No, if anything he is a radical who believes we need to kill everyone holding us back from a perfect society by burning the whole world and everyone he judges wicked and then seizing absolute power for Himself. :vader:

He is a little of each while also being moderate in just the right ways, and people would do well to follow His example. Seriously, people really need to get over the idea that they have to pick a label of being either liberal or conservative. Nothing says you must pick such a label.

But if I don't pick a side how will I know whether I should join Shiz or Coriantumr at the last battle? Answer me that smart guy! ;)

"My kingdom is not of this world."

What political kingdom are you speaking of?

The Kingdom of God. IE, the eschaton, where God rights all injustice in the world. A political kingdom where God finally enters history and brings justice to human affairs.

Funny, I read this today, from Richard Rohr.

"Precisely because Jesus was a “conservative,” in the true sense of the term, he conserved what was worth conserving and did not let accidentals get in the way, which are the very things false conservatives usually idolize. As a result, he looked quite “progressive,” radical, and even dangerous." Full article here

I don't have 'liberal' and 'conservative' categories in my worldview, so.

The words "liberal" and "conservative" don't seem to mean what they used to mean.  Well, "liberal" doesn't, anyway.  At least in terms of what used to be the defining attribute, namely "tolerance" of opposing viewpoints.

I predict this thread won't last the day because some participants will start to argue their political viewpoints and the whole thing will come crashing down.

I'm surprised it's lasted this long.

Huh. Never figured you for a fundamentalist.

Not a fundamentalist. That's simply what Jesus believed and preached.

I believe he was one of those rare types who honored truth - and truth often puts you on any given side of the political and social spectrum depending on the situation.

Did they?  I thought that communism was atheistic, and also all about the overthrow of the state to the benefit of the proletariat?

Communism is the collective ownership of property without title or claim.  Marxism preaches atheism and control by the proletariat.  Marxism and communism are not the same.  Communism existed, as a term and idea, long before Marx.  See Robert Owens (term),  and to some extent Thomas More's Utopia (idea; communal living).

I was wrong.  I tip my cap to the self-discipline!

It really depends on the point of view:

For the Pharisee's and Sadducee's he was very liberal - in fact he was a radical who was out to completely change the power structure.

To God he was a Conservative, trying to return Israel to their chosen people status -- kind of a MIGA (Make Israel Great Again)

Since he really bucked the status quo of his day I would say liberal. But for his day.

Politically Jesus wasn’t anything since His kingdom was not of this world.  But if Jesus lived today I think culturally he would fall right into the middle and strongly oppose both the far right and the far left.

Except He didn't take any manna out of anybody else's pot to put in Jacob's children's pots.  And He didn't just promise, relying on the compulsory contributions of anybody else to fulfill that promise, but rather delivered in full out of His own generosity.

And He made free water into free wine, simply because it was asked of him; He ennobled a farthing joyously and voluntarily given making it worth more than a kingdom; He brought a surfeit of fish to no-luck fishermen, and not by emptying anybody else's nets; and He multiplied a couple of fish sandwiches to feed thousands, and not by raiding anybody else's lunchboxes.  Doesn't look like the New Deal to me.

So He was a veritable conservoliberomoderal. :) I meant "New Deal" to be a play on "New Testament"

This assumes that conservatives can't/don't buck the status quo.  Just look at trump, he is definitely not status quo.

I think it depends on the issue.  In some ways his views would be seen as extreme left and others would be viewed as extreme right.  I think what would bother him is the political antics of the far left and right but might agree with them on certain issues.

Since the US Founding Fathers were inspired of God to frame our constitution, and the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution is the foudation of conservatism, I say he is conservative.

How do you get "conservative" out of all of this?  Thomas Jefferson considered himself a radical progressive.

I realize that modern-day conservatives love to carry around and trumpet the constitution, but that doesn't make the constitution the foundation of modern conservatism as conservatism applies to other countries as well.

A conservative is a person who does not want change and wants to hold on to his guns and wealth to oppress and threaten the poor.  A conservative opposes abortion because he or she thinks it is Biblical murder.  A liberal is one who wants change to confiscate (i.e., legal stealing) wealth from the rich.  A liberal favors abortion as a means to engage in genocide against the poor minorities.

I don't know what Jesus Christ was, but Joseph Smith was a libertarian.  Freedom of religion, economic freedom and other freedoms like that.

The reason for the term “libritarian” is because modern conservatism is not true conservatism.  Conservatism is about conserving individual and personal rights above all else. That is what the D of I is all about, and the constitution is how to implement a republic dedecated to conserving individual rights and liberty. A republic, because it is rule of law not rule of man, or rule of mob as in the case of democracy.

That is how I get that. You might want to reas E. T. Benson’s “The proper role of government” if you have not yet gotten it.
