Duncan Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 There is a video floating around, looks like it was made by the Church about "More to Come", do you think there is still more to come? I assume changes or adjustments?

If you don’t grasp the distinction (or relationship) between the Church and the Church News, I can explain it to you). 2

As I have posted a number of times before: Quote Elder Bednar was here for a priesthood training meeting a bit over three [now five] years ago. He told us that if we were too attached to the Church [culture] as it now looks, we were in trouble. The emerging Church, he said, will be unrecognisable to us, so we'd better be converted to the Lord, not current Church culture. I don't remember the exact words after that, but they were something along the lines of the Lord having only just finished laying the foundation of the Restoration. ETA that I actually found myself quoting what I had written down closer in time: Quote I've mentioned on this forum about half a dozen times or so how Elder Bednar visited us four or five [now five or six] years ago and told us that massive changes were coming that would leave the Church unrecognisable in culture and structure ... Edit: I'm at work and don't have my notes in front of me, so I found a post from when I did: We were told that 'the Lord is constructing a Church that will be able to fulfil its divine global mandate and that it would be "unrecognisable" in everything but doctrine before He's finished'. He also told us that the Lord had just finished laying the foundation of the Restoration, and that it was time to build the proper structure on top. He also mentioned his fear that it would be American Saints who would most struggle with coming changes since many of them are more attached to the culture than to the doctrine. I mean who knows what they were planning for this past general conference and was curtailed due to the obvious but one wonders!

Well, since the Church is still recognisable to me culturally and still hasn't fulfilled its divine global mandate, I think there is far, far more yet to come. 3

We are surrounded by them every moment of every day and nothing is said about what they do other than generic references. It was taught extensively during the first 100 years of the Church, but it has faded out to nothing now. Everything is all non-threatening and sugar-coated.

Must be strange to think of someone 80 years old as "immature" but I can imagine it.

When he said that, it reminded me of my dad and a few of my older relatives, they'd call old or young "kids" like that. I thought it sweet that he wanted to stay and just hold the little guy and snuggle. He was very down to earth and I like that. Even in his recent GC talks I felt like he was more down to earth and level headed.

Direct confrontations are very rare and a fascination with those encounters is usually not healthy. 1

If bearing ones testimony of the reality of the Savior brings the Savior closer, then bearing one's testimony of the reality of Satan, ... One should be able to figure that out. If one feels surrounded by evil spirits, perhaps it is because they're not looking for Angels. Perhaps. 1

Yeah, maybe I am jaded but I have known too many people borderline obsessed with how unclean spirits operate as if this knowledge will let them form some brilliant strategy for outwitting them or something or that there is some hidden technique that will stymie their influence. Interject with talk about angels and the Holy Ghost and they quickly grow bored and almost patronizing about the topic as if it is a childish belief to believe the forces of light are actively involved in this conflict. 4

I have to give the caveat that each week, directors of Church Correlation Review scrutinized and had the right of prior approval over every word of content we produced. I’m sure this is still the case, though I’ve been out of the loop for going on two years now. I presume this holds true for videos, although they never produced such a thing while I was there. I say the Deseret News runs it, because that is true. The editors and staff of the Church News are answerable to the Deseret News editorial management. Since its beginning in 1931, the Church News has always been a supplement to the Deseret News. 2

This is a myth - false tradition. We are surrounded by evil spirits at all times and they are watching us constantly. This was a constant theme that was taught for the first 110 years of the Church. Simply because it is not emphasized now does not change that truth. There were many official Sunday school lessons for all ages approved by the Brethren, including for young children, that taught about possession and the abilities of evil spirits.
