Isn't this what the new hymnbook will do?  Be on digital, but I assume they will have it formatted so they can print up identical to the other pages in the hymnbook and then glue them in.

Is that what is planned?

I can’t imagine not having hymn books in the pews, but maybe that’s one of those cultural things we’re going to have to give up. Hope not, but it won’t be a deal-breaker for me. :)

I remember the first Topical Guide insert that the Church published. We glued it into the back of our scriptures. The same could easily be done with an insert of 2-4 patriotic songs and the new hymn book.

It could, but I really doubt that would happen with the hymn book.

I think it would be a great way to de-centralize the Church and bolster local identity. Wouldn’t hurt anything to do it.

They will have the global printed up, but additional options available in the digital library.  This can pretty much expand available hymns to being both massive in amount and wider variety while a smaller core of hymns allows for greater familiarity and consistency worldwide.  Best of both worlds, imo.

A 'royal anthem' is one played when the monarch is actually present. I harbour some doubts about Queen Elizabeth II showing up to many sacrament meetings anywhere in the Commonwealth ...

Really? She hasn't been to your ward yet?

Well....  having lived in the UK since November 2017, and having visited at other times, I have never heard the "royal anthem" played when the Queen was present.

This. I also think that it's not that easy to separate doctrine from culture. Some things that others deem "just culture that can be discarded" are doctrinal, I think. This might prove to be like surgery to remove a tumor that will kill the patient because of how embedded the tumor and body is. And disagreement on whether it's even a tumor that needs to be removed at all. Discussion of the Unwritten Order of Things, and Packer's vs. others' interpretations of unwritten things of vast importance comes to mind.

One thing I think we all can agree on is that British spellings (colour, favourite, theatre, etc.) should be banished in the Church . . .  =@

Yeah, it is if you didn't grow up in the "Pioneer Corridor." Likewise, there is a difference between "Mormons," or "Utah Product," and "Latter-day Saints."
