Deborah Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I loved the Ridley Scott Robin Hood... starring Russell Crowe... and of course Cate Blanchett was wonderful as Marian... I liked the way they told the story of how Robin became "Robin" and an outlaw. And how it ended saying... And the legend begins... GG Me too GG. I did like the Kevin Coster one as well because of Rickman. He was a hoot.

Have you seen Damien Lewis in tv series called "Life." It only lasted two seasons but was amazing. Humor and lots of comments about life. I have both seasons on DVD. The last episode absolutely took my breath away. 1
Garden Girl Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Yesterday I came home early from Church, staying only for Sac Mtg... have been fighting off a cold, so decided to come home and just snuggle down, nap, and watch movies. So in my film library I chose three....First... Jacob... a 1994 film starring Matthew Modine as Jacob, and Lara Flynn Boyle as Rachel. Sean Bean played Esau. It was a good film and followed the biblical story quite closely. Next I watched I'd Climb the Highest Mountain, starring William Lundigan as a country circuit rider preacher in the Georgia hill country. Susan Hayward played his "city girl" wife he meets while visiting I believe Atlanta... being from a well-to-do family, she has to learn to cook as well as what it means to be a preacher's wife... we see her as she stands by her husband's side as he watches over his congregation, sharing good times, hard times, even cruel tragedy which tests her faith. Lovely photography, beautifully written script, with characters that warmed your heart. So real you felt a part of the little mountain community. Lastly I watched Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 The Ten Commandments starring Charlton Heston as the adult Moses, Yul Brynner as Pharoah's son, Anne Baxter as Nefeteri, and Yvonne deCarlo as Zippora, Moses' Midianite wife...For the year it was made, 1956, this was an epic undertaking with thousands of extras (no computer enhancements and special effects in those days, etc) yet it has stood the test of time overall, being recognized by the Amer Film Institute as one of the "Top Ten" epics of all time. Watching this film yesterday brought back the memory of almost 60 years ago when I saw it for the first time... it was playing at Pantages Theatre in Hollywood... I joined a high school field trip that took the senior history classes by bus into Hollywood to see it... We lunched at the then-famous Clifton Cafeteria, and then to the movie. (Imagine a school using its busses, taking a field trip to a religious movie). Anyway, that was my day yesterday... and yes, hopefully I seemed to have derailed the cold... GG 1
bluebell Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) In honor of Halloween I watched to scary movies this weekend. First was the remake of Poltergeist. I admit i didn't have high hopes for this one. The original was so good, and besides that remakes are usually pretty sad anyway. If the original was worth 4 stars, i'd give 1 1/2 stars to the new one. The pacing is way off and that lost a lot of the ambiance and menace of the first movie. The whole thing is just too rushed and you really don't get a chance to care about the characters. Plus, the added use of CG affects to show the world where Caroline was taken to was wasted. It added nothing to the movie. The acting is pretty good though and it was at least entertaining. Second was Insidious 2. It actually came out a little while ago but i'd never had a chance to see it until it was on t.v. I'll say from the beginning that you have to watch the first one first or the second one will not make any sense. They pick up with the story pretty much the second the first one ended and they don't really explain much. This movie was a lot of fun. Pretty scary in parts, not gory at all (i'm not a slasher movie fan), and it incorporates a mystery that keeps you guessing. Yes, it can be a little silly in parts and not exactly rational, but that's part of the fun of scary movies anyway. GG-i love The Ten Commandments! Edited November 2, 2015 by bluebell 1

I also watch once every two years, the Best Years of our Lives with Fredric March, Radom Harvest with Ronald Coleman, State Fair with Dana Andrews, and April Love with Pat Boone. I find the older movies cleaner and more uplifting. I also watch the Trailer to the movie "Sisters Go Ye trailer 2" on Youtube; it is my unfinished movie.

Tacenda Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Watching Cleaveland Abduction on A & E, it's heartbreaking. I almost decided to not watch but glad I did. Michelle's story is incredibly sad. On her way to a hearing about her 3 yr. old son who was in foster care, stemming from her relative assaulting him, she was abducted by accepting a ride by someone she knew and thought was safe. She had been abused herself for years by someone in her household. She ran away at 13 and lived on the streets for awhile, later she got pregnant, and had her son Joey. She truly loved her little boy. She had so many bad breaks all her life. After years of hoping to see him again, it turns out the family that adopted him didn't want to let her back in his life, he was a teenager by that time. Although she has a right to take them to court because she never gave up her son in the first place, she decides to not disrupt her son's life and doesn't pursue it. Now watching a documentary about Michelle, that aired right after.

bluebell Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Saw Inside Out yesterday with my family. I thought it was adorable. I love how they show the importance of sadness, plus, even my two year old and 15 month old could barely tear themselves away. That's a pretty impressive feat for a movie that is also enjoyable for adults. On Saturday hubby and i saw Spectre. Pretty typical James Bond. Daniel craig is starting to look old, and him being in a romantic relationship with a girl who looks like she's 18 was a little gross. Also, they pull heavily from all of the Craig bond movies to create the plot for this one, so if you don't remember much from those earlier movies prepare to be confused. It was still mostly entertaining though. Hubby really liked it.

It is much more interesting to see too experienced, informed and intelligent adults duel romantically with each other. 1

I loved the scenes of the riders chasing the thoroughbred horse that was running with the mountain rummies(?), and the incredible sureness of the horses as they ran through the trees, up and down hills, particularly the one where the star rides his own mountain horse down this seriously steep mountain... GGI bought the soundtrack on cassette back when it was first released. Enjoyed the movie, the shots of the landscape and the horses going straight downhill stay in my mind, besides the music of course.
