Is There Polygamy In Heaven?

Recommended Posts

Sorry, monogamy is the ideal way to go.  Heaven is perfect and involves cleaving to one person and none else.  Handmaids are needed for the plan of salvation, but it is a temporary sacrifice.  I believe that the perfect eternal relationship will be monogamous.  One God, one spouse etc.

If chanting one in front of everything suggests holiness and consistency and that means something shouldn't we add in the old Chinese model and insist on one child each too?

Jesus had something interesting though to say about eternal marriage in heaven:

◾Matthew 22:29-30 says,

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven (KJV).

◾Mark 12:24-25 says,

And Jesus answering said unto them, Do you not therefore err, because ye know not, the scriptures, neither the power of God? For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven (KJV).

◾And in Luke 20:34-36 we read,

And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry and are given in marriage: But they which shall be counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die anymore: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. (KJV)

So we got 3 apostles all quoting Jesus. So is Joseph Smith more correct than Jesus with his revelation on sealings? Or is Jesus forgetting about the millennium?

Rivers yes that would be the ideal heaven to those that get into pornography and have carnal desires. I can't look at polygamy without thinking it's somewhat carnal.

Sounds like you have some personal work to do.

Polygamy will be needed in heaven, but it is not because there are more women than men, and has nothing to do with sex.

It's the "law of Sarah".  A brief study of the symbolism behind Abraham, Isaac, and Sarah should make the entire thing obvious.  ...

(Abraham was let off at the last minute and did not have to sacrifice his son... Sarah was also let off at the last minute, and did not have to rely on a handmaid... but consider the most famous handmaid of all - the virgin Mary, (which involved polygamy and polyandry btw).  It's very simple.

Jesus is the "only" begotten son - the -- "only" -- one, and he had to be born to a mortal.  In other words, perfect beings  (like Eve in Eden, and like our Heavenly Mother) do not "beget" children.  Begetting children required a transgression in Eden.  Perfect beings do not bear children.  Handmaids are needed.  That is what the scripture states is the reason - for raising up children, and that really is the reason for it.

Huh.

And If I showed you a scripture depticting God as a Polygamist then what?

I'm not God.

I did say 'at this point in time'. As I become more like God, I'm sure my opinion may change. Who knows?

Luckily, I'm not required to live that law right now.

I'm sure that simply accepting the fact that some men will have a plurality of wives will suffice. Some will whether or not you accept it.

There is no requirement that every man have more than one wife.

I'm quite happy for some men to have plural wives. Just not my husband. Thank goodness he agrees  :clapping:

When thinking about polygamy to me it brings up disturbing thoughts of celestial orgies and threesomes and is that how it would be or would polygamy be intimacy between only 2 people at a time? I know personally women who love threesomes with 1 man but the idea of that in heaven just makes me think it's a carnal doctrine and not of God.

Seriously?????  :mega_shok:

You don't seem to be considering how we will be when we are resurrected. Men will still have body parts and passions, and women will too, so husbands and wives will still be able to have sexual relations with each other then just like we/they can now. And what husbands and wives will do in private moments isn't really something we should talk about in public.

Eray what about what Jesus literally said about marriage in heaven not understanding scriptures.

A quick answer is that you need to look at who he was talking to, a group of Sadducees.   Sadducees did not believe in a resurrection and the question was a "gotcha" question.  His answer is basically telling them that according to their own interpretation of scripture there could be no marrying or giving in marriage.

Not to mention Christ was very specific in his response as to WHEN new marriages cease:

" in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage"

when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven"

" The children of this world marry and are given in marriage: But they which shall be counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die anymore: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection"

So after the final resurrection (aka final judgment) it is too late to get married if you rejected the ordinance in this life or by proxy before resurrection.

Christ NEVER said marriage ends in the resurrection, he said that resurrection is too late to decide to get married.

Exactly what D&C 132 says -

17 For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are angels of God forever and ever.

This has no bearing on those who are already married for eternity or on those who have eternal sealings performed by proxy prior to the final judgment which will be a primary work of the Millennial 1000 years.

It is a true doctrine that ALL ordinances pertaining to this earths population must be performed prior to the earth becoming Celestial (very logical if you think about it).  Once all ordinances of the Millennium and the final resurrections are complete Christ's teaching is applied and it is too late to marry or be given in marriage.

Well that's good to know. I was confused by what Jesus was saying. And Ahab I felt it necessary to talk about because I know many former LDS women who don't like the idea of the Celestial Kingdom because they think about the jealousy and pain of sharing a husband with other women for procreative purposes. Many women have fear of the way the CK will be for them. Even some LDS women are a little concerned so I wanted to address those concerns since they aren't going away and can affect someone's testimony and hope for a wonderful afterlife.

So God thinks about sex every 15 minutes like men are said to do? You seem to be forgetting that we do not believe that resurrected beings have blood. Hormones require blood. "Passions" are hormone based. Nor is insemination or child bearing possible without blood. There is no support beyond wishful thinking that is really all about the passion part. The evidence is far greater that God, which includes mother and father, create through word.

Proverbs 8 is a pretty erotic poem in which Gods female consort Wisdom delighted in his "fertility parts" daily and the two where quite passionate one to another as they created the heavens and the earth and the children of man side by side.

Was Christ's perfected body resurrected without genitalia? I know he was circumcised so he had maleness at one point in his life.

I know Joseph F Smith believed Angels and Heavenly beings where genderless. But that doesn't make it so.

The accusation that Mormonism teaches endless "celestial sex" has been a staple of anti-Mormon publications for a long time, yet the only evidence for such a teaching is speculation from over a century ago. I guess people are still speculating.

If the idea of resurrected people having passions seems like wishful thinking to you how about just considering the idea of them having feelings and desires to show love through affection, at least in regards to husbands and wives?

I know we won't have blood coursing through our veins then, and we may not even have veins anymore, but I'm totally sure that I will still love my wife and want to be affectionate with her, so there would still be something in me that would stir my emotions for her and bring us together if or when she felt the same way with her feelinga for me.

The idea of everything being strictly vocal and intellectual with no outward signs of affection between husbands and wives is an idea conjured up by deluded dim wits with no better idea of how Mommies and Daddies will continue to produce offspring when they are resurrected.

The bottom line is that you don't really know how offspring will be produced.

I do know that it will involve a lot more than a vocal command. Foreplay is very important.

Really, though, this issue isn't a mystery to me, or to my wife either. The product is a little different at the first stage of production, but what we'll be getting will still come from my wife and me... and everyone else who will then have made us what we have always been at one stage or another.

Um...ok  .

We don't even know how Mary conceived (other than through the Holy Spirit).  So, you can speculate all you want, but you simply do not know

We do know there is more than only one way for a male to inseminate a female... in vitro, test tube, the "old fashioned" way, for some examples... but we also know that, for our kind of being, it ALWAYS takes both a male and a female.

It isn't speculative when it is what we know.

Not speculative as far as how humans reproduce, but definitely speculative as to how any reproduction will take place after this life.
