Tacenda Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I get a kick out of talking to people half way around or the other side of the world. Funny thing is, it's hard to tell really where someone is from, we all pretty much speak the same language. Add to that, talking to scholars and famous Mormon apologists, and not as a critic! I don't think I'd have that opportunity on any other board. I feel sorry for those that complain about this board and stay away from it or were banned. They are truly missing out. They don't understand I guess, that we talk about anti Mormon things all the time but since we're disagreeing it's not one-sided like the ex Mormon boards. It's really a unique board, and can't think of another like it! My favorite is that since it's anonymous we really don't hold back much and talk more than what the weather's like, etc. 1
Duncan Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) Funnily enough if someone here invited me over for a BBQ I wouldn't say no! unless they served corn or ham or something, I hate those things Edited April 24, 2015 by Duncan
The Nehor Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 An old man, going a lone highway,Came at the evening, cold and gray,To a chasm, vast and deep and wide,Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim;The sullen stream had no fears for him;But he turned when safe on the other sideAnd built a bridge to span the tide.“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near,“You are wasting strength with building here;Your journey will end with the ending day;You never again must pass this way;You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide—Why build you the bridge at the eventide?”The builder lifted his old gray head:“Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,“There followeth after me todayA youth whose feet must pass this way. This chasm that has been naught to meTo that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;Good friend, I am building the bridge for him.” https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2003/10/the-bridge-builder?lang=engWait, so you are hoping that these forums will be archived and one day children will read them for their wisdom and guidance?

Popular Post Garden Girl Posted April 24, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2015 I started posting in Nov 2005 as a 65-year old widow... alone... no children... I can't even remember how I found the old FAIR site... which eventually separated out this Board. Now, here it is 2015, I'm 74, still alone, still posting... the proverbial old woman who lives with her pushy cat named Bob in the wilds of the central Oregon coast...I'd say this board keeps me thoughtful... connected intellectually, spiritually, and socially (I've made some really nice friends that I care about). Most mornings I will come in here to my studio where the computer is... log on... saying to myself, Wonder what the kids are up to today... I've enjoyed (mostly) what others have to say, and have my favorites... I'll probably continue posting here.. I told my sister (who lives in the mid-west, that if anything happens to me to post a message)... I'd hate to think that if I disappeared no one would say, What ever happened to GG? from the beach... mfbukowski Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Because I have a weird understanding of the gospel that I want to share, which will make for stronger members, and because it is just so dang much fun to show the anti's how stupid they are
Storm Rider Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 At the end of the day I admit that regardless of poorly I live my life I remain a Latter-day Saint. I find a great deal of enjoyment talking about gospel related topics. I also enjoy drawing lines to those beliefs that connect us to all those who follow after Christ.
mfbukowski Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Wait, so you are hoping that these forums will be archived and one day children will read them for their wisdom and guidance?I prefer not to think about it
HappyJackWagon Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I'm here because writing and debating helps me to draw out beliefs during my faith transition. I want my bad assumptions and logic to be challenged so I can weed them out. Also, it's fun. I enjoy hearing different perspectives and experiences.
Traela Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I want to learn stuff without having to wade through long, scholarly tomes.

ALarson Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Great thread,CCRW. You seem to have brought something to this forum that is nice. I haven't participated in the "Who Are You?" thread in the social hall, but I've read through it and it's a fun idea too. Why am I here? I found this forum doing a search for some different issues that I was struggling with. I found that there were intelligent people discussing these issues here on both "sides". I feel that it's even more balanced here now. Like others stated, I can ask questions and discuss things on this forum that aren't welcomed (yet) at church.
Gray Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I'm here because this is by far and away the most interesting Mormon-themed discussion board I've found.
omni Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 My motives? I am mostly here for the entertainment, but I am also here to learn.+1
CCRW Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 hmmm, looking around the room, who are we missing? 1
Buckeye Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) There's nothing good on Netflix anymore. More seriously, I started here because I began to have a lot of history/doctrine questions. While there is a lot of garbage to wade through, I found, and still find, there is a lot of helpful information here. More recently, though, I find that I come here just to keep up on "mormon news." I imagine a lot of others have this same purpose. When something big is happening (OW, church essays, etc.) there are a lot more participants. When nothings happening and its just re-runs, people tend to move elsewhere. If my theory is correct, I would expect an uptick in activity when SCOTUS hears the gay marriage cases next week. I'm sure the mods are thrilled. Edit to add: who am I kidding, I'm really just here for the rep points. And grammer lessons from Scott. Edited April 24, 2015 by Buckeye 3
Hillel2 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I've always been interested in theology and i find LDS perspectives (the full range of them) to be one of the more interesting systems of belief.
Popular Post Maestrophil Posted April 24, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2015 Back several years ago when I had many close family members leave the church and become hostile with me for remaining a member, I came here seeking, and found, solace, wisdom and empathy beyond what I was able to find in my ward (and the fact that I could express myself in some anonymity). I also have come here and found succor during my divorce and other various trying times for my faith. I have been able to be there for people in similar circumstances here, and it feels good to pay back by helping someone who may just need a listening ear and an understanding heart. Plus, the multiple insights and approaches to the gospel here stretch my understanding and preconceptions - and I like that! 5
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 hmmm, looking around the room, who are we missing?Me. Entertainment and to learn a thing or 2 and to possible teach some one something they didn't know. On occasion, defend the faith.
CCRW Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) Thanks Mola, our first stated defender (I think, and nothing wrong with that). I hope to get to know you better over time. Edited April 24, 2015 by CCRW
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I had a re-jolt in faith and found this place as the best Mormon message board on the internet.
Scott Lloyd Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 No I’m not, yes you are, no I’m not, yes you are, no I’m not, yes you are ... Who dares post up the truth about their motives of being here?Primarily to be part of a broader effort to keep the playing field level for the gospel and Church of Jesus Christ by exposing and countering where I can the speciousness of antagonistic argumentation or assertions.
