bluebell Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 Saw Jurassic World last night and echo what was already said. It was entertaining (movie lasted 2 hours but did not feel like it) and the main actors were good. There were also some funny parts, which is always fun in a disaster movie. But there really is no plot. If you've seen the trailers you've pretty much seen everything that happens in the movie and you know exactly what's going to happen. There are some fun throwback moments to the other films, but it kind of just makes you miss the first movie and mourn that this one just does not measure up.

It had a moment at the end that got me, children singing "Heavenly Father Are You Really There?", I think that's the title. Most everything was factually true, I did notice in the church in one scene, it had posted on the bulletin board a Bible study announcement. It was definitely an LDS chapel, most of the town was LDS at the time. T.C. wasn't out to make an LDS movie but an inspirational movie. It just made me smile. Because we don't really have what you would call Bible study groups that meet. In the movie, at the very end, the character the movie features and is true, is one of the school children's father. Throughout the movie, he's a deputy btw, he's dealing with a crisis of faith with a belief in God after witnessing so much in his line of work, I'm guessing. He quits praying and attending church. But after the bombing, he decides to go back to church. During SS, he's out in the hall and is drawn to the Primary room because of the children singing this song. That's when I lost it. Sorry if I gave too much away. Glad you're doing better Rain, this movie inspired me a lot.
Duncan Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 I don't understand why they are carrying on with Jurassic Park 4, what's next Jurassic Park:Christmas Vacation? or Jurassic Park go to Paris? or that Pirates of the Carribean , the first 2 were allright but I mean give me a break with the 3rd and I heard another one is coming out, what more needs to be done?! 3

So as long as we keep buying tickets to sequels, they will keep on making them. 1

The list of actors is impressive and so I'll just include the wiki link for that. The jurors are all gone now, with Jack Klugman being the last to pass away 2 1/2 years ago. I really enjoyed Jurassic World. I thought it the best of the series. Lots of excitement and likeable characters. A look at what came next.

Garden Girl Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I rented "McFarland" based on a true story starring Kevin Costner... who played a coach who was fired from a toney school for his treatment of some of the athletes... he ends up at McFarland, an area and high school in the central valley of Calif (near Fresno) with a large Hispanic population, mainly children of migrant and/or local workers who work in the fields of the various farms. The parents have been "pickers" for several generations, and the kids work in the fields with them before and after school, etc. Costner notices during P.E. that several of them have the ability to run fast... and he forms a cross country team. The 7 boys on the team train under his direction and eventually compete in a competition... they struggle to keep training and particpating in between their work in the fields... it's quite a remarkable story and gives insight into the lives of the 'pickers" and their families. We go into the super market and buy produce without a thought as to where it comes from or who picks it... good movie... GG 2

There was a lot for adults to appreciate whole still being kid friendly. That's the genius of these movies. The movie was smart and had a lot of layers to it. It strangley reminded me of Inception. And being a movie about emotions, it had some very emotional moments. I am glad that theaters are dark because at one point near the end of the movie I where totally lost it and started bawling. Garden Girl Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I rented "Woman in Gold" starring Helen Mirren... such a story about this Jewish woman who challenges and sues Austria for ownership of a now famous painting of her aunt that was hanging in Austria's largest museum, but used to hang in their home before being stolen by the Nazis during WWII and most of her family sent to interrment camps (her grandfather had taken her immediate family and escaped Warsaw just before the Nazis because he could see what was going to happen). Mirren is a wonderful actress... and the story of course is heart wrenching... GG

My husband and I really didn't know a thing about this movie going in. And it was the ultimate surprise! Much like the movie "The Imitation Game", huge surprise! Loved it as well!
Garden Girl Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Delightful story titled: "Five Flights Up" starring Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton as an interracial couple who have been married and lived in the same apartment (which they own) in Brooklyn for 40 years... they decide to sell their sought-after apartment, cashing in on its current worth (1 Million), and move into Manhattan...They have a whirlwind weekend with open houses, househunting, offers/counter offers, pet at vet's, a test of their unwavering love... an absolutely warm, charming, poignant story... (no crashing cars, no special visual effects, only a couple words of profanity... just a story of two people who have faced and lived life... cherishing things that really "matter." from the beach on a lovely, sunny day, with that Chinook breeze that makes me wistful as I sense the end of summer fast approaching what with August on the brink... GG
Rivers Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 I saw Ant Man today. It's a fun movie. Except I am not sure if I would have gone to see it in the theater if it wasn't part of the marvel universe.
