Another One Bites the Dust

For the second time now, you have made reference to your wife having convinced you of something. I've said I will not abide a personalizing of the discussion, and if you persist in doing so, I will summarily end the conversation.

Sorry, did not mean to personalize. I just meant that I don't see any reason to limit God to working only through the church in mortality. I was just saying I know a believer who agrees.

Wards keep track of them when the people have talked to the members or the bishop has asked them to speak to me.  Then when it happens yet again I go back and start adding it up and wondering what is going on.  That is how the ward keeps track of it.

What going on is the parable of the sower. It is really and always will remain that simple.

Either that, or the church isn't actually true. Just saying.

That statement could apply to every Church or organization. Life itself may mean nothing...I am hoping for "true and meaningful". But I am a believer...other things I know.

Of course. I'm just saying that your explanation isn't the only plausible one.

I may be sure of some things, but never would I think my way or the highway.

Nor would I, my friend.

I wish your attitude were shared by the correlation committee. It seems that they and those who control them think it's their way or the highway.

I don't believe that is the case...otherwise there would be no committee, just a chairman sitting at an empty table.

How would one do that? Are you suggesting people can and should merely decide to set aside all their issues and believe anyway? I don't think that works, most of the time. Or are you saying we should just start labeling anyone who disagrees with us as "negative" and therefore ignore whatever they have to say?

Neither.

But I figured out a long time ago that if I wish to be more like another person, then I can decide to make that happen, including choosing to do the things that other person does. It's just rational.

In follow up I offered to give her (newly doubting friend) Planted and A Reason For Faith. My favorite books for doubters right now.  Gave them to our bishop to read.  She appreciated my efforts and thinks I am a "real" person, but won't be manipulated or pressured back to church.  She knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is all false.  I very much did not pressure her and said no problem if she doesn't want to read them.  I also think they are not manipulative books, but openly talk about the issues.

Maybe she's not getting the answers, like the majority of the doubters out there.  That's what is missing in this equation.  Doubters don't want to doubt, it takes years for some to let go of the church, the church they've given thousands of dollars and hours to.  When there are answers then there might be a way out of those doubts.  If an apple is an apple is an apple and when it's not an orange, how is it ever going to be an orange?

Yeah, that's me. I tried at least 6 or 7 times to go back and regain my faith, and it just wasn't possible. Even trying to go through the motions just filled me with stress, and I had to let go.

When the harsh part of the reality sinks in there's no going back. When you realize once The Purpose that assembles you is not reality, once you figure this out it's too late.
