Duncan Posted April 29, 2015 Author Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) When I was reading this I was reminded of an experience I had in the Chicago Airport when I was going on my mission. I was there and saw another clean cut young guy in a suit surrounded by family and I thought he was also leaving on his mission. Well, I talked to him briefly after his family left and turned out he wasn't going on a mission, wasn't even LDS but he was going into FBI training Edited April 29, 2015 by Duncan

Part of it is probably just basic tribal recognition of those like you but there is probably a spiritual element involved for some. I can do it sometimes and I know people who are much better at it. That said I am not convinced that this study is worth much.Before I joined the church, I became aware of individuals who seemed "different" in the same strange way I could not define One was a printer with whom I did business, another was a supermarket checker, another was a garage mechanic.After I got baptised, I went to my first Stake conference, and they were all there.This was in LA, where the percentage of Mormons is very small.I don't think it was their skin tone.

Garden Girl Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 One time I was out and about and stopped in to Burger King for a quick lunch... this family came in and sat at the table next to me... husband, wife, and I think four children... I was struck by their "look" so observed them... the dad went to order, mom was getting utensils, older kids helping younger... they were dressed neatly, hair combed, etc etc. Mom came back... in beach type clothing, but nice, hair nicely styled... I noticed how they treated each other... and said to mom... excuse me, are you LDS... she looked surprised and said... why, yes we are... I told her I could tell... we started talking like we were old friends. when I got up to leave they all said good bye warmly. They glowed... GG 2

My Mormondar has gotten pretty good over the years, but for me particularly I think it has more to do with how we generally tend to look alike in dress and the overall clean-cut look. Summertime my Mormondar kicks into high gear because what other women wear knee shorts and capped sleeve shirts in 90 plus degree weather? 1

I find that's true especially for the women. Their is definitely such a thing as 'utah hair', though of course not girl from Utah styles her hair in that way. 2

But I find that's true for a number of states. 1
