MustardSeed Posted July 30 Posted July 30 IMG_4855.mov For some reason I had never heard of the 1960s band The Cowsills. But this weekend, they were flown in for an event I attended in the San Juans of WA state. There’s a documentary apparently on Netflix about them. They were great and very friendly- 2
Chum Posted August 1 Posted August 1 In celebration of Thursday, I'd like to present the finest Iberian, spaghetti western band you will ever see: Arizona Baby. 2
MustardSeed Posted September 9 Posted September 9 This is my very favorite Paul McCartney song. Very side B, but for some reason I was familiar with it at age 11. Forgot all about it til yesterday when it played on my Apple Music feed. I’ve been floating ever since ❤️ 1

Pretty impressive. Love the instruments…the lyrics, don’t really like the genre, but got to say I love the voice. Quite interesting. Would love to hear him sing a variety and something less repetitive. But I could listen to it without singing for hours probably. 1

Calm Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) I remember hearing it on the radio, but I might have borrowed a tape from the library (too college student poor back then to actually buy music). I liked Wings, so I would have paid attention. Been forever since I heard it. Just added it to my playlist, thanks! I heard it enough that the opening lyrics stuck in my head, but especially that little melody right at the beginning…and the part of “could have been a finer thing” and “counted to zero”. But I don’t remember the album cover, so my guess is it was the radio. Maybe I lucked out with a DJ who liked Wings. I would ask my husband as we were dating at the time but he doesn’t have a memory for such things. Edited September 9 by Calm 1
Calm Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Wiki has it as relatively popular if I understand the rating correctly… Quote It was the A-side of the second US single released from Back to the Egg and peaked at number 29. The B-side was "Old Siam, Sir", which was the A-side of the first UK single. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow_Through_Me I also saw the movie it was used for, Oh, Heavenly Dog.

Cool! I think it sticks out to me because it was released during my coming of age. They say that songs that were big when you were 11 and 12 tend to be pretty impactful. I really love the complexity of the chord progression. And same brain! I love that line “ if youd have started at nothing and counted to zero” Edited September 9 by MustardSeed 1

I think you were in the Puget Sound area at some time? Western Washington Festival of some kind...Opened with a new version of Jefferson Air/Star plane with Paul Kantner...I dunno...maybe before this century? But the Moodys were there...and us. Maybe you too? They were strong still. John Lodge still had his voice. Later...George, WA. In the Gorge. I thought I was old. The little ones who have lots of kids now were still being babysat. We were still young. Great venue, George, no mosquitoes on a late summer evening. Lisa...my good lady...saw Justin in some saloon in Portland, late 90's, or 2000's. I couldn't go. Finally we went with Fr. _____, to the Old Paramount...I forget what what they call it now...Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall? Good fun...but John's voice was shot. Our flute player...I am ashamed...I can't remember his name...I can picture him so well...Thomas...I have to cheat. Be right back...Good Ray Thomas! May he rest in peace... 1

I never saw them live, unfortunately. I lived in Olympia, Washington for something like 35 years, but never made it to the Gorge. In fact, with a couple of exceptions I never went to live concerts. Saw The Carpenters at The Hollywood Bowl in 1975.

Prince was born and raised in Minneapolis. My family lived in the Olympia School District, so North Thurston High School was the enemy! 4 hours ago, MustardSeed said: Im jealous you saw the Carpenters 🥹 They were very good! But their opening act was the one I remember best, for some reason. It was Gilbert O'Sullivan, of Alone Again (Naturally) fame. I think his career was starting to taper off at that point, so opening for the Carpenters may have been part of an attempt to reach more people. 1

No, we arrived in Olympia in 1985, and I was 34 years old at the time. My children weren't yet old enough to attend Oly. None of them ever ended up in the band, though my daughter was on the dance team for one year.

My dad was the band teacher at elementary middle and high school at oly in the 70s and 80s. People either loved him or hated him.😂 1
