My husband was in the bishopric and had had a goatee for 20 years. His squeeky clean bishop who wears a hard missionary side part mentioned shaving it and he replied “only if you want a divorced 2nd counselor.”

My man was spitting facts.

My brother in law lives near salt lake. When he was called as a bishop a year ago the stake president specifically requested he not shave his beard. He didn’t. 

I’ve had a beard for years during which I was called to leadership roles on the ward and stake level. No one ever mention it or asked me to shave. 

The notion that beards are wrong is dying. Just like the notion the women shouldn’t wear pants. The restoration moves slowly sometimes but it does move forward. The church repents and frees itself of the baggage of false traditions.

I wouldn’t call it a false tradition.  It served a useful purpose at one time.  Foolish tradition because it outlived its purpose by way too long.

My favorite facial hair tool is the Norelco One Blade. Because shaving with somewhat longer hair and shorter hair is the same (if not easier when long). If the stubble gets a bit long other electric shavers can pull a bit.  Consequently, I'll only shave every couple of days (I'm not an fast facial hair grower) and I can be lazier about it. Some days Sundays will include a bit of stubble. Other days it'll be clean.

If he were going to be in "Amish clothing" he would have to shave off the mustache part of his beard! You can always tell a Mennonite from an Amish by the presence or absence of a mustache! Now you know the rest of the story! 😁 One more hint - the presence of absence of deer hunting season!

Good to know….though I might forget these days, which is going to annoy me greatly as I pride myself on knowing these kinds of details.  Mennonites means mustaches.

The extra “o” fooled google because I didn’t add “beard”.  I was thinking he meant a hair style.  My son wore the hair off the side of his head, so had a thick Mohawk as an infant, though he wasn’t there yet for his blessing.

I am impressed,  but am forced to say I really don’t like the curly waxed look.
 

 I don’t like hairstyle for women that take a lot of work unless it’s elaborate braiding to be fair.

All for a more natural, less product look.

Something I had forgotten about just popped into my head: the next time that I went to the temple, there were several men with beards in attendance. Not from my district, of course.

My then-wife and I were not too happy; but, still, I was obedient to my file leader, and apparently that was what was required.

Bummer. The bing AI engine rejected “Dallin Oaks with a beard” as against its policy. So you’ll have to live with “bear with bare arms.”

I met an Area Authority last week, and he seemed startled to see my goatee, but he HAD to say something I guess, so he kind of stuttered through "You... wear your goatee very well!" -- a rather odd statement for the first seconds you are meeting someone.  Uncomfortable! 

Nobody seems to care at all hereabouts, but 10 or so years ago, even after being released as bishop, but then on the HC, I would not have dared to have grown facial hair.

I think it was Covid and watching "church" from home that made beards so ubiquitous that no one ever brought up the custom of a beardless leadership, when so may had beards.  Half the men in the ward would have squawked!
