mfbukowski Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) So God thinks about sex every 15 minutes like men are said to do? You seem to be forgetting that we do not believe that resurrected beings have blood. Hormones require blood. "Passions" are hormone based. Nor is insemination or child bearing possible without blood. There is no support beyond wishful thinking that is really all about the passion part. The evidence is far greater that God, which includes mother and father, create through word. Through the Word, all things were created. God "called" the light "day" and the dark he "called" the "night". Words define our realities. I agree about the passions- I think that the joys of reason, of contemplating God and feeling him cannot be properly understood as "passions". How we define them is important. Yet we have the "God who cries", the God who retreated to some dark corner of the Universe because he was unable to witness the sacrifice of his Son. I have struggled with this. Can we have it both ways? I think we can speak of God having "passions" in a figurative way but perhaps that word does not capture it. Have you ever had a spiritual experience where you felt a unity with the universe? Where the Unity was all that mattered, beyond the rational, beyond passions, beyond petty concerns about pain and death, but just seeing it as all part of the Glorious Plan bigger than all of us combined and itself part of the mind of God himself? Looking up at the stars sometimes comes close to it. What do our petty little problems have to do with the grandeur we experience? To me, that kind of bridges the gap between how I see God with his "passions"- he is beyond petty passion and even tears, yet profoundly loves and understands even the sparrow who falls. The key is seeing it all as part of the Plan. To see only passions is to see it as personal, as the concerns of one little being, but it is much larger than that. Does that make any sense? Ahab Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Not speculative as far as how humans reproduce, but definitely speculative as to how any reproduction will take place after this life.We know enough about how resurrected people are to know what we/they will have to work with. You seem to think we're in the dark on this as much as some other Christians, but we've been told enough to have a basic understanding.

That is what this thread reminds me of. Quite an odd way of seeing the greatness of God
changed Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 The only reason given in the scriptures for polygamy is "to raise up seed". Any other reason beyond "to raise up seed" is non-scriptural speculation. People who think polygamy is no big deal, that monogamy is over-rated etc. are not understanding the huge sacrifices that went into Jesus being born of the virgin handmaid Mary.
mfbukowski Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 If the idea of resurrected people having passions seems like wishful thinking to you how about just considering the idea of them having feelings and desires to show love through affection, at least in regards to husbands and wives?I know we won't have blood coursing through our veins then, and we may not even have veins anymore, but I'm totally sure that I will still love my wife and want to be affectionate with her, so there would still be something in me that would stir my emotions for her and bring us together if or when she felt the same way with her feelinga for me.The idea of everything being strictly vocal and intellectual with no outward signs of affection between husbands and wives is an idea conjured up by deluded dim wits with no better idea of how Mommies and Daddies will continue to produce offspring when they are resurrected. To be "together" there has to be two. If we get there, we will already be One. No need for "together" That's the purpose we have here in this life and the challenge: to become One as Christ is One with the church. 1

We are told in the scriptures how we "become" children of God - it is through baptism. Baptism is our birth, our covenants are what create the bond. It is not through the fallen/cursed pregnancy route. 7 And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters. We become children through covenants - through words. 1

Popular Post The Nehor Posted November 4, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 4, 2015 I do know that it will involve a lot more than a vocal command. Foreplay is very important. Really, though, this issue isn't a mystery to me, or to my wife either. The product is a little different at the first stage of production, but what we'll be getting will still come from my wife and me... and everyone else who will then have made us what we have always been at one stage or another.Thank you for sharing with the whole class.....never do it again. 6

Please produce scripture as compelling as God creating animals with "he said...." and then Adam by forming him out of the dirt as evidence that creation can only happen through sex. 1
VideoGameJunkie Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 I hope the joys and love we feel in heaven are far beyond imagination any feeling we can get from a powerful drug or pleasure on earth. If that's the case then it won't matter what the process is of creating spirit children in heaven since we will be experiencing so much joy and happiness beyond our mortal comprehension.
JAHS Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 If we are to have spirit children in the same way our Heavenly Father did, according to past leaders God (and some how together with his wife) took eternally existing intelligences and organized them into spirits. At present we have no idea how it is done. Spencer W. Kimball wrote, "Our spirit matter was eternal and co-existent with God, but it was organized into spirit bodies by our Heavenly Father" (The Miracle of Forgiveness, p. 5, Salt Lake City, 1969) Marion G. Romney, of the First Presidency, speaking of people's divine origin as children of God, stated, "Through that birth process, self-existing intelligence was organized into individual spirit beings" (Ensign 8 [Nov. 1978]:14) This organization of intelligences into spirit beings doesn't sound like it was done in the same way as we create the bodies for these spirits in mortality. 1

VideoGameJunkie Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 Is it possible celestial couples express love in different ways than humans like sending love power through telepathy and connecting on a higher power than mortals?
Ahab Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 We do? What do we know about resurrected people and the creation or organization of spirit children? You probably know more than me but I don't remember ever seeing celestial procreation taught. Where can I read about this?Start with what we know about what resurrected people are, what they basically look like compared to before they were resurrected, including the body parts they (still) have and whether or not they (still) have feelings/emotions, and then realize that you and your spouse will be one of them someday, resurrected people yourselves. Now think about whether or not you will ever have sexual relations with your spouse again.Yes, you can decide that now, in advance. Now think about what would come from that, if you both did it long enough and "correctly".You don't really mean to tell me that you will be surprised, do you? Grown adults still trying to figure out where babies come from, and not figuring it out correctly, is entertaining, to say the least.
JLHPROF Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Is it possible celestial couples express love in different ways than humans like sending love power through telepathy and connecting on a higher power than mortals? Anything is possible. We just don't know. I personally think something akin to telepathy (ie spiritual joining) is very likely. But I still believe what Brigham Young taught:"[God] created man, as we create our children; for there is no other process of creation in heaven, on the earth, in the earth, or under the earth, or in all the eternities, that is, that were, or that ever will be."

Zakuska Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) Again... a pretty erotic poem about the creation of the earth and man kind... Proverbs 822 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. 24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: 26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.5 6 27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:7 28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: 30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. The word "habitable" there can also be translated as "fertile" so It can be read that God has a "body made of earth with a fertile body part" that Wisdom really likes. This also is a good scripture of Mans pre-existance with God before the earth was created, who are these "sons of men" who Lady Wisdom "delighted in daily" before the earth was even formed, other than Gods spiritual offspring who sang with the stars of heaven in the book of Job? Also remember... Luke claims Adam was the literal offspring of Diety. Luke 3 38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God. There are also images of pregnant women in heaven. Rev 12 1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:1 2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. MiserereNobis Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Wowsers. I'd like to point out that threads like these highlight some of the major differences between the LDS view of God and the Christian view of God. I know it is a speculative thread and that Ahab doesn't represent the mainstream view on this thread, but the fact that there is a discussion going on about whether or not God will have sex with his multiple wives is mind-blowing to me. You have to realize that the most basic foundations to this discussion are so far far far away from how mainstream Christians view God. It would never occur to a mainstream Christian to think about God have sex and making babies in heaven. Ahab, you serve the anti-Mormons well as being an example of what they say about the LDS view of God and heaven. Also, Ahab, didn't you once post that in heaven there will be dishwashing and laundry? I remember something about it a long time ago...
JLHPROF Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 the fact that there is a discussion going on about whether or not God will have sex with his multiple wives is mind-blowing to me. You have to realize that the most basic foundations to this discussion are so far far far away from how mainstream Christians view God. It would never occur to a mainstream Christian to think about God have sex and making babies in heaven. Well of course it's different. Mormons believe God to be an exalted human, raised to that stature by following his God in an endless chain of Gods back through eternity. And that we believe we have to potential to achieve the same station because God is our actual parent and we are in his image and are going through what he went through - mortality.Or at least I believe it. Sometimes I wonder if we still believe this as a Church. Most other Christian religions have no more concept of the nature of God than being some kindly supernatural being that has always existed and will always exist and who decided to make human beings out of thin air and provide for their immortality by sending part of himself to a temporal planet in another form for no apparent reason just this once.I could never worship such a random, incomprehensible being, but to each their own. Sometimes I wonder which of our faiths is the most like science fiction and which is the most like magical fantasy...
