If I understand the reasoning, the idea is that the scriptures imply that John was taken to the highest mountain for his vision and there is no restriction to it being on earth in their view so they look to the highest mountain in the solar system, which excluding Rheasilvia (if I recall correctly) since it is on an asteroid, is currently believed to be on Mars. I wonder if the other planets have been mapped well enough to know for sure or if there are other conditions applied that limit it to Mars. Savedwheat, is Mars being New Earth based solely on that one point of John's vision or are there other reasons/scriptures used to support the idea. It seems an extreme doctrine to base on only one scripture without others to confirm the interpretation. 2

My computer is on the blink so I've had to wait till today (and it's been difficult) when I'm at the library and can use their computers so I could tell you that you have such a misunderstanding (bordering on arrogant ignorance actually) about Mormons and our doctrines that it's hard to know where to begin... But, I doubt it would do any good to try and point out your errors (there's so many), so I'll just let it go... because I see you've at least been put on "limited" status so that's a help. I wish you no ill will... really. But people like you irk the hades out of me... and I couldn't care less if you think we Mormons are going to hell... that's not up to you and your opinion is worthless... There!! Look, if you say Jesus is God, what about all those New Testament scriptures that talk about "God and Jesus Christ, whom thou (God) hath sent"? Or Stephen who, looking into heaven, saw Jesus Christ on the right hand of who? GOD! Why did they draw a distinction between the two? And if God said there was no one but HIM, how could Jesus have been with HIM? God told Isaiah that He didn't know of anyone else besides HIM, yet the New Testament repeatedly says God and HIS Son, Jesus. Now you've got two beings you say is God. Why would you not want to receive atonement from Jesus who is with God and Jesus who is God? Why do you think Christianity was lost for 1800 years? The same teaching in the first century in the Bible is the same today.

I think you'll find the LDS agree Jesus' atonement is central to what we would call our religious belief. We also, by and large, accept Jesus is God. We don't think "Christianity was lost for 1800 years". We would probably say keys pertaining to the priesthood were taken from the earth for 1800 years, which constitutes what we term the Great Apostasy. As for comparing the teachings of today, which are many, with teachings in the first Century "in the Bible" is difficult because they are many too.

We do believe God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are one. We simply don't buy into the notion that the terms and concepts when the Trinity was defined centuries ago accurately depict God. Thus, while we say they are One, we don't say they are one in substance or being, necessarily.

Modern Evangelical Christians look more Jewish at least in regards to their hyper monotheism.
