Enjoyed both more than I expected, especially the latter, which was *extremely* more enjoyable than I had anticipated. Rivers Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) I saw the long-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens! I must admit that I have mixed feelings about it. It was certainly a fun movie with a lot of great moments. I enjoyed the new cast members as well as seeing the original stars return. The tone and style of the movie was very different from the prequels and hearkened back to the original three films. J.J. Abrams did a fantastic job. However, I was left wanting more than what I was given. I know that it is the first in a new trilogy and a lot is set up for the later films, but I believe individual movies need to be able to stand on their own. Edited December 19, 2015 by Rivers 1

Storm Rider Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Just saw the new Star Wars movie - left the cinema very unimpressed and could not understand why there is so much hype about a movie that offers nothing new. The writers of for these scripts have got to be some of the laziest people around. We are talking zero original ideas. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this film a 4. Nice to see, but gads it is just not worth paying $13 for....seeing a re-run of what has already been done twice already in the same series of films. It will be a cold day before I ever pay to see any more of this series in the theater.

If I remember right JRT seated about 120 in a room, provo 98. When timp opened it likely beat the other two in live sealings.

Legends had the crazy Mormon FBI agent who slept with a prostitute on his mission Showed him praying in his garments when he was older. He ended up sleeping with the married agent and committing suicide. And then there is the futuristic Expanse in which the LDS church is having someone build them a giant spaceship to send the people out to colonize.

I've heard of a couple of these TV shows, but Expanse is a new one on me. I'll have to check it out, but not really much of a TV watcher other than a couple of reality shows. Maybe it's because of the new policy, or the Prop 8 in the past. I'm not sure, pretty bad light though.

I think that a large portion of Hollywood is happy when people who claim high standards fail at living up to them.

The abysmal love story in that one puts it at the bottom of the list for me. That and Hayden Christiansen's performance. I would say he improved a little bit in Episode 3.

Deborah Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Re-watched the original Star Wars trilogy before going to see the new one Monday. People seem to love or hate the movie. My son hated it my 7 year old granddaughter loved it. Also re-watched both seasons of "Life" again. Love that show. Too bad it didn't continue thought he did solve the mystery of his framing.

Before this weekend, the last movie I saw was Inception (working on improving my lucid dreaming skills and I had heard a lot about it; Christopher Nolan is also a lucid dreamer so I thought it would be interesting). This weekend I took my sister's to see the new Star Wars. I left the theater pretty much feeling the same way. Dissatisfied. It might be I read too much long form and epic science-fiction/space opera, but whatever the cause—eh. Problem is, I will probably go see the rest. One must know how this part of the story ends after all.
Calm Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I just realized I haven't been able to lucid dream since I started taking melatonin. Blast it! Oh well, I would rather sleep almost every night if that is the option. Saw the Star Wars film, no anxiety which could only come from feeling I knew the story inside and out, so yeah I wouldn't say there were new ideas in it, but it did feel like there was enough variation in how the ideas were presented that it didn't feel all the time like I was watching a repeat. It makes sense to me that this is a continuing story since so much that happens in our lives is a repeat of what has happened before so I don't begrudge them the retread version. There were times though I started squirming because there was too much hearkening back and it felt...I don't know...condescending, maybe? Though I assume it was the opposite and they were just having fun walking down memory lane and sharing the fun with the audience. Loved the visual part of it. Some beautiful settings I would love to walk in. One little tidbit I heard about shortly after watching it that made it more fun is that the Stormtrooper that gets Jedied is Daniel Craig (hope that is not too much of a spoiler). Look for his name in the credits with his character's name, JB-007. Love that level of snideness. He originally denied it when Simon Pegg (who played the scavenger-portion dealer/pawn shop owner/whatever iirc) unintentionally leaked it, but the info has now been officially released. I don't like links that show a bunch of almost naked bodies, so if you want more info find a link yourself.

I've been watching the entire series this last week and have noticed how any times they say "I have a bad feeling about this." It's in every movie, including this new one. Given the danger they put themselves in is it any wonder.
