Stargazer Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I have been banned from a few threads and for the most part they have been justified and I am trying to do better. My only complaint is that the reason is given of why I am banned but I am completely locked out so I can't read the reason. I wonder if its possible to ban people from commenting but still being allowed to read the thread so at the very least they know why they were banned. I have never been thread-banned, ever. I don't know whether to be proud of being a good little netizen, or I'm just not "edgy" enough. I console myself with the thought that I might have gotten close without crossing the line, just barely. As you well know, Good Guys finish LAST. Well, maybe not the REALLY Good Guys. They get translated.

They aren't doing it on top of banning. Looks like it is a function of the given board format, like certain words being automatically censored or thread titles being punctuated a certain way.So they can't change it. Unless, I assume, they pay tons of money and make their own board with whatever rules they want. Given it is free to everyone and the board owner is paying for it out of his own pocket, it sounds like an unfortunate but here to stay aspect.

I'm a programmer, so naturally when you said this about making their own board -- software, I assume -- my geekness rose up in acclamation and wanted to get started right away. I had to beat it to a pulp before it would lay back down again. Stop pushing my buttons, Calm(oriah)!

I mean, there are active posters here who have been banned once and even twice who eventually got a reprieve, but I can't think of anyone who was once Limited and now is not. Just sayin', because there are some excellent posters here who are Limited, and some jerks who are not. I won't name names. When I was put on limited, californiakid had his limited status lifted. I think that he made a comment on the thread that I started about the procedure for contacting the mod to see why I was banned from the thread. That thread got me put on limited. The mod commented to him that he is a valued poster and the mod lifted his limited status. Those on limited are basically considered not that valuable to the board but did not commit offenses that would get them banned. But yea, it would be nice if limited would not be a lifetime sentence. The only way I can see it is if I view the thread as a guest on my son's laptop and hopefully I will get to my post before I reach the max on his laptop. So I have seen the reasons but it took extra effort. No big deal I guess

No big deal I guessYou might try just checking your content in your profile...I think it has at least ten posts per page, so you may be able to see multiple threads with one page view...though it will take 4 views to get to the only my posts page.The other possibility is to pair up with a banning buddy who looks for you when you are banned and the reverse. They get translated.Not long ago, I mentioned that i had never been thread-banned. Within a day thereafter, I find myself thread-banned. Maybe I was perceived as being too cocky. I don't know, of course, because I was locked out of the thread and couldn't see the post or the reason that it happened.
