Some joker decided to share a recipe for cleansing the air around you and gave the recipe for homemade mustard gas. Like it could literally kill you to do what this person said.

Weird times.

Read an article about gunshot wounds having to wait at the hospital behind people who overdosed on livestock medication. I think that sentence sums up America at the moment. Talked to one of my friends who lives overseas and he says it is strange. The US has been many things on the world stage. It has been hated, admired, fought against, used as a positive and negative example, seen as a hegemonic superpower for good or ill, and all kinds of other things. This is the first time he says that America has just been laughed at and pitied for our idiocy.

Last night, I ended up on the Facebook page for a very new-agey Christian group that recently held a multiday revival/conference in Ohio. The newest post was informing people that one of their main presenters had been sick with COVID since returning from the conference and asking for people's prayers. Then there were 40-50 comments all offering up various 'remedies'. One of them was inhaling hydrogen peroxide. Several people offered sources for obtaining Ivermectin (including mail-ordering it from India). One very helpful fellow claimed that he had cured himself of COVID by boiling lemon and grapefruit peels in water and drinking that. Some people recommended neem tree oil (which I had never heard of before) and olive leaves. According to Wikipedia, the former 'may harm the kidneys or liver; in small children, neem oil is toxic and can lead to death. Neem may also cause miscarriages, infertility, and low blood sugar'.

Whilst there was clearly a bias against 'pharmaceuticals' in general, the main push seemed to be anything that wasn't recommended by the 'system' -- because that's, well, worldly, and Christians who forage for foodstuffs in local forests and distil their own essential oils and weave their own linen must somehow stand outside the world in every way.

I admit, I read every single comment with some fascination and clicked on not a few posters' profiles. It was like a trip through the looking-glass for me. One of the foraging linen-wearers has written a book about growing up in a demonic cult where he was forced to kill people from early childhood until he escaped. Another had a video explaining that aliens are actually the offspring of angels and humans referenced in the Old Testament. Quite a few are flat-earthers. Nearly everyone, it appears, eats 'organic'.

ETA: I couldn't resist the temptation just now to have a quick look at the abovementioned Facebook page again. Here's the latest post on their dying friend:

I can second that.

I can vouch for this. In my own family and extended family I'm seeing the nuttiness of it all. My own daughter's birthday was in August and I asked what I could get her..she said all she needs is food storage because things are coming down or something terrible is going to happen around the corner, she insinuated. In my mind I think she's thinking civil war or something. 

And then yesterday on FB my nephews and my own brother had a conversation that the plane that many of the Afghan's were holding on to to be able to fly out of there but instead some fell to their deaths...wasn't real it was a mock up or my nephew said it was a "balloon", never heard of that, so a fake video. And the three of them mock masks and the vaccine a long with my daughter, and all my kids but one. This is the craziest thing I've ever seen in my life. It feels like I'm living in an alternate world. 

Watching my ward's zoom right now, and my bishop read the letter thank goodness, and one man is testifying that he finally decided to get the vaccine only because his prophet said to get one, where he'd not wanted to before but that he would sustain his leaders.

Sample size is low but there is irony in people avoiding a vaccine that purportedly weakens fertility (but doesn’t) is being replaced by anti-parasite medication that probably does impact fertility.

More and more I wonder if I had it.  

I get congested probably 90% of my nights and have done this for decades. In the morning I cough a LOT till it clears out.  

So about 3 months ago when covid numbers were low when I started coughing harder I didn't think much of it.  It wasn't so far out of normal.  Awhile later I started to get a runny nose.  So I stayed home for a couple of weeks.  

But the cough got worse. Much worse. Sometimes shooting pain down my limbs  My throat got scratchy.  I was tired (but I wasn't getting sleep due to the coughing).  

Saw my doctor through video and she prescribed antibiotics and tested me for valley fever and pertussis (my husband had it twice in the last 1.5 years). They didn't touch the cough.

Started getting petechiae on my wrists.

She tested me for a bunch of other things. She gave me albuterol, but it didn't do anything for me. She finally put me on a heavy dose of prednisone which skyrocketed my blood sugar, but gradually cleared the cough.  

Meanwhile my kidney functions really dropped (I get tested every 3 months so we could see the drop).  And my heart rate has gone up.  When I finally got in to see the doctors before she gave the prednisone I had a heart rate of 126 just sitting there! So then they checked for blood clots etc.

Since the prednisone I have been getting better. Heart rate is slowly going down.  Kidney functions are at my normal.  Morning cough is back to normal or even better than normal.  Blood sugar stabilized.  

If it was covid I'm glad I had the vaccine. Even though generally I didn't feel very sick what I saw was enough to show me I probably wouldn't have done well without the vaccine.

The way my immune system reacted to a handful of spike proteins in the AstraZeneca vaccine (fever so high I was delusional, pain in every muscle and joint, and a headache that literally hurt in a way I've never felt before) was enough for me. Imagine if billions of the little buggers had been multiplying in my airways and attacking my lungs at the same time!

No, because early on I didn't realize it was anything more than my normal stuff.  The cough got more strong, but no other symptoms.  The runny nose didn't start for about 2 weeks and I figured it wouldn't show anything then.  I was thinking by then you would see antibodies, but being already vaccinated I wasn't sure if you could tell a difference.

I did expect my PA to check for covid when she checked for the valley fever and pertussis, but she didn't.

Son #4 seems to have lost his sense of smell today. He's been ~mildly sick for a while but not with typical Covid symptoms. He had 2 neg PCR tests (as did I). Our workplace emptied out after employees tested positive, 2 weeks ago.

I know one (possibly 3) people w/ multiple neg PCR tests - and pos molecular OTC tests. They checked all the Covid boxes.

Given all this I've developed some mistrust of PCR tests. Not sure what to do about that.

Thanks for sharing. This is all very interesting to me. I can't even book a visit to a clinic until I have answered the following question:
