Sunday'S Broadcast Will "Cement President Monson'S Place As The Missionary Prophet"

I am pretty sure it has to be burned over first before it can become the Promised land. I mean, have you been to Missouri? Blech.....

Hello Nehor...

Oh I do beg to differ... I have family that live in Missouri and have visited several times... they own acres of beautiful emerald rolling hills and fields... ponds in their yards where wildlife drink... even the Mallards and Canadian geese fly in... and of course the deer, including the little fawns with their spotted coats... armadillos... opposums... racoons... numerous varieties of frogs... herons. Tall trees, horses grazing, vegetable gardens bursting with fresh produce... no, they live surrounded by the beauty of nature. Now granted, not all of Missouri is as lovely... as is the case everywhere, even here in the Pacific Northwest (but not where I live here on the rugged and beautiful Oregon coast).

St Louis also has probably the best botanical garden in the country.

The announcement will have to do with how missionary work is performed such as the type of work missionaries do during their day, how members perform their callings, and the role of social media and technology. Revamping the approach is long overdue. There is actually a negative correlation between the number of missionaries and the number of converts. When the number of missionaries started to drop, the number of converts went up. Too many missionaries knocking on doors does far more harm than good. The missionaries in our ward spend all their time tracting because they have nobody to teach. We now have 8 missionaries in our area when two years ago we had 2 yet the number of convert baptisms have remained the same.

I do not expect to have my jaw drop, I am more expecting to feel relieved that a long overdue change is taking place.

Works of charity and works of evangelization are both valid for the missionary; some will do one thing better than the other. It would not be abnormal for this to evolve as the needs of the poor grown ever greater with the widening gap between the rich and poor continues to expand throughout the world. As a thought to this concept of a prophet being known for something....I am not sure such a simple thing as changing the age of entrance into the missionary field is such a big accomplishment or change nor is it enough to make a legacy. Prophets are prophets when they act as a prophet; an administrator is an administrator when he acts as one. I see a marked distinction between the actions of a prophet and those of an administrator and it is not healthy to confuse the two things. When we confuse the two we lessen the true role of a prophet and we aggrandize the role of an administrator. The Church has grown such that there is a significant need for good administrators; however, a man that is called as a prophet, seer, and revelator may operate in the role of an administrator and not so much as that of a prophet. A prophet speaks or reveals divinely inspired revelations; he foretells the future to the followers of God; he is uniquely gifted with moral insight and teachings. I think we have far more administrators in the Church than we have prophets, seers, and revelators. I do not say this, nor should it be interpreted as a criticism. The Church needs, requires both functions to properly direct the affairs of the Church. However, I prefer to distinguish which function is actually occurring and not confuse the two.

If one checks out the news on this at LDS.org - http://www.lds.org/church/events/the-work-of-salvation-missionary-broadcast?cid=HPL1P01W01031〈=eng

Then scroll down to the bottom about the new Website that will coincide with this one can read the tabs at the top

- New Vision

- Priesthood Leaders

- Ward Councils and Ward Mission Leader

- Members and Missionaries

- Special Broadcast

The first tab leads us to to understand a very new and different approach is about to occur.

Wait, there's a link on that new website for members to report the number of hours they spend doing something called "Neighborhood Contacting"?! :help:

I clicked it but since it is near the end of the month it was overloaded. Optimal time to reach the site is the first week of the month

Well, I was kind of excited about this meeting. But my stake has decided that they are going to rebroadcast it at 6 and so we don't even get to get out early (1-4 schedule). I'm hoping my husband will just let me get the highlights from twitter instead of accompanying him.

It appears the website is more about engaging members and not really a change for the missionaries. I was hoping something a little more engaging for my son in AZ who basically tracts all day with no real prospects of anyone to teach.

This would seem logical. Get our missionaries into the community, where they can build friendships and trust. This would allow us to reach people never before approached by them. I like it if this is what occurs.

Hmmmm....From the wording of the letter, it sounds like your Stake specifically isn't supposed to do this.

Will it be streamed live online or is it only being beamed to stake centres.

"Made you look, made you stare, made you spoil your underwear"

Well... The first part anyway. I was starting to ready my excuses...

Thomas Monson reveals that all along he was a deep-cover Jehovah's Witness double-agent?

Well, should be interesting. As a Ward Missionary I am a little nervous but also optimistic.

Just an FYI, the change of age for missionaries was stated to be a revelation by at least one apostle, IIRC, so it appears it was not purely an administrative decision based on seeing how it worked in countries where it has been allowed for awhile.

Every building in our stake is receiving the broadcast.

I'd be interested in seeing that. This isn't a CFR, but I'm curious to hear how the apostle phrased it. I would hope that they certainly reached a recommendation as part of their "study it out in their mind" process which was then confirmed through prayer. That's still enough for them to be able to say it's a revelation but wondered if the apostle implied something else.

I'm in a time zone where they won't be opening chapels to it. I was considering staying up late to watch on the internet if there is a live feed.

My memory says it was either in Deseret News or Mormon Newsroom. I just tried to find it on Deseret News and couldn't so it is probably the other. Worse comes to worse, I am pretty sure I posted about it here...but am not feeling really great right now so am just going to keep reading for distraction and look again later. Remind me if I forget. I've looked and can't find it anywhere even though I can picture the article in my mind's eye...

However, due to issues with my memory that doesn't mean that the article actually exists, so perhaps it is best to simply put it down to a false memory unless someone else speaks up about remembering it.

Our assistant stake clerk is recording it and burning DVDs. Then Sunday week we'll take Sunday school and priesthood/Relief Society time to watch it in all our wards.

By mind's eye..... that sounds familiar. Was it your spiritual eyes that see it? 2nd sight
