Alexander Findlay MacDonald was an important pioneer in the Mexico LDS Colonies. He became the patriarch of this entire area and blessed and married many of the folks here. He also owned a piece of property known in those days as MacDonald Springs Canyon. It is northwest of Colonia Juarez and is little known or noticed these days. It was to this site in late July, 1912 that Stake President Junius Romney went to pray to seek God's guidance. The colonists were getting overwhelmed with the proximity and challenges of the Mexican revolution. The women and children had already left for El Paso and young President Junius Romney needed to seek God's direction as to whether or not the men should leave as well. He had sought guidance from the leadership in SLC, but in the end he knew it would be his decision. He spent all night praying for God to reveal to him what to do. Early the next morning he heard the voice of God advising him that the men should leave. That morning he issued the orders and the final phase of the famous Mexican Mormon Exodus of 1912 reached its conclusion. Thousands responded to the direction from their stake president and colony history was changed forever. So was Junius Romney. It would be fifty years before he spoke publicly of that night. Why did I post this photo? Because I believe we all have in common the ability to trust God to provide us direction in our lives. Most of us will never be called upon to make such a momentous decision as did Junius that night next to Patriarch MacDonald's cattle pen and spring. But all of us have access to, and assurance of faith that God will answer our prayers and provide us direction in our lives for the decisions we are called upon to make. LDS Christian or not, God is there for us, showing us the path. In our scriptures he has outlined the path. In our day to day lives we can choose whether or not to walk down that path, and we can know with assurance that when we can't see where the path leads, He will give us the light if we will simply follow it. Meadowchik Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 This Christmas morning was a sweet one among many a year of more chaotic ones: we now have five teens plus the two youngest, including two young adults. As with past years, we started off taking turns opening one gift at a time so we could all watch the recipient's reaction. But one round extended by consensus to two and then to three, the kids genuinely enjoying it. And I kept waiting for impatience that never appeared. It was a little thing but a joyful little thing! 1

It was taken at the Park Ave. trailhead at Arches National Park by Moab UT. It’s one of my favorite trails there. 3

This reminds me of the movie The Planet of the Apes (Charleton Heston version.) One of our sons is absolutely fascinated with the story and we've been watching all the versions during the holidays. 2

My oldest son is named after the evil monkey general in the 2000 remake with Mark Walberg. Not a fan of the movies but loved the name.

The opening scenes of that movie were filmed at Lake Powell (Utah / Arizona border) and in northern Arizona, and my family used to go to Lake Powell quite a bit when I was a teenager, and every time I went it reminded me of the movie. It's probably one of the reasons I still love that part of Arizona and Utah (yeah, I'm weird ):
