Dehlin, Reel, And Other Do-Gooders Asking For Money To Do...good.

My daughter tells me they were labeled "toothpick holders."

Oh my.  I think someone in Wal-mart's purchasing group was having some fun.

What about CTR rings at Wal-Mart?

I see a CTR ring (which I wear, by the way) as a cultural icon, not a sacred object.

But you're tempting me into doing what I said I would not do. Stop it.

Is there a hard line between cultural icon and sacred object? What about the liahona?

I think it is all about the intent behind the use of sacred objects.  I have a general objection, for example, to using religious iconograhy as "decoration."  Like statues of Jesus or Buddha in the garden.

However, I think that if a person is tied to that religious iconography and chooses it to display that connection in a respectful way appropriate to the nature of the sacred object, that's a different story.

So a Christus statue, I think, is a great way for Christian families to show their faith in a respectful way.  A seer stone or even gold plate replicas -- if treated with the same respect -- could also be displayed.

Agreed. It's how it's used that matters more.

In this post, from the link I gave he says that he at least agrees mostly on every bullet point.

https://www.facebook.com/bill.reel.7/posts/10207223696733204

That post starts with this statement by Bill:  "I agree with each of these to some extent (these bullet points are from the article and not my exact view. I am an open book and I welcome anyone asking me my specific stance on any issue in my faith)..."

In the comments section he reiterated:  "I said in the intro I agree with these to an extent which is not blanket endorsement."

Heaven forbid that an active member of the church admit to not knowing everything and--gasp!--having doubts!

Or what about wearing or displaying a cross? I've been shocked to see how opposed many members are to the cross. You'd they they were vampires or demons  based on some reactions I've seen.

WEll, we do know he has publicly questioned every point in his podcasts and posts on these boards here. Its no debatable. We all know where he stands on certain issues like women and the priesthood, the BoM, the LGBT movement, etc..

Making a statement and saying "we all know" it's true is not an answer to a CFR. Besides, I would be surprised if you correctly identified his positions on female ordination, BoM and LGBT. You're making assumptions and can't provide evidence. Just admit you can't supply evidence and your opinion is uninformed.

It's already been pointed out that "we all know" is not an answer to a CFR.  So I'll just ask this again:

Which of Bill's podcasts have you listened to in their entirety and what in them do you find troubling?

Garlic works better for vampires, and I've heard flatulence works on demons. ;)

Personally I'm not big on any iconography, but if it floats someones boat more power to them.

My Buddhist wife asked me yesterday about the seer stone after she saw an article online about it.  She actually mentioned that it would make a pretty cool display piece.

We've already got a Sunstone and a Jupiter Talisman in my office.  I'd love a seer stone replica.

What about a Buddhist wife?  How do I get one of those?

I have you the CFR you asked for with a direct link. Your second question is not a CAR but I will answer it anyway. I have listened to several of his podcasts. The last one I listened to was his interview with Quinn.

What I find of interest Ius that you never hear him with a positive endorsement for the church and it's current teachings. Why do you think that is?

Bill, how does one measure intent?

I'm still trying to figure out your criteria for Priestcraft. I'll repost a post a while back that you may not have seen.

Say Bill's podcast didn't have any controversial subjects in it. It was just a podcast devoted to helping the downtrodden and those with feeble knees and he strengthened them by singing hymns, reading poetry, and posting funny cat pics. And he also asked for donations.

Is that okay?

Is it the content that makes you question whether Bill's podcast is priestcraft?

Is it the target audience combined with asking for money?

Is it the motive of the podcaster?

How can I join this anti-bill group? I mean, two threads in less than 3 days attacking Bill. If I get to join, I think the name of the group should be changed; two suggestions

Bill

Reel

Apostasy

Truth

Squad

or

BBill

Unorthodox

Teachings

Truth

Soldiers

Do

FAIRMORMON,

Interpreter:A Journal of Mormon Scripture,

Meridian Magazine,

and all the missionary themed stores in Utah

count as "asking for money to do...good".

Personally, I would have no desire to join an anti-anything group but some people on this board may be interested ;)
