Ham Clam Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Does anyone have any recommendations of music by LDS artists?
seriously honestly Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Church type music, musical compositions, or contemporary? As far as compositions/contemporary go The Piano Guys. You should check out their rendition of Let It Go/Vivaldi's Winter (I don't mind Let It Go when they play it).
cinepro Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) As with music in general, the 1980s was really the high-water mark for LDS music. So I would start there. Based on my last trip to Deseret Book, I would have to say that 90% of current LDS music is produced by (and possibly for) blonde women in their 20's. Edited December 9, 2014 by cinepro
ERayR Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Does anyone have any recommendations of music by LDS artists? I don't know about their new stuff but back in the 70"s they were good. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/20746/SUNSHADE-N-RAIN-STILL-HAPPY-TOGETHER.html?pg=all
Rivers Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Or did you mean actual lds music from lds artists?

Ham Clam Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 I was looking for more contemporary spiritual music. I'll check out the links/groups you guys suggested.
Rivers Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hFkOBuPTeTs#Is this better? Edited December 10, 2014 by Rivers
Grudunza Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 The album Home, by Julie de Azavedo, and anything by Sam Payne.
Kenngo1969 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) I'm with Rivers on I'm Trying to Be Like Jesus but I like this arrangement a little better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQVKJnZbAwk Whenever I begin to lose perspective amidst the frustration of my seemingly-intractable, seemingly-insoluble mortal problems and I need a metaphorical slap upside the head to remind me, "Ken, you're an Ageless, Eternal Being!", I listen to this arrangement of If You Could Hie to Kolob by de Azevedo. I think it's matchless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qWOVUy-IRg Edited December 10, 2014 by Kenngo1969
JLHPROF Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 I was looking for more contemporary spiritual music. I'll check out the links/groups you guys suggested. In my opinion the highpoint was Jeff Goodrich's double album act - I Heard Him Come and A Grove of My Own. His third album was also good, but these two were amazing. I don't think it ever got any better than I Heard Him Come album. I also love Jenny Phillips "The Miracle", and some sporadic songs by MIchael McClean, Kenneth Cope, and Afterglow. Not much else has ever had any impact on me.
Tacenda Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Or did you mean actual lds music from lds artists? All I can say is if "The Killers" lead singer is LDS....it's all about the money.

Tacenda Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Judgemental much?http://www.mormon.org/me/5233 I've seen this entry on Mormon.org. Maybe that music video is one that Brandon's not too proud of...especially when thinking about the 13th AofF. Everyone has a past, but his videos can have a detrimental affect, and it just seems like an LDS member would try to refrain from stuff like that, surely he must know that. That's why I mention the money part. But I definitely shouldn't judge, or maybe it was the so called righteous judging I was doing. 1
Grudunza Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Btw, if you're looking for music for your kids, I know an LDS person who's pretty good at that. Hey, what is the code to post an actual YouTube video, so it embeds in the thread like Rivers did?
Rain Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Not really an "lds band" the members of Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band are LDS and write a lot of songs that go along with the gospel.
Stargazer Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 The album Home, by Julie de Azavedo, and anything by Sam Payne. Any relation to Marvin Payne?
Stargazer Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Btw, if you're looking for music for your kids, I know an LDS person who's pretty good at that. Hey, what is the code to post an actual YouTube video, so it embeds in the thread like Rivers did? It used to be a real chore to get it to work. The board software has been updated and now it is a simple matter of posting the link string:
Crypto Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 I've listened to and heard many like piano guys, so another +1 internets to them.

Grudunza Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Julie deAzavedo "Make Enough of Me" (this whole album, Home, is just deeply spiritual beautiful music) Sam Payne and Cherie Call: "Sunflower" (song starts at about 2:25... Sam's Coming Just to Go album is an all-time favorite of mine)
Coreyb Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Don't judge the Killers by that song alone, they have lots of good music. Sort of in the same vein as them you have Imagine Dragons and Neon Trees.
Virtutis Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Lindsey Stirling and David Archuleta are two of my favorites, but Imagine Dragons is also!
Traela Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 If you like Celtic rock, Needfire is good. I haven't tracked down their Mormon connection, but they have songs entitled "Alma the Younger" and "Spirit of Nauvoo." 1
