But I like the idea that you can travel anywhere in the world and run into a member and for me you have this instant connection with them, yet you may have all kinds of political or other differences 1

That we are literally spirit children of God, created in His image. That we can always turn to them. The Atonement. I also appreciate how we all try to help each other in our times of need, and the Church welfare assistance program, in all of it's forms. I also appreciate the temple rituals and symbolism. 2
pogi Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 (edited) One of my favorite things is ordinance work for the dead (which is also family centered). I love the idea that an indigenous tribal person who has no opportunity to hear the gospel in this life will have equal opportunity for salvation. I love that I do not need to view Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists etc. as damned to hell fire. I also love that we are taught to seek out truth wherever it may be. We view all people and cultures as potentially enlightened holders of truth. That just feels so right! Lastly, I love the degrees of glory. Sorry to be such a hoarder of Mormon goodies, but I can't pick just one. Eternal families is my numero uno! Edited November 23, 2013 by pogi 3
sweetpotatoh Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 The atonement. Eternal families. The knowledge that is imparted to us, makes life easier to live when you know the why of it all. I love how the gospel is compatible with science.

AndyDnom Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 my favorite is that folks who die before age 8 go to highest heaven, so heaven is almost exclusively made up of infant mortality. theres like barely any people in heaven who lived to adulthood on earth, because of how many died before age 8, especially before the modern era, and medicine, etc. so the worst thing you can do really is teach someone the mormon gospel, it ruins their shot!

The only solution to the Problem of Evil that even comes close to being satisfying. We are all responsible for our own decisions -- no creation ex nihilo or Original Sin here -- because we were never created and can never be destroyed. We simply are, we are a part of the natural world. 2. Embodied, material, individual Gods and Goddesses. There is nothing evil about matter, and our bodies - male, female, whatever - are glorious Temples. Eternal families consisting of lovers and the children created from that love can last forever if we choose to want them to. 3. Eternal Progression. As Brigham Young said: "According to [one] theory, God can progress no further in knowledge and power; but the God that I serve is progressing eternally, and so are his children: they will increase to all eternity, if they are faithful." Or as Wilford Woodruff said: "If there was a point where man in his progression could not proceed any further, the very idea would throw a gloom over every intelligent and reflecting mind. God himself is increasing and progressing in knowledge, power, and dominion, and will do so, worlds without end. It is just so with us." We get to keep on learning and progressing and never remain stagnant. 4. Dispensations of the Gospel and the willingness to accept truth wherever it may come from. It's not the messenger that's important, it's the message. From a historical diffusionist perspective, I think world religions are far more interconnected than is commonly supposed, and so it's pure joy to rummage through history and find the good stuff from every tradition, which are probably all descendants and modifications of the same underlying idea anyway. 5. Meekness, persuasion, and love unfeigned. Like Joseph Smith taught, kindness is our religion. No authority ought or even can truly be had through the authoritarian pronouncements of a mere Priesthood or Creed. Gods need only be worshipped insofar as they are Just and Merciful. That's the tip of the iceberg! 4
