Popular Post Teancum Posted September 22, 2015 Popular Post Posted September 22, 2015 I see that I am somehow banned from a thread here. I have a general idea as to why but if so I think the ban was a bit undeserved. I wonder if the other culprit has as similar ban from a thread. Dear Mods.. how about when you ban someone from a thread you send us a PM to tell us what and why we were banned. It seems odd for this to happen with no reason as to why. This might help us in correcting our offending behavior. Thank you. 5

Dear Mods.. how about when you ban someone from a thread you send us a PM to tell us what and why we were banned. It seems odd for this to happen with no reason as to why. This might help us in correcting our offending behavior. Thank you. I'm with Teancum on this. Un-notified thread banning merely frustrates people, and does nothing at all to modify behaviour. If a moderator takes action, they should announce what it's for. The "You know what you did" approach just doesn't work. Imagine if that was on your traffic ticket? 7
Teancum Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 It's just the way things work around here.Don't make any waves or else it's...No soup for you!!! Yes indeed Mr. Ahab. But I am always looking to improve. I really do like this message board and I do not want the boot over all. I have been restricted on a few threads here and there. Not a lot. But a few. Feedback is very important to me. I want to try to be a good boy.

strappinglad Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Come now Teancum, we all know what you did to deserve the corner chair. None of this " I'm not sure what I did " stuff. First of all, you got up this morning !
Calm Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) Seems to me like a good idea when wondering is to simply assume you spent too many posts on solely personal remarks. I am guessing that is the case for the most recent thread ban...the post that said "poster removed" in red was certainly a personal remark. Edited September 22, 2015 by Calm
Vance Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 It is frustrating getting banned without explanation. What is even more frustrating (at least for me) is not being able to see the thread any more. It is one thing to not be able to post in a thread any more, but to not be able to view it further is just . . . . well, . . . asinine. There, I said it. So go ahead and ban me. 1

If I am not banned from at least a thread every other week I begin to wonder if I am doing something wrong.
Thinking Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 1. Be respectful of the moderators. We don't expect you to agree with our decisions, but we do expect to be respected for the work we put into this board. Do not start threads to criticize moderators, complain about thread closures, or backtalk when we intervene. Furthermore, do not send us insulting, threatening, or taunting private messages. Just because no one else sees it doesn't mean we won't discipline you for such behavior. Last time I checked there was no fee to participate on this board. It is a privilege given to us by the owners of the website. Thank you mods for all your hard work. Signed, "A Once Banned (for about a week) Poster Who Learned His Lesson Without Having It Explained To Him" Post Note: If the mods started explaining every decision, pretty soon an appeals process would evolve and we don't want that on this board. 4
Calm Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 pretty soon an appeals process would evolve Having gone through that as a moderator on another board, you are so right about not wanting that. I grew to hate the job. 1

Signed, "A Once Banned (for about a week) Poster Who Learned His Lesson Without Having It Explained To Him" Post Note: If the mods started explaining every decision, pretty soon an appeals process would evolve and we don't want that on this board. That's a point. After all, most participants here are Americans, and litigation is your favourite indoor sport. Still and all, I can't see that it would kill anyone to just say something like "thread banned for violation of rule 2.1" or similar.
3DOP Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) A badge of pride to be banned? From here? From anything here? Never! Not me. I only get banned at Catholic Answers. That's a badge I trot out once in a while, as I do now. On the other hand If I could ever get banned here, it would seem like it could be in association with my criticism of MY pope with whom the LDS are so enamored! Heh. So join my Church? No you won't. The kind of people that love Pope Francis will rarely convert to Catholicism! Edited September 22, 2015 by 3DOP 3
Tacenda Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Having gone through that as a moderator on another board, you are so right about not wanting that. I grew to hate the job.Agree and think like referees, they may be in the wrong but we need to give them credit for their hard work and good calls all the other times! Speaking as one who's been banned from threads and banned for a week! Plus put on limited with no explanation. 1
hagoth7 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I'll add this. Thanks mods, for making this an extremely enjoyable and edifying forum. :0) 1
why me Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) I see that I am somehow banned from a thread here. Thank you.I think that was put on limited for more of less asking the same statement as you just did. I had no idea how to contact the mod, so I started a thread about it and I was put on limited. I believe that I am remembering this correctly. I find it strange that the 'punishments' can be arbitrary and perhaps personal. For example, mods do post on this board under screen names and if they do not like the posts of the poster, they may have personal feelings as mods toward that poster. However, as I said before, it is not an easy job to be a moderator. It is non-paid and since life is full of hard moments, even mods have bad days where their nerves of frayed from home life, church life, and work life. Not to mention other human life issues. And then they have to read at times mundane posts on this board with frayed nerves and so I tend to understand the human behind the mod. But woe be to the poster who crosses a mod on a bad day, no matter what board one posts on. Also, as can be seen from the responses, posters do attempt to praise the moderators in hope of getting on their good sides. Of course, I am an exception. <<< me laughing at myself. Thinking Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Also, as can be seen from the responses, posters do attempt to praise the moderators in hope of getting on their good sides. It couldn't be that we really respect the job that the mods do (even if we don't always agree), especially because we are happy that we don't have to moderate. Having gone through that as a moderator on another board, you are so right about not wanting that. I grew to hate the job. 1
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Hey I'm still trying to figure out why I was put on limited. I didn't do anything bad.

I am guessing that is the case for the most recent thread ban...the post that said "poster removed" in red was certainly a personal remark.I said I had a general idea but I am not sure it was deserved. Was the other offender removed as well since I cannot see it.Is it too much to ask for a note from a mod stating what the behavior was? We could spend all day sending notes to board members, which would only result in arguments about whether it was called for.
Teancum Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Take it as a badge of pride. If I am not banned from at least a thread every other week I begin to wonder if I am doing something wrong. You can be humorous Nehor.
Teancum Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Being a mod is tough. I do appreciate that.
rockpond Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 If you are wondering why you were thread banned, consider logging out of your account and viewing the thread as a guest. Then you can review what happened in the posts leading up to a banning. In my experience, it tends to be personal remarks/attacks, rude behavior, or refusal to provide a reasonable CFR. I don't think it's fair to ask the mods to explain bans because, as has been mentioned, most people would want to respond and defend themselves. It's just too much to ask of people who volunteer their time. 1
3DOP Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Hey I'm still trying to figure out why I was put on limited. I didn't do anything bad. Hey Video. We Catholics have what we call "the Confiteor"...or "I confess"... a daily remembrance of our misery insofar as we think we can please God without grace. It concerns not only what we have done, but "what I have failed to do"...I have avoided any sanctions now since 2004 as one who has as always presented myself as non-LDS. To whom more is given more is required? You are probably a priest? You have the covenants? Maybe they expect more out of you than some Gentile like me?

I don't think it's fair to ask the mods to explain bans because, as has been mentioned, most people would want to respond and defend themselves.
