That’s easy... it’s line upon line, precept upon precept and we are all at different places in this mortal experience of learning and growth.

Jeanne Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) Heya...you guys have spent years telling me that my fears or concerns about mormonism could be solved by reading the Book of Mormon sincerely..and that I could receive a personal revelation that it was true. All these years I have been concerned about policy changes..and all said revelations..was that if I prayed..I would receive that personal revelation to me that it was...what happened to your interpretation of revelation? You don't really know me..you don' really know Rockpond...other than our contributions to this board. How does this work...really?? What if that feeling/revelation is not what you may have received?? Are we less than...wrong?? I am ex mormon...so I am surely lost..but Rockpond, a dedicated member of your church..a former bishopric member with family..with a testimony..mind you. Perhaps..and I don't speak for Rockpond'. where does one get to decide what that spirit says? Edited April 9, 2018 by Jeanne 2

When a person claims a personal revelation is not for the church, but it conflicts with a revelation from the brethren that is for the church. Can you give me an example where they both can be true? Glenn You are quite right, they can’t. So where does that leave us? For me, I have to respect the thought, prayers, time, and effort the General Authorities put into the decisions and policies they promulgate for the callings they have received. Glenn 2

In the last few wards and branches I have attended lately it has been really bad. In the wards I have attended where home and visiting teaching were alive and vibrant, the percentage of less actives was quote lower than the others. I hope that you do find some good home and visiting teachers. I really wish that you lived in my area. I would really like to get to know you in person. Glenn Thanks Glenn, wouldn't it be fun to meet all of us in person!!
Tacenda Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 15 hours ago, Rain said: I think that many who feel that the church takes up too much time are also active with demanding callings. While I feel it is a matter of priorities with choosing to minister I also recognize the need for priorities in choosing other things . For example, during the school year for my husband, weeks have happened where YM stake soccer, combined activity with teacher's qourem is in charge and YM cleaning the church have been scheduled and my husband has a mid term, final or project for school. That may be too much for my husband so his school things get priority and he makes arrangements for someone else to do one or more of the church things. My husband feels hyper responsible about doing everything. It has taken time working with him so that he can choose the "best" thing when he can't do it all. Here is also where a little creativity can come to play as well. Often people when they are dealing with children or youth think, "I can't do both things" thinking that you have to take double the time for both, but if you have the children help you with the other thing then you double your work while teaching the children/youth more effectively. For example, if ministering means that our HT family needs yards work done, you ask the teacher's qourem president you are working with what he thinks about the quorem doing it. I'm not suggesting that the quorum take over all your ministering, just that there are creative ways that people miss. Perhaps a busy bishop needs to travel some distance to give a blessing to someone he HT. It may work out that someone he needs to talk with, which he would normally do in office, can drive with him and help him give the blessing. So the "church" CAN expect too much of someone, but working with the Lord and making prioriries you can end up doing much more than you would/could on your own. I think that sometimes people aren't given the opportunity to serve. In my old ward, the callings went to the same people over and over. The old storyline that the same 10 people do all the work. I wish the auxillories, or bishop would give those that aren't seemingly that active, a church calling. In my single days I was inactive for a couple of years and then was called to team teach Primary. It was a big reason I started back to church. I know that a year ago, if they had given me a calling right after helping with a special needs young man (he stopped coming to church because of major back surgery), I would have stayed active.

All my leaders have expressed gratitude at my initiative. Don't leave your commitment in someone else's hands. Chances are you won't really find your special place until you are out there actively looking for it. Edited April 10, 2018 by Calm 3

I did set up an appointment with my bishop and told him my situation and asked to be put in a service calling, of course all are serving callings, but he read my mind and gave me a compassionate service calling. The RS president and a few on the committee are visiting me tomorrow. The bishop put my husband and I in charge of helping to clean the building on a weekly basis as well.

I loved the ladies that visited tonight! One is a convert of only 6 years and she was a hoot. She is from New Mexico and she was a Baptist for a short while and her and her husband searched for a church so they went to several. He got a job in Utah and apparently while she stayed in New Mexico to sell their home he was immediately fellowshipped by the new neighbor and had the missionaries teaching him and he wanted to be a member right away and he told her she needed to bring some new ties for him to wear to church. She moved here and felt something and joined also, then a year and a day they were sealed with their two younger kids. I'm excited to be in the calling, and I probably need to go to RS and meet all these ladies they kept talking about that were so fun. After they left I immediately bawled because I'm fighting this. But need this part of the church.

Calm Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Very good to hear. Remember, you don't have to make it all about proving the truth or not of the Church any more than anyone needs to be making their relationship with you purely about helping with your faith. Just let yourself enjoy what you are doing in that moment. The thinking and analysis can come later. 3

Marginal Gains Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 Is there to be monthly, or quarterly reports of how much ‘Ministering’ has been going on in the ward?
