Banning

I know that I spent what felt like eons explaining to people why they were banned on ZLMB and in my opinion, it got dramatically worse.

The vast majority of people banned just came back and got banned again.

All attention is good attention. :)

Yes indeed Mr. Ahab.

But I am always looking to improve. I really do like this message board and I do not want the boot over all. I have been restricted on a few threads here and there. Not a lot. But a few.

Feedback is very important to me.  I want to try to be a good boy.

:acute:

Yes Russell!! Yes!  Thank you.

Teancum and Russell agree on something?!  :o:shok:  :mega_shok:

;):D:rofl:

... As a volunteer sports referee, I never -- ever -- penalise a player without saying why.

Rugby has rules and officials?  Who knew? ;):D

I said I had a general idea but I am not sure it was deserved. Was the other offender removed as well since I cannot see it.

Is it too much to ask for a note from a mod stating what the behavior was?

I believe so. Two were removed. I tend to think that those on limited should be reinstated after a certain amount of time. There is no sense in keeping a person on limited for years. We all need a second chance just as some of the banned have gotten. I do think that there needs to be a discussion about this since we are a board community. However, I don't think that the moderators enjoy these type of threads. So lets see what happens to this thread.

I think there is an unwritten rule here that one can only start X number of thread in X amount of time, (?)

Dunno. Back in the day of mailing lists, I participated in one that would ban people for a time, if they posted more than two messages a day!

Yes, it's so insufferably rude to express any degree of scepticism when someone loudly and proudly advocates definitively apostate positions while insisting that everyone should accept those positions as compatible with the covenant life of a Latter-day Saint, just because they say so.

As a volunteer sports referee, I never -- ever -- penalise a player without saying why.

My experience here is that sincere skepticism is warmly welcomed.  And the "because I say so" argument is generally disregarded.

A badge of pride to be banned? From here? From anything here? Never! Not me. I only get banned at Catholic Answers. That's a badge I trot out once in a while, as I do now. On the other hand If I could ever get banned here, it would seem like it could be in association with my criticism of MY pope with whom the LDS are so enamored! Heh. So join my Church? No you won't. The kind of people that love Pope Francis will rarely convert to Catholicism!

My dear friend 3DOP I am one LDS who is not enamored with your pope.  I think he is probably a nice guy but nice guys can be wrong too.

I will open the thread briefly to explain.

90% of thread bans are because of name calling/squabbling. You might get away with it once if the rest of the post is on topic but when a thread degenerates into a series of back and forth spats it is easier for mods to get rid of the snipers than handle gobs of post reports. If you compare people or religions to criminals you will be thread banned. every mod has zero tolerance for labels like "apostate" or "you aren't a good Mormon" slams just like mean spirited attacks on Mormonism. Mods can't do anything about banned posters not being able to see why they are banned and nobody is going to take the time to email the offender.

When a poster won't stop turning topics in General Discussions into discussions about themselves/personal problems and ignore warnings they are put on limited. If they start too many chatty threads in General Discussions they are put on limited. If the first paragraph of a post is about yourself think carefully before putting it in General Discussions. If a poster consistently start threads to continue a fight or pick a fight or complain about the board/mods/posters they might be put on limited. No one is on limited unless they have exhausted the mods patience and good will and being allowed to post at all is a gift.

And for those who think the mods ignore "apostate" attacks, try reporting them first before making that assumption.

I think you have to save a mod's child from imminent death.

So one must perform the works of Abraham and save their child from the lion couch?

The Lion Couch was Abraham getting sacrificed so I guess you would have to do the work of the angel. I don't think you get limited status removed if you follow Abraham's example and take their child up a mountain and set up a sacrifice and then stop at the end.

Years ago our only options were to ban people from the board completely or suspend them from posting.  Thread bans and limited status are a nice alternative.

Yes, and I agree that it's a nice alternative, but it seems so odd for it to be a lifetime sentence.  I mean, there are active posters here who have been banned once and even twice who eventually got a reprieve, but I can't think of anyone who was once Limited and now is not.

Just sayin', because there are some excellent posters here who are Limited, and some jerks who are not.  I won't name names.

I am standing right here.

You and I are probably related.

Thank you. Makes sense.

I see that I am somehow banned from a thread here.  I have a general idea as to why but if so I think the ban was a bit undeserved.

I wonder if the other culprit has as similar ban from a thread.

Dear Mods.. how about when you ban someone from a thread you send us a PM to tell us what and why we were banned.

It seems odd for this to happen with no reason as to why.

This might help us in correcting our offending behavior.

Thank you.

Which thread was it?  I'll take a look and give you my take on it.

I have been banned from a few threads and for the most part they have been justified and I am trying to do better.  My only complaint is that the reason is given of why I am banned but I am completely locked out so I can't read the reason.  I wonder if its possible to ban people from commenting but still being allowed to read the thread so at the very least they know why they were banned.

Not possible!  All due respect to The Nehor, you are simply a cut above the general run of humanity.
