I don't like how movie studios keep splitting the final book in a series into two parts. We get a movie that is all set up and then a movie that is all pay off. It makes for two mediocre movies instead of one great movie. Curse the Harry Potter franchise for starting this ridiculous trend. I will wait to rent Mocking Jay part 2. 1

Garden Girl Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Yesterday I rented "No Escape" starring Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, and Pierce Brosnan... what a suspenseful, heart pounding story... of a young executive for a national company (Wilson) who moves his family to an Asian country like Thailand to help with a big project that supposedly will benefit the population, provide jobs, etc... But many of the "people" don't want the foreign company coming in and taking over... so there is a revolution of sorts with a large faction of the population fighting the govt and other supporters...On the flight over, Wilson and his family meet a fellow passenger (Brosnan) who has travelled to the area frequently and who helps them get to their hotel etc. As they arrive at the hotel the "revolution" breaks out in earnest... what follows is the story of how Wilson tries to get his family to safety... with the help at opportune times they receive from Brosnan who is like a "CIA" type... lots of violence, but in the context of the film seems perfectly plausible. GG

I hope she'll find a better screen script for her next film! ETA: It might have been a good movie like Calm has stated about the foreign version below, too bad it wasn't the same script. Maybe that's why Julia wanted to star in it. It's just too bad the script was not as good. I knew going in it didn't do well, according to Rotten Tomatoes. It's probably one of my favorite movies. That was a pretty racy movie for the time it was made... wasn't it Irene Dunn, Norma Shearer, Rozalind Russell, Joan Crawford, etc. I forget who played the wife and who played the "other woman." My mom divorced in 1942 when I was two... a time when a divorced woman was looked down upon, as was divorce... but I'm so proud of her that she wouldn't put up with the cad that my bio dad was. Shortly thereafter the missionaries arrived on the doorstep and my mom embraced the gospel... and the rest of history... bless mom... GG 2

I was struck by how different permissible language is in movies today vs when GWTW was made... Rhett Butler's (Clark Gable) famous line to Scarlett (Vivian Leigh) as he is leaving her had to go before a watchdog committee for approval and it went back and forth until finally the line was approved.... So, as Rhett is walking out the door, a weeping Scarlett asks him... Oh Rhett, where shall I go... What shall I do? And Rhett turns to her and says... Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!! Oh the shock of it!! Including the word "damn." Those committee members judging that line would turn over in their graves if they could hear today's language in movies... I'm getting a free promotional time by Cinemax and HBO, and was hardpressed to find a movie I wanted to, or could, watch. Right now I'm in the kitchen making some things to take to the Thanksgiving pot luck at Church tomorrow... the bishopric provides all the turkeys, dressing, potatoes/gravy... and those attending bring side dishes and desserts. I'm making "tarts" that are very colorful: I bake individual pie crusts in muffin pans... then I fill them with cream cheese, and either veggies or fruit, i.e, for veggies I use ham, small carrot or celery sticks, plus small round black and green olive slices... sometimes I vary it by using a small shrimp rather than ham.For the fruit ones I use cream cheese, and add mandarin orange slices, sliced red and green grapes, sliced kiwi... they are so colorful, and good... and everyone likes them so they go right away. GG

bluebell Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I thought WWZ was really good. I loved how they managed to do a zombie movie that has some good scary moments but without hardly any blood and no gore at all. And brad pitt was surprisingly good in that role. I hope they make a sequel. 1

Deborah Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Watched "Ant Man" again on DVD. Very funny and delightful. The little girl in the movie looks and talks like my granddaughter.
