortion,” she tweeted. “Men enjoying sex and having irresponsible ejaculations is what causes unwanted pregnancies and abortion.”

Blair also said in her thread that birth control is much easier for men than women.

“So why in the world are there ever unwanted pregnancies? Why don’t men just use condoms every time they have sex? Seems so simple, right? Oh. I remember. Men _don’t_ love condoms.”

It is because of this that Blair says people need to stop shaming women.

My point is that it’s nonsense to focus on women if you’re trying to get rid of abortions. Abortion is the ‘cure’ for an unwanted pregnancy. If you want to stop abortions, you need to prevent the ‘disease’ – meaning, unwanted pregnancies. And the only way to do that, is by focusing on men ...”

Do you agree with her that 100% of the responsibility is on men?  Or is she being satirical about that too...because it sure doesn't sound like it.  Judging by the replies to her posts, people took her seriously.  Some agreed, some didn't.

"The only way to do this is by focusing on men...?  Really?

Women have no say about condoms?  Yeah right!  It's really easy..."no condom...no sex!"  The man will have a condom on quicker than you can slip on a shower cap! Not using condoms is a mutual agreement.  Anything else is rape.

I agree with her about shame though.  Shaming is never helpful...ever!  Shaming men is no better.

I completely missed any hint of satire.

I am a former Bishop, now on the High Council,as if that matters one iota.

She is a wacko.  :)
