What Are Your Motives?

I get a kick out of talking to people half way around or the other side of the world. Funny thing is, it's hard to tell really where someone is from, we all pretty much speak the same language. Add to that, talking to scholars and famous Mormon apologists, and not as a critic! I don't think I'd have that opportunity on any other board. I feel sorry for those that complain about this board and stay away from it or were banned. They are truly missing out. They don't understand I guess, that we talk about anti Mormon things all the time but since we're disagreeing it's not one-sided like the ex Mormon boards. It's really a unique board, and can't think of another like it! My favorite is that since it's anonymous we really don't hold back much and talk more than what the weather's like, etc.

Funnily enough if someone here invited me over for a BBQ I wouldn't say no! unless they served corn or ham or something, I hate those things

An old man, going a lone highway,

Came at the evening, cold and gray,

To a chasm, vast and deep and wide,

Through which was flowing a sullen tide.

The old man crossed in the twilight dim;

The sullen stream had no fears for him;

But he turned when safe on the other side

And built a bridge to span the tide.

“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,

“You are wasting strength with building here;

Your journey will end with the ending day;

You never again must pass this way;

You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide—

Why build you the bridge at the eventide?”

The builder lifted his old gray head:

“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,

“There followeth after me today

A youth whose feet must pass this way.

This chasm that has been naught to me

To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.

He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;

Good friend, I am building the bridge for him.”

Wait, so you are hoping that these forums will be archived and one day children will read them for their wisdom and guidance?

Because I have a weird understanding of the gospel that I want to share, which will make for stronger members, and because it is just so dang much fun to show the anti's how stupid they are

At the end of the day I admit that regardless of poorly I live my life I remain a Latter-day Saint.  I find a great deal of enjoyment talking about gospel related topics.  I also enjoy drawing lines to those beliefs that connect us to all those who follow after Christ.

I prefer not to think about it

I'm here because writing and debating helps me to draw out beliefs during my faith transition. I want my bad assumptions and logic to be challenged so I can weed them out.

Also, it's fun. I enjoy hearing different perspectives and experiences.

Great thread,CCRW.  You seem to have brought something to this forum that is nice.  I haven't participated in the "Who Are You?" thread in the social hall, but I've read through it and it's a fun idea too.

Why am I here?  I found this forum doing a search for some different issues that I was struggling with.  I found that there were intelligent people discussing these issues here on both "sides".  I feel that it's even more balanced here now.

Like others stated, I can ask questions and discuss things on this forum that aren't welcomed (yet) at church.

There's nothing good on Netflix anymore.

More seriously, I started here because I began to have a lot of history/doctrine questions. While there is a lot of garbage to wade through, I found, and still find, there is a lot of helpful information here. More recently, though, I find that I come here just to keep up on "mormon news." I imagine a lot of others have this same purpose. When something big is happening (OW, church essays, etc.) there are a lot more participants. When nothings happening and its just re-runs, people tend to move elsewhere. If my theory is correct, I would expect an uptick in activity when SCOTUS hears the gay marriage cases next week. I'm sure the mods are thrilled.

Edit to add: who am I kidding, I'm really just here for the rep points. And grammer lessons from Scott.

I've always been interested in theology and i find LDS perspectives (the full range of them) to be one of the more interesting systems of belief.

hmmm, looking around the room, who are we missing?

Me.

Entertainment and to learn a thing or 2 and to possible teach some one something they didn't know. On occasion, defend the faith.

Thanks Mola, our first stated defender (I think, and nothing wrong with that).  I hope to get to know you better over time.

No I’m not, yes you are, no I’m not, yes you are, no I’m not, yes you are ...

Who dares post up the truth about their motives of being here?

Primarily to be part of a broader effort to keep the playing field level for the gospel and Church of Jesus Christ by exposing and countering where I can the speciousness of antagonistic argumentation or assertions.

Are you open to spelling reminders as well? (grammar, not grammer)
