smac97 Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 This: Quote ‘IT’S A HUMAN RIGHT’: MEXICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ON MASS EXODUS TO AMERICA5:45 PM 06/22/2018 Dominic Mancini | Reporter Mexican presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) called for mass immigration to the United States during a speech Tuesday declaring it a “human right” for all North Americans. “And soon, very soon — after the victory of our movement — we will defend all the migrants in the American continent and all the migrants in the world,” Obrador said, adding that immigrants “must leave their towns and find a life in the United States.” He then declared it as “a human right we will defend,” eluniversal.com reports. While the election is not until July 1, Obrador is by far the frontrunner. I have been trying to sort out how I feel about illegal immigration. I have respected the LDS Church's statements and guidance about this. We need to remember these are our brothers and sisters. They are human beings. But we also need to preserve our sovereignty and cohesion as a nation. And we also need to be concerned about the safety of unregulated cross-border migration, both because of sovereignty issues and also given the horrific accounts we keep hearing about it. Now we have the likely next president of Mexico openly encouraging his own citizens to leave their country and "find a life in the United States." This will not end well. Any thoughts from a moral/religious perspective on how to respond to things like the news item above? Thanks, -Smac 1

Lopez did not say that. He said that he would defend immigrants against racism and injustice. And he never said immigrants must leave their towns. He said he would defend the rights of people who are forced (por necesidad) to leave their towns and find a life in the US. I’m not familiar with the Daily Caller, but I am not impressed with this blatantly dishonest reporting. 7
Anijen Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I wish there was a way to let all those in, those who need work and a better quality of life in, but with a solution to keeping criminals and terrorists out. I have no clue what a good solution could be. I would also like to see those who come in adopt American values without coming and and trying to change laws to those resembling the laws of a country they are fleeing from. What I mean is, I would like to see those try and voluntarily assimilate some American values and less of trying to bring in Sharia law which is not compatible with the Constitution. 1

Thanks, -Smac The Church's statement recognizes the right of sovereign nations to secure their borders. It only calls for children not to be separated from their parents and for the nation's leaders to find ways to avoid that. So far, the Trump Administration seems to be moving toward that goal. Congress, not so much. Ergo, nothing the Church has said binds me as a faithful and believing member to refrain from opposing illegal immigration or what this guy is calling for. It does not bind me to favoring open borders, which is what the Democrats seem to want. If they see the need to immigrate, I want my brothers and sisters to observe the legal means to do so. Quote Fox’s Tucker Carlson noted Thursday that Obrador has previously proposed granting amnesty to Mexican drug cartels. “America is now Mexico’s social safety net, and that’s a very good deal for the Mexican ruling class,” Carlson added. Does he really favor amnesty for drug cartels? I noticed that Nancy Polosi and other Democratic leaders and biased news media were all-too-quick to rise to the defense of the brutal and vicious MS 13 gang when Trump spoke of deporting its members. We are also taught to do to all things in wisdom and order. We are also taught to feed the hunger, clothr the naked, and provide shelter for the homeless..... I would say the AMOL is not anywhere near moral high ground on the issue. Someone por necesidad from their home is someone whose Leaders have failed. So if AMOL is in office or was the President of Country, and people are por necesidad from their homes, AMOL has neglected his duties. 1

We could pull a Mexico and provide the pathway north right into Canada via caravans. etc. Hwy 5 is made to order for that... We'll see how long Canada would put up with that... and, just try entering Mexico illegally. Mexico has really strict laws against illegal entry but somehow feel free to demand that we take in thousands of illegals without any consequences... I can't go further as it would be too political and jeopardize a thread shut-down. I can't get over the fact that these people somehow believe they are entitled to pour over our borders (50,000 people each month for the past few months). I'm fully supportive of legal immigration... and believe we do need to improve our process so it doesn't take as long, etc. GG 2
Calm Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 “these people somehow believe they are entitled to pour over our borders” I suspect many of them don’t feel entitled to anything, but just feel desperate. 3
strappinglad Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Blatant dishonesty is not unusual in the media. We have the latest Time magazine cover and related photos and videos of the crying child. You would think that with 2000 children who were actually separated from the adults they came with, there could have been at least one legitimate photo of one of them, but no. We got a pic of a child who wasn't separated from the mother, who ...well, I leave it alone from there. 4
