The Apostle Peter believed the Apostle Paul's pastoral letters to be scripture.

2 Peter 3:15-16. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

I see no reason why the other letters, Revelation, and the gospels should not be considered scripture. Those documents were recognized as scripture by the church long before a formal church canon of scripture was written down.

So the "Christian Gospel " as understood by  "Calvinists" is the one True Gospel ?. What Church Denomination do you worship GOD In ?.

Because of where I am at, a traditional Presbyterian church is not nearby, so I worship at a local conservative Baptist church.

I am a former Methodist/Fundamentalist Independant Baptist. You did not answer my first question by the way in post # 2299.

So which Bible and which interpretation?  How is one to know?  Again I reiterate it is all in interpretations and choices.

By which Bible, do you mean which Bible version? When possible, the original Greek and Hebrew documents should be used. We do not have the autographs of scripture, but we do have a pretty good idea of what was in those autographs.

With respect to English translations? There is not a great deal of difference between what is considered to be the most theological liberal modern translation of the Bible (Revised Standard Version), the most theologically conservative modern translation of the Bible (New King James Version), and most traditional version (King James Version). You can compare the versions online for free.

Revised Standard Version:

New King James Version:

Yes, I am a five point Calvinist. If you request, I will describe the five points of Calvinism (TULIP) along with scripture proof texts.

The authority of the Holy Scripture, for which it ought to be believed, and obeyed, dependeth not upon the testimony of any man, or church; but wholly upon God (who is truth itself) the author thereof: and therefore it is to be received, because it is the Word of God. -- WCF 1:42 Pet. 1:19–20. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.2 Tim. 3:16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.1 John 5:9. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.1 Thess. 2:13. For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.Rev. 1:1–2. The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

An appeal to authority.

A priori assumptions.

More proof texting,

Why should I trust the interpretation of the WCF? It is man made and holds no authority other than what someone chooses to give it,

Irrational: Not rational; unfounded or nonsensical.http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/irrationalNo, sorry. In spite of the fact that I have backed almost everything that I have said with Biblical proof texts, you have described what is perfectly rational as irrational. So much for the Bible then as far as the LDS are concerned.

You appeal to the Bible and base your own interpretation. As noted much can be "proven " when one proof texts. It is a silly game.

You appeal to it as authority and assume it really is what it internally claims...the pure and perfect word of God. You cannot prove that other than your own personal testimony. The book in internally inconsistent. But there is no evidence it is the perfect word of God other than what it claims for itself.

I am not defending LDS belief. I told you I take issue with much of that as well.

I am criticizing your Calvinist views which I utterly reject. I lean towards Christianity because I hope it is true. I do not know it. I struggle with faith issues. But I hope But I could never accept the Cavinist view as from God or biblical. I am a skeptic but a seeker.

I also take exception with much of the inaccurate charecture your paint of Mormonism.

The Apostle Peter likely did not write 2 Peter. Someone claiming to be Peter did.

Are you even familiar with how the Bible came to be?

It is interesting to note that that I have read in the past that certain Christian communities in the Anchient middle Eastern world [ Post N.T era] had different sets of scripture than other Christian communities and that arguments arose as to what was scripture and what was not . Athanasious in 367 gave a list that he believed was scripture but not until 390 A.D was a 'Official" Canon recognized. Even today not all Christians use the same scriptures. In practice thr Canon is closed but in Theory it is still open.

You do realize these sites you link to also teach against LDS beliefs, though this one appears to be much more respectful, don't you?

There is a reason why you won't find such things on lds.org and perhaps that is an example we should follow.

calmoriah thank you for the comcern/heads up. I found 2 brief mentions concerning LDS while doing a search on the last site I referred to. I just wanted to show a Christlike response to 5 point calvinism from a non LDS Christian. May True Grace be with you.

Yes, an appeal to the authority of the Bible. I was under the impression that the LDS believe in the Bible. Am I wrong?
