  1. I do! It always cracks me up when you are watching a show on tv and have the "caption" option on and some music is playing and the caption says "Scary music" or something like that- while to me the music has nothing whatsoever to do with being "scary" We have been trained by watching other movies etc that certain music is "scary" and other music might be "peaceful" It is a perfect parallel for what language is- somehow we turn squiggles on a page into the "greatest ideas" when all someone else sees only the squiggles. I think a lot of that goes on here. 😜 At least the Catholics know a "mystery" when they see one, while we are making fun of all we see: squiggles. 😱 This stuff ain't SUPPOSED to be science!
  2. Today we look through a DARK MIRROR - meaning the world as we PERCEIVE it through our senses and brains.- "but then face to face" (ie: things as they are) What does that mean? The world as we see it now is not what we will see later BECAUSE of the mirrors of our perception. Mirror because all we can know is what OUR BRAIN tells us. We don't know "reality"- we only know what our brains tell us is "real" Think about it- ALL we can know about "reality" is LIMITED by our perception! What color is a red car in moonlight? How do you describe how music moves the heart - to a deaf person who has never heard music? For us, if we cannot perceive it- it is not "real"! Google the words "Mary's Room" and you will find an interesting puzzle right up your alley! What we see NOW is what is NOT REAL- but what works for us to get things done.
  3. UH, I guess you have never been in a Catholic church. That's ok- I was stunned by the lack of art in LDS chapels, and other representations of sacred events. Catholics figured that out forever ago when it comes to the kneeling gizmos. Unfortunately we have not figured it out yet. It would be nice to be able to have at least a section of a chapel with these gizmos so that we could stop by an open church building and actually kneel to pray. But of course our chapels cannot be open 24-7, without having a full-time professional clergy. It's pretty amazing how doctrine can change architecture. And while we are in our imaginary church, it would be nice to have a little booth somewhere where one could talk to a "clergy-person" anonymously in a little booth during reasonable hours. Hmmm... 🤔
  4. 1 foot in width fits 'em all.... in one VERY long pew!
  5. You can lead a horse to water but.... The object is to get them to even WANT to drink- and that is the problem. We need to follow President Nelson and drop the "Mormon" view and find truth in our hearts, and follow Christ in our hearts Instead of repeating "I know the church is true" without being able to DEFINE what the word "truth" means. IF we want to be able to receive personal revelation- Moroni 10:4. and many others like it- we must learn that God reveals what he wants to all of us. That means you may have YOUR "Truth" of what the church teaches and I have mine- then let those spirits guide us! That means we must become Post Mormon Post Modernists! Folks that is the only way it works!! WE must allow GOD to tell us what is right and wrong so we can tell us OUR PURPOSE which God wants us to follow! Pres. Nelson is our prophet- we need to follow his constant teaching that we must need our OWN TESTIMONIES, and follow the feelings of our hearts.
  6. Not sure how it would "require the removal of pews" Unless you made a separation between where the people sat and the "sanctuary" - where all would go and kneel - the way the Catholics do. What I like about the Catholic solution is that the separation between the people and the Priest representing Christ- is that - I believe- it can also be seen as a representation of our temple veil - and where the priest used to hold his arm OUT SIDE of the sacred space (heaven) into the "secular" space to distribute symbolically the "Body of Christ"- which is what The Eucharist IS in Catholic belief. So symbolically we have Christ reaching out to us from his Kingdom ( behind the veil / communion rail) and embracing us - in our temple too! .Symbolically it the same thing the Catholics do- the Catholics in church, and us in the temple- but of course the exact doctrine of what the two churches see into the ceremony differs greatly. For the Catholics - they are physically receiving the physical Body of Christ- and for us, WE are symbolically entering His kingdom with him. One shows us entering His Kingdom with an embrace- the other reveals Him entering our hearts and bodies, as He becomes us and we become a part of him.
  7. And that exact gesture is used- or at least was- used by the priest in a Catholic mass. I was an altar boy for years and I remember it all-before AND after Vatican II There are MANY parallels between the two liturgies- so who got it "right"? Before one has a vocabulary, there is nothing to talk about. 🤨
  8. Look out folks! You might start thinking like me!!
  9. What we do not often realize is that everything we know is revelation. The world presents itself to us, and we create those signals and chemical changes in our brains and WE interpret them- so even science itself is "revelation". Our brains create our realities and so as mini gods we create our own worlds. THIS is part of a movement - Empirical Religion-that sees every personal experience we have is a revelation of sorts- it is the world presenting itself to us- and we create its meaning for us.
  10. I always suspected you were an apostate! Dr. Pepper is the one true cola! 😡
  11. EAT THEM ASHES! 🥶 😜
  12. Good point- not that you are old but it definitely splits those who can read music from those who do not. I try to read it but have never been trained in it, so I am aware of it.
  13. The Sunday School Class President is supposed to be holding those once every quarter - for teachers - while others are in Priesthood and Relief Society meetings. I have never been in a ward that actually does that, in my experience, though, but I might have just not been aware of that. You can look it up in the section of the Handbook that deals with the responsibilities of the Sunday School President.
  14. Hmmm-yeah but City Hall has to be up there too along with a few others. That round, tallest building in downtown whatever it is- 🤨 has to be "up there" too. If someone presented big city skylines and you wanted to identify them, I always find LA easily. I mean it is something you can literally navigate by- are you east or west, north or south of downtown? Easy! Where's that big round thing? Downtown Century City PLUS downtown- note "round thing" in distance. Century City is west of downtown, So was the photo made at sunset or sunrise? Today's puzzle, for all of you who are puzzle freaks! Incidentally the temple is between downtown and century city - and invisible here! (Round Thing is US Bank Bldg.)
