VideoGameJunkie Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I ask because my uncle was sealed to his first wife, she died, then he got sealed to a 2nd wife. Will he be with both women in heaven? And will Joseph Smith and Brigham Young be with all the women they were sealed to? Will we get sealed to more people in heaven?
Calm Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) I don't think we know for sure since all sealings have to be confirmed by the Spirit as well as the participants and it may be that given the option polygyny is not something that individuals want to live eternally.Otoh, given the perfect natures of those involved the mortal problems of polygyny and polyandry wouldn't exist. If the justification for polygyny is that a man shouldn't have to choose between two or more women he loved and committed to, then it makes sense to me given that we are now sealing women to multiple men, that a woman won't have to choose between men she loved either. Biz Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) In LDS Doctrine there is no question that polygamy/polygyny will exist if you're sealed to more one than spouse (male to one or more females). I would say Polyandry is speculative and whether or not we get sealed to more people in heaven is certainly a matter of speculation. Edited April 3, 2014 by Biz
Coreyb Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) I believe that the reason Hyrum Smith accepted polygamy was that he realized that it meant he could be sealed to his late wife as well as his current wife, or at least that's the story Edited April 3, 2014 by Coreyb
The Nehor Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Yes, how widespread it will be is a matter of debate. If all women are as wonderful as we are told in Priesthood Session I am guessing a 1 male to 250 female ratio. 2
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 1 male to 250 female ratio would be insane, but I guess there's no jealousy in heaven.
JAHS Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 What are the odds that there will be exactly the same number of women as men who are worthy to be exalted?
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 I assume there will be more worthy women. That is why I think polygamy has a chance of existing. Women always seem to be more worthy.
Rivers Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I like to think that everybody will be sealed to everybody in one giant family. 1
JAHS Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I like to think that everybody will be sealed to everybody in one giant family. Right. We are all sealed into the patriarchal order of families. So we will all be sealed into one big happy family in the Celestial Kingdom. However, there is still the issue of having eternal increase as those who become gods eventually create their own universes and spirit children to populate those worlds. That I would assume would require a husband and wife situation. 1

JLHPROF Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Of course there will be polygamy in heaven. We believe in eternal marriage don't we? And weren't many men sealed for eternity to multiple wives? Yep, I can imagine getting to go to a fireside given by old Father Abraham and there are Sarah, Hagar, Keturah and his other wives sitting there with him. Or Father Israel and his 4 wives.Or perhaps getting seeing the Prophet Joseph Smith walking down the streets of gold for an evening stroll with Emma on one arm and Eliza R. Snow on the other. Or attending a worship service and seeing President Howard W. Hunter seated in a pew with his wives on either side. Oh yes, plural marriage is a very real thing in heaven (at least in Mormon theology).

thesometimesaint Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Hmm... .. I wonder if Emma and Eliza would get along there? You'll have to ask them. But I don't believe there is much, if any enmity, in the Celestial Kingdom. 2
BlueDreams Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) In LDS Doctrine there is no question that polygamy/polygyny will exist if you're sealed to more one than spouse (male to one or more females). I would say Polyandry is speculative and whether or not we get sealed to more people in heaven is certainly a matter of speculation. No more speculative than what's being stated here on this thread. The sealing ordinance being done for women and their male counterpart(s) have just as a legitimate claim as men sealed to multiple wives. There isn't anything to indicate that their sealing ordinances are somehow more or less binding than the men's but our own assumption of what's ok to the Lord and His order. I assume there will be more worthy women. That is why I think polygamy has a chance of existing. Women always seem to be more worthy. This fits well with similar ideals that continue to put women up on pedestals. We are not, cumulatively, more or less righteous than men. Some of our sins/faults are just less prominent at times. Plus even if you were going to assume that adult females are more righteous, more male children die before they reach the age of accountability. So that's a good load of bachelors who'd probably like the full blessings that God can give. The point is that speculating how many of either gender is useless and assuming that polygamy would obviously have to be necessary because of this speculated disparity is short sighted. I have no idea of what the make up of heaven will look like, both in gender as well as marital arrangements. Both polygamy and polyandry have been necessary exceptional cases...one just more prominently done....but both equally receiving the sealing ordinances. If I were to guess, based on what the Lord points to in scripture and set up from the beginning, the vast majority will be marriages of a male and a female. I trust the Lord to figure out the rest in perfect balance of charity, mercy, and justice....because that's who He is. And that's more pertinent to me. rpn Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 You have to be sealed on earth in order for you to be sealed in the eternities. So you could be sealed all the way up to the final day of judgment (which occurs after the millenium), but not thereafter.
Garden Girl Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 You'll have to ask them. But I don't believe there is much, if any enmity, in the Celestial Kingdom. I agree... our perspectives will be much different. There will be nothing in the CK that is not good and acceptible to God. GG

Calm Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) There isn't anything to indicate that their sealing ordinances are somehow more or less binding than the men's Even putting it in this kind of language doesn't really make sense because when it comes to marriage sealings there is no "male" or "female" sealing since for each sealing one man and one woman is involved. How can something be less binding when it is the identical thing? Edited April 4, 2014 by calmoriah 4

Calm Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Balderdash!!!If a sealing is what it takes for a man to be there with two or more wives, surely a sealing would do the same for women with more than one husband. After all if one is going to say that a woman's sealing isn't necessarily valid at this point, then how can one claim that all those sealings of plural wives are valid at this point since we have just defined women's involvement in sealings as solely potential? PS: I am pretty sure you are just having fun taking the position of those who claim that men's sealings are somehow eternal while women's sealings are not….but I sure would like to know how that works since there is no "men's" or "women's" marriage sealings in the first place.
