"the Carthage Conspiracy"- Joseph M. Smith

Seriously?

You're claiming that Emma, Joseph Smith III, Alexander, David, and all the rest say he practiced polygamy. This I have got to see! CFR

My apologies if I implied that Emma, Joseph III, Alexander etc acknowledged polygamy publicly.  Of course they never did.

However his sisters-in-law (married to Hyrum and William) acknowledged it.  So did his nephew Joseph F. Smith.

Not to mention the affidavits from his other wives (I see no reason that the deathbed denial of one wife published by her son should be given any more credence than the numerous affidavits from his other wives published a decade earlier).

So, no, I can't prove that Emma or her children acknowledged his polygamy after the martyrdom.

But the simple fact is there are more people in his extend family that do than there are that don't.

Just to clarify, you would be interested in the above requested CFR or what it would take for Alan to believe Joseph Smith was a polygamist?

The CFR...

How would the ballistics or caliber of the weapons factor it? Do we have the caliber of all the weapons the mob had brought? Did CSI make an examination of the murder?

Latest TV show...

CSI: Nauvoo....

Don't really see it catching on. Cold Case Nauvoo might be a better title now I think of it. Or Very Cold Justice.

No he didn't.

Why didn't you inform us sooner? This whole time, I thought he did.

There goes the church again trying to mislead people about our history!  Nice attempt church, by writing a cunning essay that Joseph married a 14 year old girl and other men's wives that Emma did not know about.  They almost had us fooled.  Now when people find out that Joseph was really a monogamist who kept nothing from his wife, they will never join our church!

Actually both Alan And MRSR are correct. Joseph practiced polygamy through the first 5 or 6 wives. After that he didn't need any more practice, he had the program down pat.

Hello Alan, it has been many, many moons since I studied this and my memory is not what it once was.  My Uncle and Aunt are members of the Community of Christ and we talk often.

I thought that JS III toward the end of his life actually acknowledged the possibility that his father practiced polygamy.  In addition, that Emma knew of some of the sealings/marriages of Joseph to other women. I know that she made conflicting statements; does that pose any problems in your view?

How do you handle the witness of women involved and their family members that wrote of the marriages/sealings of their daughter or family member to Joseph?

Do you think the critics of the Church, or those that are more neutral, that have researched this topic are just wrong or how exactly do you discount what they say?

On another note, do you think the practice of polygamy by men of God was wrong?  Is the practice always wrong or is it sometimes acceptable to God?  Can polygamy be practiced by righteous people?

Funny, thought I had.   ;)

Just to set the record straight, my position is that Joseph was sealed to a number of people, but married only to Emma.

I'd still like to know how Brigham arranged all this on his mission. Did he have a sat phone with John Taylor and promise him he could be the prophet after him or something?

Oh Brigham and John didn't get along. That would be some conspiracy for them to collude despite differences.
