I can't discuss this with you Calm because I don't want to be at odds with you in the slightest... and, as a former So Californian I've seen through the years how deep and hot this issue is... my hope and prayer is that resolution to the issues can be soon with compassion and compromise from both sides.

When I served in Central America, there were very strict rules on our being allowed to stay in the various countries. They were quite serious about us being in their countries. In Honduras, we actually had to leave the country through a border crossing, renter with approval, reregister as aliens with correct contact information, and get our visas restamped on a regular basis. They didn’t mess around at the borders, and sometimes we had to pay an “honorarium” to get the stamp. We learned that the only sane thing to say to a border guard was, “Si’, señor.” Having crossed the US/Canadian border many times, the same two words apply there, but I think an offer of an “honorarium” would not get the same results.

Sadly, given the strong emotional responses and political j acrimony it is causing I don’t see how this illegal immigration  issue can ever be resolved.
